We’re super psyched to announce that True Value has put together a little DIY blog squad and we actually made the cut!
Yes that weird flesh squeezing sound accompanied by a soft whimper is us pinching ourselves. We’re among some pretty amazing fellow bloggers so we’ve both got jazz hands over being in such good company (one hand is pinching while the other one is jazzing). Check out our fellow squad members:
- Our girl Katie over at All Bower Power
- Layla & Kevin from The Lettered Cottage
- Josh over at Bungalow 23
- Brian & Paul with The Handyguys Podcast
Quite a bevy of brilliant bloggers, no? In fact we’re sort of spinning our wheels when it comes to choosing which projects should make the cut. You know what that means? We’ll end up doing a bunch of planned ones (yes, yes, we’ll tackle our unfinished basement!) and probably wing a few impromptu updates along the way. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves already. Leave it to an amazing opportunity like this to get us all hyper and frazzled. Here’s the deal: we’ll be blogging about a series of DIY projects that we’ll undertake over the next few months using a $1000 gift card courtesy of True Value.
Now do you see why we’re all over the place? We’re excited out of our minds. So stay tuned to see what we’ll tackle, how we’ll do it and just how far we can stretch our loot. And of course before we joined the squad we swung through True Value to see what they had on hand and we were pleased to see that not only did they have a ton of materials and tools to aid with our ever-growing to-do list, they actually welcomed Burger into the store with open arms and even offered up a chihuahua-sized cart as his mode of transportation. If that’s not the ultimate indicator of a home improvement mecca then we don’t know what is…
Just look at that tail wag. But enough about our fur baby. Maybe you’re itching to get your mitts on some cold hard home improvement cash as well. It’s a good thing True Value is actually offering 5K to the winner of their DIY Drama contest- and all you have to do is head over and tell them about a home improvement project that didn’t quite have a happy ending (sort of like our sad little string lantern attempt).
Who knows, you just might snag the grand prize for recounting that fateful day when DIY was not your favorite abbreviation. Don’t save the drama for your momma guys, go get that cash! And stay tuned to see what projects we have in the hopper…
And now for some legal mumbo jumbo: We’re super excited that True Value selected us to be one of five bloggers to work on their DIY Squad. They’ve challenged us to take on a project using materials from their stores and they’ve paid us for the materials and our time to write about it. However, our opinions are entirely our own and we have not been paid to publish positive comments. Can’t wait to share all the ideas we have up our sleeves…
Very cool! Gotta love True Value – in our area (RI), they’re dusty older stores filled with regular hardware staple items, as well as odd and random things. The one we visit is http://www.durfeehardware.com/ which is an amazing store. It’s like a living hardware museum! Love Durfees! (Not affiliated, by the way)…
Can’t wait to see what you guys do!
congrats! that’s so exciting and I’m so glad Bower Power is in on it too. I love Katie’s blog.

Congrats, what will you do?! I’ll be watching. I’m guessing you’ll make the $1000 look like $10,000 plus! Good luck!

That’s so awesome! Congrats! That’s so much money – I can’t wait to see what you do with it!!!
Congrats! Can’t wait to see the projects! :)
Good on you all. I am a big fan of both True Value and Ace–we have one of each within a mile of our house, and we try to use them first, since it is supporting a truly local business–and they have people who really know the products and give great advice. The TV is actually at the end of our street, five blocks away, and has been there since 1950. The Ace in our village downtown, has been a hardware store there since the late 1800s!
I’m not anti-box stores per se, but it is nice when we can support the little guys.
CONGRATS!!! Can’t wait to see what you DIY!
Random question… where do you clothes shop? You always have on such cute, simple tops. LOVE THEM (especially the navy blue shirt above)!!! :-)
Aw thanks! I’m just as thrifty when it comes to clothes as I am about furnishings and accessories so I frequent Target and H&M (where I got the shirt in the first pic above) along with the sales racks at Banana Republic, Ann Taylor Loft and The Limited. Oh and almost all of my earrings are from Target (a frequently asked question around here). Hope it helps!
not sure if it’s only me but two of your links don’t work…the lettered cottage and handyguys
Thanks for the heads up! All fixed.

Burger is sooo cute! He looks like he’s having the time of his life in the cart! =)

Congrats! I can’t wait to read about your new projects. Just curious – how do you get selected for something like this? Did you apply, or did someone nominate you? Did True Value randomly find your blog on their own? It’s cool no matter what.
Hey Kristi W,
Good question! We actually just got an email from them and they followed things up by calling us to explain the idea of the DIY Squad. Of course we had to swing through a True Value store to ensure that they had materials and products that we could use for impending projects on our to-do list, and once we dropped in we were totally on board! Hope it helps.

Good luck guys! I’m sure you’ll come up with some great ideas. I think the best part about this post is Burger and the fact that he gets just as excited as you guys about home improvement supplies!
wow that’s awesome – congrats guys.
Congratulations! I can’t wait for the projects to begin! I bet there will be some awesome ideas that all of us can adopt :-)
Congrats! I’m so excited for you and for us readers to see what projects you have up your sleeves in the coming months. I just have to say how cute those photos of Burger are as well- love it!

Too Cool! I’m thinking $1000 will go a long way at True Value! Can’t wait to see what you come up with. I think Burger is the most excited of all! Where’s his YHL T?
I know! He should have been in full YHL garb. Next time…
Isn’t that the same picture that you guys used when you switched over URLs? Did you just photoshop in the logos? Wow – sneaky. I don’t normally notice stuff like that, but Sherry I LOVE your earrings – so it’s more me recognizing your earrings than recognizing the picture.
Congratulations you two!! I can’t wait to see what you’re going tackle!!
Haha, you got us Sarah. For the original picture, here’s that post all about the sordid tale of our url switch: https://www.younghouselove.com/the-end-of-this-young-house/
p.s. Those earrings are from Target!

Woo Hoo Congrats! Cannot wait to see what you do with the basement!!
We already purchased the materials and are mapping out our game plan as we speak! Stay tuned…
I can’t wait to see what you come up with, congratulations!
We were pleasantly surprised to discover that Lowe’s is pet friendly too! One day we were walking thru our local store (Raleigh) and noticed dogs on leashes. Regular dogs – not service dogs! So I went up front and asked the manager, and he said that well behaved dogs were welcome! Brittany, our 85lb german sheppard mix, loves to shop so now we go exclusively to Lowe’s b/c she can come with us. People look at us a little funny, but it’s fun.
Sorry to echo the masses BUT congrats! wow! what a fantastic opportunity. can’t wait to see all that you all come up with!!

What great news! Can’t wait to see what you tackle. Congrats!
Congrats on this opportunity to get more projects done around your lovely home! And I must say that I LOVE TruValue/Ace Hardware stores – they’re smaller but always have those odd items I’m looking for that HD/Lowe’s won’t have, and I don’t have to walk miles for it either. That and short, fast lines and awesome customer service keep me shopping there. Can’t wait to see what you guys come up with!
