Fab Freebie: The (Not) Wedding Week

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

Thanks to random.org’s very arbitrary matchmaking skills, our winner is… Lawren (whose favorite wedding moment was when her cousin’s pocketed dress stored tissues to hand the groom when he teared up during the vows). Congrats!

Hope everyone’s having an awesome Fourth of July. We’re enjoying some family time but wanted to drop in with this week’s giveaway, so here ya go. Thursday marks our 4th wedding anniversary, which typically would make this “Wedding Week” around here. But since there’s not much left of that dead horse to beat (we’ve already shared every last detail about our wedding, honeymoon, traditions, how we met, how we got engaged, and our favorite meaningful momentos), we’re gonna go light on the theme this time around. Don’t get me wrong, the last year has been awesome and we’re planning something sweet to celebrate the beginning of year five (nothing big, but we’ll share whatever we end up doing). Feel free to take a trip down memory lane by checking out a recap of our $4,000 DIY backyard ceremony or browsing old Wedding Week posts from the last three years if you’re feeling sentimental though.

NotWedding Four Years

And since this turned into sort of a “Not” Wedding Week, we figured it was the perfect time to do a giveaway with The Not Wedding. They’re a self-described “killer alternative to a bridal show” where you attend a mock ceremony, sit down dinner, and dance-filled reception all in the name of having fun and checking out vendors. Basically you get to experience music, food, cake (mmmm cake) and other wedding must haves in a real-ish wedding setting. This year’s “big day” is on July 21st and two tickets (which include dinner, drinks, and dessert) are up for grabs this week.

NotWedding Main Pic

But knowing that not everyone can get to Georgia on two weeks notice, The Not Wedding is also hooking the winner up with a $150 gift card to their registry sponsor Bloomingdale’s. Plus, you’ll win a pearl bridal bracelet and hair flower fascinator (in white or ivory) from their accessory sponsor (Fine & Fleurie). Which adds up to over $300 of wedding-tastic swag. Or should I say not wedding-tastic swag? Hmm. Either way… score.

NotWedding Bloom Fine

  • PRIZE: Two tickets to The Not Wedding, a $150 Bloomingdales gift card, plus a bracelet & hair flower from Fine & Fleurie
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “NOT ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us your favorite part about a wedding that was NOT yours. Did a particular family member have an especially touching ceremony? Did your best friend cry or laugh at your killer toast? Maybe your college friend simultaneously had you drooling over her location, dress, and decor? Or – be honest – is it just the time your work friend had an awesome open bar?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 6th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: Anywhere in the world!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perked to host this giveaway, we just like rewarding our lovely readers. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from The Not Wedding, Bloomingdales and Fine & Fleurie.

My favorite wedding memory was the outfit my almost-two-year-old son wore to my sister’s wedding last September! I cannot wait until his younger brother is old enough to fit into that navy sailor jon jon. Yes. They will hate me for it when they are 15. But it was, indeed, darling!

One of my best friend’s wedding was held in a place that had separate cottages for the bride/bridesmaids and the groom/groomsmen. She also had hired people to do basically everything the day of, so we got to kick back and relax in an amazing cottage instead of hard prep for the wedding!

    NOT ME!

My favorite wedding wasn’t one I was invited to, per se. I was a photographer’s assistant for a few years and spent nearly every Saturday photographing weddings. This one bride and her NINE bridesmaids had commissioned dresses from a local dressmaker, who apparently took their money and never finished the dresses; the bride found out the truth of the dress situation at about 11 pm the night before the wedding. The morning of the wedding, they begged the manager at a department store to let them in early, and bought off-the-rack dresses; the bride ended up wearing a very light yellow prom dress, since they didn’t have any floor-length white dresses in stock. The best thing about it all was that by the time the wedding was about to happen, everyone didn’t even care about the dresses. They just pulled together and focused on the important parts of the day… it was a blast! It was the happiest wedding I’ve ever been to!

NOT ME! I loved just about everything about our own wedding–the ceremony, the pastor that married us, the venue, the photographer, the way the cake tasted, my clothes, our rings, the dancing! But I loved what the groom wore at one friend’s wedding (suit with dress shirt no tie flip-flops), I also loved the venue of another (chicory mill), the bridesmaids’ clothes of another (different dresses in same color palette).

My favorite wedding memory is from my sister’s wedding. Our father passed away a few years before. To symbolize his being there with us, my nephew (her son) walked down the aisle with the flag that draped over his casket and sat it in his seat. The entire church was in tears.

NOT ME! my favorite part of any wedding was how my sister skipped the whole girls on one side and guys on the other so that my brother and I could stand together next to her, and her husband’s brother/sil could stand next to him. There was quite a few people who were against her breaking the tradition, but for her, and someday me, it was perfect…

The best wedding I ever attended was an outdoor wedding where it started pouring rain. The bride was awesone. She just laughed, spun around, and accepted an umbrella. Her reaction made the whole day feel very lighthearted and fun.

My Dad’s wedding was on the 4th of July two years ago and as part of it, after the reception they took everyone via trolly to this resturant that had a big grassy yard behind it that over looked a lake and they had chairs and blankets and fires and a s’mores station set up for us all to hang out at while we watched fire works over the lake- it was amazing!

My favorite wedding memory is planning a choreographed dance to “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley the night before the wedding, and performing it at the reception. Three friends and I road-tripped to Ohio from SC, and ended up coordinating a dance with the bride’s younger brother and his friends. The best part, though, is that one of my friends doesn’t even remember doing it. Hah!

My favorite part of my sister’s wedding was the rehearsal dinner Pie Fight. Yep, Pie Fight. It’s a tradition in our family that started with my dad’s birthday parties several years ago. For this one, we all got dressed up in ugly bridesmaid dresses (including my fiancé) and my sister wore an awful Goodwill wedding dress. We bought 80 almost-expired pies (lemon meringue and boston cream) from a grocery outlet, and…well you can picture how that turned out.

A friend invited 10 people to each make a small cake (or pie or brownies or cupcakes) instead of having a wedding cake. There was such great variation and each item that I tried tasted better than any wedding cake I have had anywhere else. You could just take the love in those baked good and it was a great representation of the diversity of their friends and family!
