Another Unsuccessful Attempt To Keep It Cool

Alert: Regardless of the fact that I say Pinterest ten million times (drinking game, anyone?) this wasn’t paid or perked by them or anyone else. We’re just eye-candy obsessed gals who love a good pin-fest. Sometimes while eating Oreos.

You guys know my Pinterest addiction runs deep from this heartfelt post of yore. So when Katie called me to say that she thought we should challenge ourselves to make one thing each season that’s inspired by all the amazing stuff that we’ve pinned over there (and call it… wait for it… The Pinterest Challenge) I thought it sounded like fun. It’s a welcome slap of stop-pinning-and-start-doing. Because I’ve pinned 738 things. And I’ve done four (this one, this one, this one, and this one). Well five if you count this haircut – but I outsourced that.

Look, Katie even whipped up a spiffy little graphic:

Pinterest Challenge

Oh and because Katie and I geek out whenever we’re together (even just virtually for a little self-issued challenge) we got more than a little goofy and decided to make this video to explain the whole idea of the challenge. And there’s a pretty exciting cameo in it (and I’m not talking ’bout Burger- although he does try to steal the show). So don’t scroll down before watching the video unless you’re a fun-hater and you wanna ruin the surprise (or you’re at work so you can’t watch videos – well I would still watch it on silent before scrolling, but that’s just me):

Ah outtakes. They’re my favorite thing ever. I’m working on a theory that outtakes are the window to the soul. My soul’s apparently a total nerd, but hey, nerd is the new jock. Anyway, I told you Katiekins and I go crazy when we team up, so you were adequately warned. Or maybe it’s just the camera that makes it impossible for me to act normal (as demonstrated here). That’s another theory I’m working on. Camera-induced-insanity.

But back to my Pinterest project. John and I were brainstorming a chandelier or hanging pendant light for the laundry room and came up with the idea of using a mega-amount of clothespins to create some sort of shade. And what do you know, when we searched Pinterest to see if anyone else has tackled something similar, the perfect pinspiration (har-har) popped up in the form of this project (originally from here) and this project (originally from here). What are the odds? Not one but two clothespin light fixtures to use as a jumping off point. Oh happy day.

So far we’ve installed a $5 light kit from Ikea…

CPL Light Kit In Close

… and have picked up these materials for the shade part of the pendant:

CPL Supplies

We’re definitely going to put our spin on things (so it might end up looking like sort of a hybrid between the two amazing fixtures above) but we’ll just have to see where we end up. I know I’m weird, but sitting on the floor playing with various clothespin patterns sounds like a good time to me.

Oh and did you catch the part in the video where we invited you to partake in the challenge along with us? First, here’s the “us” breakdown:

Oh god I could totally kiss you! I saw the PInterest Challenge and thought “whoopee I’ll make the clothes peg chandy I re-pinned from Sherry the other day” and then you also decided to make that so now I don’t have to think, I can just copy – EVEN BETTER! yipeee!

Yup, it’s a plug one but we just cut off the plug and expose the internal wires that we hook up to an overhead junction box and cover with a ceiling plate from Home Depot. Hope it helps!

I’ve been saying ever since I discovered Pinterest, that I had to actually do something!! Even before I discovered Pinterest I had a few ideas of my own and with inspiration from you guys I thought it would be awesome to start a little diary with pictures and descriptions in hopes of having my own successful blog. I will definetly do this challenge because at least it would be one small step in the direction I want to go. Oh and a little quote I love that I found on Pinterest “The work you do while you procrastinate is probably the work you whould be doing the rest of your life” -Jessica Hische-

Emily Henderson! She is my HGTV crush! I love that I can be inspired by her show without having to hire a carpenter to complete the projects. I am so taking this challenge. I’m a pinning fool, but I’ve only actually made a couple things too. I better get going if I’m going to have anything respectable to show….hmmm…what to make first???

I’m excited, I’m going to start a Pin Project! I have a piece of art I’ve been admiring on etsy and I’m going to try and DIY/customize my own! Hopefully we’ll all have great results — maybe at the end of the project you can have a reader submissions gallery!

Yay! This is exciting. I hadn’t heard of Pinterest until you mentioned it a few months ago, and now I am OBSESSED! Especially in the month leading up to buying my first house as I was finding all sorts of room layout and art ideas. Now that I’ve been in my place for a month, I’ve been anxious to create something from all my pins.

I did create one sweet calendar thingy made from paint chips, displayed behind a glass frame for a dry erase calendar, but this is an exciting challenge to do something much more interesting! Thanks!

I am obsessed with pinterest and love the idea of the challenge! I finally did an art project from pinterest last week, I was inspired by http://pinterest.com/pin/13806399/ priced at £80.00 GBP – yikes! I spent about $13 including the shells and frame from Ikea. I love how it turned out!

On another note – have you started looking for more patio furniture? I just picked up 4 of these Adirondack chairs from home depot on sale for $20 each. http://www.homedepot.com/buy/featured-products-patio-furniture-adirondack-collection/adirondack-patio-chair-199561.html Seemed like a great deal for these type of chairs and they are going on our front porch. Now we have to decide to paint or stain. What would you do? Our house is a 1930’s bungalow, almost UNC blue with black shutters and white trim, the porch flooring is grey.

Challenge accepted! I've been searching the net for something I could DIY to cover the ugly bare bulb in my (ugly) laundry room.

PS – Clara looks so much like you Sherry! Other than the lack of hair that is. But bald is beautiful! I've got a 13 month old bald beauty myself. :) She has a baby mullet as I like to call it. Hardly anything in the front and curls in the back.

Is the idea to find stuff on the www or Pinterest or my own photos or all of the above? Different “boards’ for each? Sorry, I’m not usually this loser-like. Maybe I will try and follow you Sherry? Is that the idea? Oh crap…

You’re so not a loser! You just weren’t sucked into the Pinterest vortex yet! First you request an invite to pinterest at http://www.pinterest.com. Once that comes you head over and start pinning things (they’ll teach you how when you log in) either by repinning something you see on pinterest.com or by reading other blogs and pinning something there (which will show up on your pinboard over on pinterest). Then you can pick anything you pin and use that as inspiration to take on a similar project in your own home!

Just wondering, and I thought you would be the deciding jury.

I am wondering because i am in the market for a new one, but want to use a bench similar to what you had, where I could have two chairs sitting next to each other on one side and the bench on the other. How small is too small? Thanks!

I have a few projects I’ve already done, sort of like money they start to burn a hole in my pocket once I’ve pinned them so I get going on making them…I am however a schizophrenic crafter, so I have multiple projects going on at once, they do eventually get completed though. I already know which one I want to add for the challenge, just need to put it on my blog so I can link up. So fun!
