We Ordered A West Elm Duvet…

When we saw the amazing after Christmas sales at West Elm we had to spring for a new king sized duvet buddy for Ed the bed (get acquainted with Ed here and here). Even though Ed’s a queen sized bed, we wanted a king duvet cover because we thought it would drape a bit more over the sides (our old full/queen sized duvet cover was looking a little tight). Plus it’ll hopefully result in fewer sleep fights about who has more of the covers. So here’s what we got:

West Elm Bedding1

We love that it’s bright, bold, geometric, and full of energy. It just looks nice to wake up to. Plus it has a lot of the colors from our new house color scheme going on. And thanks to some huge holiday sales, the king sized duvet cover was marked down from $80 to $50:

Does anyone else love the red sale type as much as I do? I just get giddy when I click on something and those four little red letters (s-a-l-e) are there to greet me. And I’m greedy. So I googled around for a coupon code to knock those red numbers down to a little more.

It ended up being $42.49 after the discount I dug up (around $50 total with tax & delivery), which we’re pretty excited about since it’s king sized. For some reason that size always sounds like it should cost thirty gold bars or something- it’s just so regal and Henry The Eighth-esque. So while we wait the obligatory five-ish business days, we’ll be dreaming of Ed dressed in his new king-sized uniform.

Godspeed new duvet cover. Godspeed.

I totally got the same deal! Saw this last week and had to eat it up… It’s always nice to be able to change the duvet out for a quick change to the daily routine.

Not sure yet! We’ll probably pull some of those yellow-green and aqua tones from it, but we don’t want to overwhelm the room so we’ll just take it one step at a time and share our progress as we go!

I don’t know if west elm will honor it, but they now have a coupon online for 20% off all sale items. Just a heads up if you want to try for the extra five bucks!

I am not sure if you got an insert yet but I just picked up a king down comforter from Sears for 29.99. They are having a sale right now and the original price was 49.99. It is 40% off and got great reviews.

Wondering if you have had issues ordering from West Elm in the past? My order is still “In Process” and after a little googling, I’m nervous it might not ship quickly. Have you received confirmation that your duvet has shipped yet?

      Hey Amy,

We’ve never had an issue with our order (and we’ve ordered from them a ton). We haven’t checked on ours yet, but maybe you can call if you have a question. Good luck!

I really think you guys should work some of your YHL magic & convince West Elm to deliver to Canada!!!!! The closest one to me is Toronto, & unfortunately the 5 hour drive is not convincing. LOVE your blog! xo

So crazy I recently purchased this exact duvet cover with shams about a month ago. It was the first purchase for our guest room that we are remodeling so it will be fun to see the designs that you pick for your room! I love it but sure didn’t get the deal you did! Awesome!

So jealous. I ordered my own West Elm duvet cover (not the same one) in December, but mine is back-ordered until the end of January. Sigh.

I love West Elm, and have recently vowed to decorate my next apartment entirely from there. Just wondering where your old duvet was from, I really like the geometric pattern.

    thanks!

      Hey Sofia,

That one was also a West Elm find from about four years ago (it was on sale too!).

    Hi,
Love your blog! Lots of useful info! I actually purchased the same duvet cover and shams as you did…however unfortunately west elm notified me a few days ago (after purchasing both) that I would only receive the shams. They came in yesterday and I like them a lot. The problem now is I don’t know what to use as the cover. I’m really no good at choosing a color pallete. I was wondering if you would be able to help with this? I’m not allowed to paint where I live and i currently have dark mahogany furniture with white bare walls(really nothin there) I was also thinking of covering my head board with fabric…but the color I have no clue? Could you help. The rest of my condo (rental) is very blah white bare walls , dark espresso furniture and a khaki colored couch. Color pallete ideas to Cary through the whole home would be greatly appreciated. Just one more thing. In my dining room which connects by a bar to the kitchen and is part of my living room has a wall of mirrors. It looks like they have rusted on the edges and dingy and old and I don’t care for them. Unfortunately I can’t remove them. Any ideas? Thanks so much for your time and i really look forward to your reply and the continuation of the home remodel.

    Thanks again,
    Melia

      Hey Melia,

As for the mirrors, you could construct a nice chunky wood frame for them and somehow attach it to them in a way that’s removable (with caulk that you can shave off with a razor to remove them?). This way the frame will hide the rust and make them look a lot more updated. As for your bed, there are a million ways you could go. You could get a white comforter or duvet and fold an aqua blanket on the bottom of the bed (you can bring the sham with you to the store to get an aqua tone that picks up on the color of the sham) and as for the headboard you could also go with white for a clean feel or even go with that goldy-yellow tone in the shams if you’re feeling more bold. Good luck!

Lol! The first time i heard about these toilets i thought they were a joke. They kind of scare me, i would be afraid of the bidet function squirting water all over me or the bathroom.
My April fools joke is even less tasteful than yours. ;) I’m going to give my parents some fudge and after they’ve eaten a bite I’m going to tell them i made it with breast milk (which, of course, it’s not).
