Fab Freebie: I Dream Of Greenie

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

This week’s prize is doubly exciting for us: it’s 100% eco-friendly and comes from a local Virginia business (just up the road from Richmond in Culpeper, VA). Green Nest‘s got such a broad smorgasbord of kind-to-the-earth gifts that we’re psyched that this week’s winner will score such stylish loot. There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get to it.

First off, the winner gets their choice of any 3 x 5 or 4 x 6 Fab Habitat recycled rug (woven from recycled polypropylene straws). Here’s a sampling of some of 50+ designs you get to pick from.

Green Nest Rugs

Then there’s a soy candle that comes in a decorative silk-screen glass. There are 19 designs to choose from and after the 90 hours of candle burning time you can reuse the glass (and even drink out of it).

Green Nest Skeem Candles

But you won’t necessarily need that glass for drinking because the prize pack includes your choice of recycled soda/beer bottle tumbler set (you know I’m jealous of whoever wins this one since I failed miserably at my own DIY attempt). There are four in a set and 5 styles to choose from.

Green Nest Bottles

Last but not least, a green prize pack wouldn’t be complete without a little greenery. The winner can choose two of these Garden-in-a-Bag kits for growing some herbs without even having to get your hands dirty.

Green Nest Garden In A Bag

So that’s the prize. Stay tuned for a discount on Thursday, but for now let’s get to the entry details:

  • PRIZE: A green prize pack as described above from Green Nest.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “GREEN ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …let’s use this a chance to share some eco-friendly tips. Have you started taking any extra steps to be green lately? Or do you have an especially easy tip to share with everyone? Or, as we witnessed in Ithaca, have you seen any especially green locations recently?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 22nd at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The Lower 48 United States
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just take them on to reward our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from Green Nest.

Switch to a (almost) paperless kitchen. It makes every day feel fancy to use cloth napkins!

    GREEN ME!
My family is very eco-conscience and we try to do as much as possible to contribute to the Green Movement…. organic, reduce, reuse, recycle. We try and buy as much local produce as possible, including most of our veggies from my mom’s garden. We also use biodegradable doggie bags for something that we do contribute to the landfill.

I will definitely be bookmarking this store even if I don’t win. How fun!

We raid garage sales and craigs list for new treasures and necessary toys for our growing 2 year old rather than store bought. ;)It’s cheeper and an old item gets a new lease on life.

I really liek those recycled rugs and have been thinking of getting one for my balcony fro a while now.

Living in a new apartment, i miss being able to garden like i used to in my old house. I;m currently working on planting and herb garden in pots. We also have all of our entertainment unit appliance and computers plugged into a power strip that we turn off at night and during the day when we aren’t in the apartment.

Our apartment building also has a great recycling program.

    GREEN ME!

My husband and I have been trying to embrace green living for a while now. We take our own bags when we go shopping, we clean as much as possible using vinegar and lime, all the light bulbs in our house are CFLs.

Some of the more difficult choices we made have been growing our own vegetable garden (we don’t have such green thumbs as most!) and walking to places under 2 miles. These things take up more time and effort, but we feel wonderful after having stuck on to it for more than 6 months now!!!

We’re expecting twins in a few weeks, and we’re planning to be green with them by cloth diapering AND not using disposable wipes. Plus, I’m going to nurse them, so no bottles, no bottles to be washed, and no formula cans to trash :)

I’m all about recycling furniture from room to room. Sometimes a desk in the guest bedroom finds a new home, and gives new life to, say, the living room!

Finally, after much prodding, I got the restaurant that I work at to start composting. We use mostly local, organic ingredients, and have a big garden in the back so it’s a no-brainer. It cost about $30 to put it up and viola, instant (almost) natural, organic fertilizer!

I love my apartment complex because it is one of the first eco-friendly living spaces in DC – we have a recycling room, geothermal pumps for heating and air, and a composting program! Living here, among lots of others who are the same wrt the environment, makes it easy to be greener.

    VERDE MOI!

My big new green step is composting. Yeah, yeah, yeah, not breaking any ground but it has seriously cut our already low garbage hauls each week. And it’s fascinating to watch things break down. So what if I find myself stuffing my pockets with leaves to add some good oxygen to the pile. It’s an adventure.

I’m very diligent about carrying a reusable tote with me wherever I go so I don’t have to use plastic bags. This habit stuck with me while growing up in germany where stores charge money for their store plastic bags.

We’ve always been recyclers at home, but our new apartment doesn’t offer an onsite recycling pick-up service, so we’ve started to take weekly trips to the recycling center in our town just to haul away our papers, cans and plastic in an earth-friendly way.

I’ve been working hard at going green. We buy mostly recycled groceries, shop Good Will for home goods, and have a push reel mower. My project right now is moving from eco-friendly ready-made cleaning projects to whipping up my own with baking soda, vinagar, borax, and castile soap. So far, so good!

We compost (even though we live in an apartment) and it has dramatically cut down on our trash. So much so that we can justify spending a little extra on decomposable trash bags. We are also a pretty active family and my husband bikes into work each day.

I’m expecting my 4th baby and you have totally inspired me to go with cloth diapers!! I’m always finding ways my family can be more green and even though all my friends think I’m nuts to use cloth, I’m doing it anyways!!
I also started doing residential cleaning with another stay at home mom from our school and we use the green products that we use at home in their homes! 2 have even switched to using them at home themselves!
