The Most Expensive Toilet

Yup, it’s a rare Sunday post- just because we have an exciting bathroom update to share. I know we mentioned that we’ve had great luck with under-$100 American Standard toilets, but we’re eating those words. Why? Because we just discovered the most amazing toilet that we have ever heard of. It’s like the Jake Gyllenhaal of toilets. As in, there is nothing better. Feast your eyes on this sexpot:

Toilet Pic

I mean, who wouldn’t want a toilet with:

  • a heated seat and heated foot blower
  • ambient lighting (right in the bowl!)
  • a motion activated lid and seat (it opens and closes for you)
  • advanced bidet function
  • built in speakers and a remote docking station for playing tunes
  • an integrated air dryer (yes, it blows you dry down there)
  • a touch screen remote (to control the entire thing like a giant robot)

Remote

Now, I know what you’re thinking. That toilet must cost millions, if not tens of thousands of dollars. But get this, it’s under 5K!

Toiletprice

And we decided to spring for it! I mean, what’s the point of DIYing day in and day out without a little heated seat and air drying action to get you through the rough spots? This toilet is a guaranteed everyday morale boost. Because after a long day of painting or sledgehammering, how good does it sound to retreat to a heated toilet that has ambient bowl lighting and plays our favorite tunes while we use the remote to activate the air dry function?

I mean, just look how gorgeous it looks in this all glass room overlooking a city. I’ve always wanted an all glass bathroom.

House Shot1

Wait for it…

April Fools

I know, I know, you were probably onto us. What tipped you off? Was it the ambient bowl light? The price tag? The Sunday post (darn you April Fool’s day for being on Sunday!). You guys know us too well.

Psst- Anyone else think it’s funny that a $4,600 toilet doesn’t qualify for free shipping?

Psssst- When it comes to April Fool’s jokes, they’re kind of a tradition around these parts. Here’s last year’s, the year before that, and the year before that.

    Haha! Got us!

These (including designer fridges) are incredibly popular in Japan-tokyo in particular. They have about 2x the number of things on the remote, except it is all in Japanese. So going to the bathroom and hitting the wrong button is always an adventure :D

LOL. I live in Korea right now and was totally going for this. All the toilets here are crazy awesome. They have a ton of buttons and heated seatage and “courtesy buttons” so you can hit it while in a public restroom and no one can tell what you’re doing…they must just assume that there is a gentle spring with birds tweeting in your stall. I’m still a little rusty on the Korean language, so one time I hit a button that I thought meant flush, but it was a retracting bidet wand and I got sprayed :/

Well, okay, who am I to argue with ambient bowl lighting? But then you said “I’ve always wanted an all-glass bathroom.” And then I thought waaaaait a minute! I’ve been had! Good one, y’all. I think it’s the beige color. We like our toilets sparkly white, and it never looks clean if that makes sense. It just looks sort of dingy all the time. And for the era of our house (which has two other white standard toilets) we think it’ll tie in better too!

You guys laugh, but when Bath Crashers came and remodeled our bathroom (for the DIY network), they put a toilet just like this in our new bath! There’s the cleaning- (front and rear), heated, automatic seat, blow dryer, even a pressure, position and temperature control of the “cleanse.” Surprisingly enough, its actually pretty fantastic. I’d go so far to say once you go swanky toilet, you never go back. (Except we’re way too cheap to ever spend $6k on a toilet!) My dad traveled a lot in Asia and had to have his own when they remodeled their bathroom. I’ve never tested out any of the controls (scares me!), but the heated seat is pretty nice, I have to admit.

You missed the biggest plus of that bowl – the straight (easy to clean) sides. Why do toilets have those weird turning piped shaped sides that make it a beast to clean – don’t tell me that there is some logical reason, I don’t care. Straight sides would be worth some extra cash – not $4600 though, I could pay someone to clean my toilets for quite a while with that amount of dough.

The pastor who married us is a successful businessman by day, and in his gracious home they have a crazy electronic self-heating self-open/closing toilet that learns your bathroom schedule and will warm before you arrive, and has a built in bi-directional bidet, all controlled by electronic push buttons. I have to say it is fun to visit but I wouldn’t want it in my house.

We live in Japan and actually have 2 fancy toilets in our house (not quite as fancy as this though). I have to say, I’m a big fan…the heated seat and bidet features are a nice little luxury. They may do more, but all of the writing is in Japanese, so we can’t read it/figure it out. The toilets in many of the airports even play music or water noises to be more…discreet. If they weren’t so expensive, it would be something that I’d definitely recommend it :)
