Stuff We Love
Can’t wait to see how it looks finished. What a great way to oomph up that large wall. Love!
I’m excited to see how it looks when you’re finished. We have a large wall that I’d like to hang a grouping of pictures on, too, but I’m totally intimidated by the photo gallery thing. They scare me. When you’re finished maybe I can fly you to Seattle to help me with my wall!
Why oh why didn’t I wait for this post before I began my stairwell collage…..??? For some reason I thought because a collage like this is sort of “freestyle” that randomly banging nails in the wall would work out fine. Sadly, I am filling a dozen holes and still not quite happy!
Love how yours goes so high and low and fills the whole space. I do have a couple of cheapo frames with acrylic instead of glass…maybe you could use that instead of glass in the frames that are “Clara-height?”
Clara proof tip- those lower pictures she’s going to want to pull off the wall as soon as she’s mobile. I put heavy duty velco behind all my pictures that are within my 14 mo. olds reach. It worls liek a charm!
That’s exactly what we’re planning! Glad to hear it works. Woot!

i cant wait to see it! ive been wanting to do a gallery wall in our house but ive been holding off because i wanted to see yalls first : )
that advertising wall is perfect, lol. It totally represents you guys: marketing and deal-finding!!
Okay, in my defense, the caffeine hasn’t really kicked in, and for a minute I thought those placeholders *were* the art. All I could think was, “Ohhhh, Bob is going to INFARCT!” Can’t wait to see what ends up there and will be waiting to see how you light it!
Haha, 500 YHL points for using infarct. Love that word.

I love it! What are your plans for the cloches/bell jars though since Clara will be walking soon. Just curious I have a 1-2/2 year old and I haven’t found any solutions for displaying my breakable things.
We’re just taking it day by day. She’s a really gentle girl now (pets my dangly earrings without tugging on them) but you never know how she’ll be once she starts walking. We plan to move anything that’s unsafe of course (Clara first, then design) and we’ll keep you posted on our adventures in babyproofing as we go!

Wow, that’s an interesting take on couponing…. ;)
LOL! I seriously thought Sherry was on some sort of serial couponing mission!!! Once I read the linked post and figured out it was for the photo collage I nearly fell out of my chair laughing! Can’t wait to see it finished!!!
Love it! Can’t wait to see the final product! :) Btw I was reading the post below and immediately thought of you guys, it might inspire you for the kitchen area for the panels! :)

Oh my god! You guys replying to my post made me smile! Reading your post is tradition for me, and I know this is random, but I wanted u to know that I made the calendar you posted for my boyfriend as one of his Xmas presents.. and I printed an extra one for my desk at work hehe You guys ROCK!
Happy St. Patty’s Day btw!
Aw you’re so sweet! So glad you whipped up your own custom calendar.

I was waiting for when you guys would do this!! did you get art yet to put in the magnitude of frame you guys have already or are you just throwing around ideas of the layout?
We’re planning to use entirely what we have first (for frames and art) and slowly evolve and grow the collection with new prints, etsy finds, meaningful objects that we acquire, etc). Should be fun to share how the wall changes over time!

There’s nothing like early 90’s Rap to get the creative juices flowing! This is going to look great guys! Oh and ditto the velcro idea for the frames, works like a charm : D
oooohhh! I’ll be curious to see how you secure the lower frames to the wall with a tiny cruiser at home. I’m curious if you plan to keep the kitchen doorway the same size? Would you recenter the console table at a later time if you did open it up?
I’m pretty sure we’ll leave that doorway as is (if not forever at least for the next 5+ years) since it’s already really wide (nearly 5′) and the view from the table out to the console is so pretty we’d actually hate to mess with it.

OMG!
Spoiler alert:
I was just browsing the photo gallery on the Washington Post website and LOVE the gallery wall! CAN’T WAIT to see the post and more images!
I know right? They scooped us! The Post works fast. Haha. Can’t wait to share all the details!

You get three gold stars!
1. For using recycled materials for place setting.
2. For those materials being weekly flyers.
3. For keeping us hooked until the upcoming reveal. Can’t wait!
So, on the topic or the reveal, can you please include answers to the following questions in your upcoming post:
1. How will you keep the bottom frames from Clara’s hands? (how will you secure them);
2. What was your starting point of the collage? (the middle frame, perhaps); and
3. When placing the frames, did you take into account the content of those frames, or just their sizes?
Sounds good! Will do! And three gold stars? Awesome.

When I first saw this I thought Ohhhhh a new approach to coupon clipping! haha I’m a little slow before my morning coffee!!
im such a ditz….at first i was like ‘maybe she has a new method for coupon clipping?’ wow. hahahaha.
The bit of trapped white space near the top center was bugging me, but I knew you all would come through. Just saw a sneak peak in the Washington Post pictures, and the white key you placed there is perfect! Way to go YHL!
be warned: if you hang stuff that low your child WILL and i repeat WILL make you regret it, one way or another, or another, or another.
ha! I actually saw the finished product in the onine Post link!! It looks awesome!
OMGGGGG Just saw how your picture collage turned out and I absolutely LOVE it… can’t wait to see more pictures :)
Oh gosh, even the way you plan looks awesome! How DO you do it?!
Just did this to the wall leading down my stairs the basement. So worth it! Hope yours turns out well!
I seriously thought you were talking about your coupons & saving money post!! it took me a while to realize that you were talking about the wall of frames! Looks like the Post scooped you on this too ;) I can’t wait to see more pics!!! Looks marvelous!!!
Can’t wait to see the results. I recently tried a photo wall myself and wasnt thrilled with tthe outcome. Maybe this will give me some new ideas :)
My guess? Coupon clipping. :)
I don’t know, guys. Taping sale papers to the wall and calling it “art” is just a bit too edgy for me. Kidding! :) Looking forward to seeing what you end up hanging there!
hmm… i re-read your original post about the uneven table. Are you planning to experiment with frame sizes? I was wondering if using mostly larger frames on the smaller side would make it look bigger (or, if that would make it look smaller)? Or if using smaller frames on the smaller side would make it look bigger?
I can’t wait to see how it comes together!
Were using the frames that we already have, so we just made templates and moved them around to see what looked best. More details asap!

I’m doing this right now and I already have newsprint fingerprints on my freshly painted walls. Did you do something special to prevent this?
Oh man, that didn’t happen to us. Hmm, I wonder why not though. Maybe your walls are still not fully cured (if they’re sort of soft the newsprint might stick more – so perhaps giving them another few days would make it easier?). Hopefully you can just wipe them down with a microfiber cloth (try it dry first, and a smidge wet if need be). Good luck!

Thanks! I’ll try that.
