Young House Love » Love & Marriage » Celebrating Our 6th Wedding Anniversary

Celebrating Our 6th Wedding Anniversary

Last weekend marked our sixth wedding anniversary. As you’ve come to know from us, we like to celebrate with some family time, a good meal, and a few pictures to remember it all by. Actually, one of our few goals for commemorating each year is to get a family portrait (which we hung as a collection in our last house). It started off very casually on our little point and shoot. Then it started involving tripods and camera remotes (you can thank Clara for that). But this year we went super simple and just broke out the iPhone on a family walk. I snapped this guy with my own hand.

Family Pic

We also tried to get a second version with us kissing. Clara loves making funny faces at herself since it’s on “facetime” mode when we’re taking these photos – so we ended up with this.

Anniversary Kissing

It was the most successful family photo session to date. A few clicks of the camera and we could get on with our walk having captured one shot with everyone smiling (the first one). It was an anniversary miracle.

We were on Belle Isle, one of our favorite spots in Richmond because it has lots of nature to enjoy as well as some history. So we got some exercise in and Clara loved exploring.

Anniversary Heart Brick

Since we were downtown, we used it as an excuse to try out a pie restaurant that we’ve been wanting to hit up. Yup, a pie restaurant. We both got savory pies (since it was lunch time) but they do offer sweet ones as well. If we were getting married again we’d totally ask them to cater.

Anniversary Proper Pie

The festivities were interrupted momentarily by nap time (which translated to work time for us) but Clara woke up just as Grammy arrived to babysit so we could enjoy a date night at Cinebistro, one of those dine-while-you-watch movie theaters.

Anniversary Cinebistro

We saw The Heat, which we thought was really funny. We enjoyed it nearly as much as our banana cheesecake (and recommend that everyone watching it attempts to eat cheesecake while doing so). All-in-all, it was definitely one of our more low-key anniversaries (here’s what we did for our first & second, third, fourth and fifth), but with such a jam-packed Fourth of July weekend it felt pretty darn perfect.

Pie is amazing! Although I’ve recently moved to Williamsburg from the cap city, we ALWAYS hit up those fabulous Richmond spots when we are in town!!

BELLE isle is one of our favorite spots in Richmond. Been going there since our VCU days. Love walking across the rocks by River Towers apts (2000 Riverside now) too!

Belated happy anniversary! We had ours earlier this month- 11 years!

I know you’re done with the Wedding Week posts, since you’ve pretty much shared all there is to share in that category, and I went back and looked though your “Lovey Dovey” posts, but I was wondering if you’ve ever written about your bachelorette party? I think I remember you saying you had a joint bachelor/bachelorette party, but I didn’t know if you’d gone in to many more details about the party. Just curious! :) Happy anniversary!

I wish we had more photos of that! It was really fun with John and I and our closest friends (two of whom later got married and now have two kids) – the whole thing was very laid back. Just a weekend of shopping and eating and hanging out and laughing.

    LOVE the pics!

Was wondering, do those pics from your phone work out well as well when you have them printed (and even enlarged, maybe?)??

Yes, we have used PicPlum for prints and have been really happy with them (we had a bunch framed over the sofa in our last house).

You guys are such a great looking family!

As for the pie-catering… you can always renew your vows or something fun NEXT year. After all, it will be your 7th anniv from your big day on 07-07-07.

    Just saying! :)

Happy anniversary! Pies are perfect! We once hosted a potluck dinner and every dish had to be in pie form. One of my favorite themes to date (and we do this monthly)!

You two are such a sweet couple. I really loved your wedding and have even mentioned it on my site. I write a wedding blog (sorta small right now but it’s a start). I think it would be cool to interview you guys some time about your wedding and your keepsakes. You are so creative I just about burst with “Why didn’t I think of that!?” every time.

PS – That picture of Clara looking embarrassed by your kiss is awesome. She has so much personality.

Happy anniversary! (And I want a pie restaurant and dinner with a movie option around me!) How hilarious was the Scotch tape scene? I’m thinking of recreating that with 3 year-old DD for a fun photo op.

    Happy Six-versary!

Is it humid down there like it is in MA? How do you keep Clara occupied in the heat? Do you do any activities specifically? We need ideas since we also both work at home!

    Heeelp!

So hot! We’ve done lots of swimming in the baby pool on our deck, going to the real pool (a nearby public pool), and inside stuff like drawing/painting/stickers/legos, etc.

Sherry have you thought about putting some more eyeliner on your bottom lash line too hon? or less on the top lash line? I’ve noticed you’re going so heavy with the top liner it’s making your lids look very heavy/droopy, particularly when photographed. Need to balance it out a bit hon. (Hope you don’t mind me saying, I’m a TV make-up artist of 15 yrs).

sherry, you’re always adorable in every picture (and in real life too). you are also WAY more gracious than i would be if someone called out my eye-lining skills.

happy late anniversary. if i could, i’d send two scoops of salted caramel ice cream from salt and straw for you two!
