This week’s prize is doubly exciting for us: it’s 100% eco-friendly and comes from a local Virginia business (just up the road from Richmond in Culpeper, VA). Green Nest‘s got such a broad smorgasbord of kind-to-the-earth gifts that we’re psyched that this week’s winner will score such stylish loot. There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get to it.
First off, the winner gets their choice of any 3 x 5 or 4 x 6 Fab Habitat recycled rug (woven from recycled polypropylene straws). Here’s a sampling of some of 50+ designs you get to pick from.
Then there’s a soy candle that comes in a decorative silk-screen glass. There are 19 designs to choose from and after the 90 hours of candle burning time you can reuse the glass (and even drink out of it).
But you won’t necessarily need that glass for drinking because the prize pack includes your choice of recycled soda/beer bottle tumbler set (you know I’m jealous of whoever wins this one since I failed miserably at my own DIY attempt). There are four in a set and 5 styles to choose from.
Last but not least, a green prize pack wouldn’t be complete without a little greenery. The winner can choose two of these Garden-in-a-Bag kits for growing some herbs without even having to get your hands dirty.
So that’s the prize. Stay tuned for a discount on Thursday, but for now let’s get to the entry details:
- PRIZE: A green prize pack as described above from Green Nest.
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “GREEN ME” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: …let’s use this a chance to share some eco-friendly tips. Have you started taking any extra steps to be green lately? Or do you have an especially easy tip to share with everyone? Or, as we witnessed in Ithaca, have you seen any especially green locations recently?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 22nd at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The Lower 48 United States
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck…
Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just take them on to reward our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from Green Nest.

We’ve made the switch to eco-friendly and/or organic products one category at a time (a category being “produce” or “cleaning products”) instead of all at once, to reduce sticker-shock. MUCH easier to gradually adjust your budget or buying habits this way! Next up is laundry detergent – the last category of products we buy that was non-eco-friendly. :)

I recycle ALL of the paper & junk mail from my home by taking it to work where they collect mixed paper.

My easiest and best green tip is to work your hardest to conserve electricity and energy in your home. An added bonus: for two months in the spring, my electric company actually owed ME money, and not the other way around!

GREEN ME! We joined an organic CSA this summer – so supporting locally grown food seemed like a good way to “go green”.

We use reusable grocery bags- lots of stores are giving a $.05 credit for doing so. And if I’m buying only a single item or two- I simply ask to carry my items out- with the receipt clearly held in my hand!

I was just in San Francisco and really noticed how green it was there. I noticed a lot of green roofing happening or in the works, recycling on most street corners, and very limited use of offering bags (no plastic!) it was inspiring!

Unfortunately our apartment does not have recycling but we have a funky laundry size hamper that fills 3 times as fast as the trash, and my work is fine with me taking it into our recycling bins.
My fiance and I craig’s listed and thrift shopped a lot of our apartment, even buying gently used furniture off friends. I love to get my hands dirty so I refinished the vanity and dresser of similar style with matching stain and paint (the dresser ended up being press board by my Fiance loved it so we adjusted the plan) I built more shelves and painted them to match his entertainment center giving us handy storage and better use of space on his cavernous ec.

This giveaway is so me!! (crossing fingers)
I try to be a green as possible, and I pass that on to my HS English students. Conserving paper, recycling our bottles, using my Nalgene (everyday, for years on end), my reusable lunch bag with cloth napkins and silverwear in tow, and much more.

Reusable grocery bags and water bottles. Those two things alone greatly decreased the amount of trash we generate.

I’ve been vegan for over 3 years now. Best way to be good to the environment, hands down. My money isn’t funding the factory farming industry, the single worst polluter in the world (worse than all the world’s transportation emissions, combined).
Erin K. says
GREEN ME! I use cloth bags and mesh produce bags. I air dry dishes and 1/2 of our clothes. Among other things…

I try to be green, as John Mayer would say, I’m light green, haha.
I make my own house cleaning products and have been for a few years now. They clean just as well and save the environment!

I don’t buy water bottles anymore and try to reuse coffee cups and anything I can. It’s not only green but it’s cheaper!!

We recycle everything, even if the city won’t take it, we find a place that will recycle it rather than make more garbage.

We use reusable bags for our grocery shopping (at least when we remember to bring them in to the store from our trunk, but our intentions are always there!). We recycle everything that is approved by the City of Phoenix (we even earn points for every week we put our recycle bin out for pick-up!). We have been swtiching to ‘green’ cleaning products and have switched to the long-lasting, energy efficient light bulbs. Nothing too crazy, but I figure every little bit helps!

I’ve picked up lots of great green tips from y’alls site. We’ve been making the switch to eco-friendly cleaning products, recycling more, and letting the dishes dry overnight instead of using the heated cycle in the dishwasher (love that one).
My favorite lately has been using freecyle to find homes for items we no longer need, and score some great thing for our own house, as well. It feels great to help out a neighbor while keeping still usable items out of the landfill!

GREEN ME… i’ve FINALLY started recycling at our house. sad, but true. we recycle using a a bin in our hallway closet. i’ve also started to cut up old t-shirts to use as kitchen/bathroom rags, so that i’m not constantly using paper towels for minor cleanups/wiping my hands dry.
