Fab Freebie: The (Not) Wedding Week

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

Thanks to random.org’s very arbitrary matchmaking skills, our winner is… Lawren (whose favorite wedding moment was when her cousin’s pocketed dress stored tissues to hand the groom when he teared up during the vows). Congrats!

Hope everyone’s having an awesome Fourth of July. We’re enjoying some family time but wanted to drop in with this week’s giveaway, so here ya go. Thursday marks our 4th wedding anniversary, which typically would make this “Wedding Week” around here. But since there’s not much left of that dead horse to beat (we’ve already shared every last detail about our wedding, honeymoon, traditions, how we met, how we got engaged, and our favorite meaningful momentos), we’re gonna go light on the theme this time around. Don’t get me wrong, the last year has been awesome and we’re planning something sweet to celebrate the beginning of year five (nothing big, but we’ll share whatever we end up doing). Feel free to take a trip down memory lane by checking out a recap of our $4,000 DIY backyard ceremony or browsing old Wedding Week posts from the last three years if you’re feeling sentimental though.

NotWedding Four Years

And since this turned into sort of a “Not” Wedding Week, we figured it was the perfect time to do a giveaway with The Not Wedding. They’re a self-described “killer alternative to a bridal show” where you attend a mock ceremony, sit down dinner, and dance-filled reception all in the name of having fun and checking out vendors. Basically you get to experience music, food, cake (mmmm cake) and other wedding must haves in a real-ish wedding setting. This year’s “big day” is on July 21st and two tickets (which include dinner, drinks, and dessert) are up for grabs this week.

NotWedding Main Pic

But knowing that not everyone can get to Georgia on two weeks notice, The Not Wedding is also hooking the winner up with a $150 gift card to their registry sponsor Bloomingdale’s. Plus, you’ll win a pearl bridal bracelet and hair flower fascinator (in white or ivory) from their accessory sponsor (Fine & Fleurie). Which adds up to over $300 of wedding-tastic swag. Or should I say not wedding-tastic swag? Hmm. Either way… score.

NotWedding Bloom Fine

  • PRIZE: Two tickets to The Not Wedding, a $150 Bloomingdales gift card, plus a bracelet & hair flower from Fine & Fleurie
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “NOT ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us your favorite part about a wedding that was NOT yours. Did a particular family member have an especially touching ceremony? Did your best friend cry or laugh at your killer toast? Maybe your college friend simultaneously had you drooling over her location, dress, and decor? Or – be honest – is it just the time your work friend had an awesome open bar?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 6th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: Anywhere in the world!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perked to host this giveaway, we just like rewarding our lovely readers. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from The Not Wedding, Bloomingdales and Fine & Fleurie.

Not me! I love weddings, but one of my favorites was my best friend’s wedding. It was full of family and friends and you could feel the love and support coming from everyone and everyone had a wonderful time and still talks about it 6 years later.

My favorite thing about weddings is seeing how things get coordinated and everything works out in the end. There are so many people working together to make a wedding a special event for the newly-wedded couple, and I love that! There’s such an awesome vibe…at most weddings I’ve attended.

My favorite part of my friend’s wedding a few years ago was that they got married in the rain on the edge of a lake. We waited all day for it to stop raining but it never did so they just went for it! I thought it actually made the ceremony more romantic.

best friend’s wedding…the party was kicking and everyone was having a blast. But it was about to end so her dad went up to the event manager and on the spot extended it for another hour and a half. It was an amazing time!

When my sister got married, it was the first time our family had had a reason to celebrate since the deaths of both of my grandparents the previous year. While that may have been bittersweet, it was great to spend some good times together.

NOT ME!! My sister’s getaway car was pretty amazing! Her fiance, then, husband now, totally revamped an MG into an amazing car that they used for photos and to leave the wedding. Her pictures are stunning! If you’re interested in seeing some, check it out here: http://sherrilynnpuz.blogspot.com/2011/04/bringing-home-baby.html

NOT ME! My college roommate is a Brazilian from Rio so she had her wedding there. The wedding itself was great since it’s cool to see how things are done in other cultures (and she saved money on flowers and decorations by splitting them with the other bride using the same church that day — her wedding planner!). I split a room with another college friend (each of us only paid $30 a night to stay a block from the ocean, view included) and had a great time that week at the beach and seeing the sights.

I gave the speech at my best friend’s wedding and very unintentionally had everyone in tears. Even the photographer was crying! It was a really special moment to share with her guests how special our friendship has been.

One wedding tidbit that has always been especially sweet to me was when my favorite highschool teacher told me she and her husband always hold hands when they attend the weddings of others and in their heart repeat their vows to one another. That was over 30 years ago and I see that they have a marriage that is precious!

    Happy anniversary!

I’ve done some wedding directing in my day (which means I’d love to win these tickets and see some of the latest styles and ideas!), so I’ve seen lots of good (and not-so-good) wedding-related stuff. One detail that comes to mind were paper flower bouquets that a friend bought through an Etsy shop. They were lovely and a really unique alternative to real-flower bouquets and corsages.

A friend of ours put a framed pic of the bride/ groom with each guest as their place card. Each picture had a personal note written on it by the bride or groom. It was a really personal and sweet touch. Everyone loved looking at each others’ pics to see what they had done with the bride and groom.

My favorite part of my former roomie’s wedding was initially my LEAST favorite part– the bright, super-hot-pink dresses that she chose for the bridesmaids. They looked hideous on paper (and on screen) but the color ended up being perfect for a summer wedding, and looked pretty good on each of us, too ;)

My favorite part of ANY wedding is watching the groom’s face as the bride makes her first appearance.

One of my specific favorite wedding occurances would have to be from my brother’s wedding. I have three younger brothers, and the oldest got married not too long ago, with the youngest(13 years old) as his best man. During his toast, he ended by saying he hoped they had “lots of babies”, which resulted in all of the guests cracking up.

one particularly fabulous wedding that I attended, well aside from the ceremony itself being beautiful and meaningful, had such a thought-full reception… the bride really outdid herself. She had a kid’s area with coloring and hopscotch a ping pong table, etc. (wouldn’t you know, that was the wedding that we got a babysitter and left ours at home?!)… they had a fabulous candy table where I first experienced chocolate covered sunflower seeds. There was a great dj, super yummy food that never ran out, great drinks… it was just such a great night!
