This week’s prize is doubly exciting for us: it’s 100% eco-friendly and comes from a local Virginia business (just up the road from Richmond in Culpeper, VA). Green Nest‘s got such a broad smorgasbord of kind-to-the-earth gifts that we’re psyched that this week’s winner will score such stylish loot. There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get to it.
First off, the winner gets their choice of any 3 x 5 or 4 x 6 Fab Habitat recycled rug (woven from recycled polypropylene straws). Here’s a sampling of some of 50+ designs you get to pick from.
Then there’s a soy candle that comes in a decorative silk-screen glass. There are 19 designs to choose from and after the 90 hours of candle burning time you can reuse the glass (and even drink out of it).
But you won’t necessarily need that glass for drinking because the prize pack includes your choice of recycled soda/beer bottle tumbler set (you know I’m jealous of whoever wins this one since I failed miserably at my own DIY attempt). There are four in a set and 5 styles to choose from.
Last but not least, a green prize pack wouldn’t be complete without a little greenery. The winner can choose two of these Garden-in-a-Bag kits for growing some herbs without even having to get your hands dirty.
So that’s the prize. Stay tuned for a discount on Thursday, but for now let’s get to the entry details:
- PRIZE: A green prize pack as described above from Green Nest.
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “GREEN ME” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: …let’s use this a chance to share some eco-friendly tips. Have you started taking any extra steps to be green lately? Or do you have an especially easy tip to share with everyone? Or, as we witnessed in Ithaca, have you seen any especially green locations recently?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 22nd at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The Lower 48 United States
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck…
Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just take them on to reward our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from Green Nest.

I started cooking dried beans in the crock pot and freezing them. It saves on aluminum cans that have to be made and then recycled, plus I reuse the plastic freezer bags I freeze them in. Two other benefits are a recycling bin that doesn’t fill up as fast and saved $$!

Our family tries to stay on top of the green scene by adding eco-friendly ideas to our routines on a regular basis. Our most recent addition is un-paper towels. We’ve started using cloth towels to replace paper towels!

GREEN ME! We’ve been composting for a while now, which means using less trash bags! I also finally bought some biodegradable doggie trash bags to take on our walks, instead of using regular plastic shopping bags to clean up after our pup.

I just found out about these amazing microfiber cloths by Norwex (http://norwex.com/norwex.php?lng=7&cnt=223) – they have some silver fibers/particles in them that bacteria/fungi can’t survive in… I haven’t tried them yet, but not having to spend money on (and submit myself to breathing in) harsh chemical cleaners sounds good to me! Plus they are reusable so that’s less waste in a landfill somewhere too.
I’m not typically super green – but these sound amazing and like they’d be an easy switch for me to make!
Chantel says
GREEN ME!!! I started a research project studying aquaponics, which uses the waste from fish to fertilize plants in a hydroponic environment, it s a great way to grow food locally and without contaminating runoff.

Green Me Baby!!! Also my newest and favorite “green” change is using a steam vac (I have the shark one) To “mop/clean” my floors. I LOVE it = Super clean floors with no more chemicals, and way fast/easy!

This summer I’ve started composting. Haven’t really gotten much from it yet, but I can’t wait to use it my garden next year.

When I was in highschool many years ago, I did research at a university that had just put in a new green building and my friends thought that the flushless urinals were one of our favorite things. Not sure why they were such a hit but we still joke about them.

GREEN ME! What fantastic products!
Going green is a challenge at our house, especially with a husband who hates doing dishes opting instead for paper plates and cups. (I must insert here that he’s wonderful in every other way.) But we do what we can, including recycling newspapers, boxes, bottles and cans and I’m passionate about using cloth napkins. It’s amazing all the little things you can do to save, such as leaving watering cans outside to catch rainwater, cooking egg and Canadian bacon in the same skillet, using solar lights outside, etc.

GREEN ME PLEASE!! My family’s newest “green” idea is to use cloth towels and dish rags in place of paper towel. Cuts down on paper waste and grocery bills!

Instead of tossing no-longer-needed items like I used to, I’ve been listing things on craigslist or free cycle. My junk is another persons treasure, I guess!

I changed my cleaning agents to all eco-friendly cleaners, we use micro fiber cloths rather than paper towels (if we DO use paper towels we use recycled) and have slowly started moving towards organic fabrics, etc.

GREEN ME! I love to use old coffee containers as new storage for my craft bits and pieces. If you wash them out with a vinegar and water mixture it takes out the coffee smell. You can also spray paint them or cover them with scrap paper to make them more appealing.

My husband and I live in DC, so we use public transportation instead of our car almost daily. We also bring our own bags when we shop (DC charges 10 cents per bag to encourage people to bring their own…works on us!).

I always either give away my unwanted clothes, or if there is something wrong with them, i try to reuse them. (Tee’s work especially good for cleaning.) :) I recycle and try to use reusable cups and bottles whenever possible. Yet, maybe the funnest (is that a word?) form of recycling is sharing. My friends and i never buy the same magazine or book (if we can help it):) we just have to use a little patience and wait a couple days to get our turn. Hey, it saves us a little money and we produce less waste:)

We’re prepping for baby #3 this fall, and making our first attempt at cloth diapering (your input has been helpful, btw!) Our last was seven years ago, and cloth has come a long way! I’m really excited to make the switch, and plan on integrating greener products into our lives (cleaning, paint, etc) as we prep for our little man. Love the blog!

I don’t feel all that green. I try to reduce, reuse everything I can and try to make my own of anything. Dying for something better though. Really want solar panels or a place for a compost.
