Fab Freebie: Schoolhouse Rocks
Time to give away more free stuff! And for this one we’re stepping back in time to do so. I’m talking about the truly old-school light fixtures made by Schoolhouse Electric.

We’ve always been big fans of their products, and even got to see a few fixtures in person when we house crashed Christi and Barrett in Charlotte (check out the pendants above their kitchen island). Schoolhouse Electric’s collection of pendants, sconces, shades and ceiling-mount lighting are a stylish throwback to several period styles (as well as some modern ones) that are made in true vintage fashion: their glass shades are both hand-blown and hand-painted.
So, on to the freebie part – we’re giving away one Otis 4 ceiling-mount fixture in satin nickel with an modern aqua shade (that’s an $162 value). Here’s a close-up of the beauty below:

To enter, comment on this post with the words “SCHOOL ME” and, for fun, why not tell us your favorite and/or least favorite subject in school while you’re at it (i.e “My favorite was definitely recess, but my least favorite had to be chemistry.“) As usual, there’s only one entry per e-mail address and, so sorry, but this giveaway is for the lower 48 US states only. We’re accepting entries ’til 8pm EST on Wednesday, Dec 10th and will announce the winner later in the week.
We can’t wait to see this fixture rocking the ceiling in one of your houses soon (you know we’re going to beg for pictures, right?). So go ahead, comment away!

SCHOOL ME, please! Architectural History was my favorite subject in school. My daughter’s recently renovated bathroom would be a perfect fit for this light! We had to work with uneven walls, lovely plaster and unsquare corners before we could get a lovely blue and white half bath. A new light would be the cherry on top!
SCHOOL ME. PLEASE.
Favorite = history, though ditto the woodshop.
Least favorite = calculus. Well I liked it but did not do that well in it.
As for sky-rocketing comments – I read your blog via google reader so I rarely hop through to the actual blog page. Wonder if this is the same for most people here. Thank you!
School me! Oh my goodness, school me. My favorite single class ever was British Literature. The teacher was incredible.
School me! My favorite subject was journalism and digital photography (which I skipped a lot, oddly) and my least favorite was foreign languages.
SCHOOL ME! My favorite class by far was Earth Science, really science in general. I liked it so much I teach it today. Least favorite was math.
School me, indeed. I’ve been lusting after this light fixture for some time. Right now we’ve got bare bulbs in the kitchen (not ideal…). Favorite? Contemporary american fiction or physiology. Least favorite? Calculus, fo sho’.
School me!
My favorite classes in high school were English (loved the Norton’s Anthologies) and AP calculus. My least favorite class was in college was dynamics!
School me! I loved Art, hated gym. Love this fixture & all Schoolhouse stuff. My sis-in-law just installed an authentic schoolhouse fixture in their hallway and it is fabulous!
School me
I absolutely love the light fixtures from this company…My favorite subjects were art and social studies…my least favorite subject was math….have a great day!
School me!
I drive by the Schoolhouse Electric building quite a bit, as a resident of Portland, OR, but never knew exactly what they sold. Now that I know, I’m excited by their cool products.
favorite subject: probably english classes.
Least favorite subject: I hated trigonometry and C++ computer programming more than anything.
SCHOOL ME!
Love the light! It would go perfectly in my 1940s era house! Oh, and my favorite subject was English/language arts and my least favorite was math. Blech.
School Me!
My most favorite subject was music, hands down. Although, for being a clumsy and awkward little girl, I secretly enjoyed P.E. too! My least favorite subject was undoubtedly math.
P.S. I love the site! Keep the inspiration coming!
School me! I LOVE those gorgeous period lights!
My favorite subject was always some form for the social sciences – history, social studies, political science. Least favorite: math.
Ding, ding, ding! I’m virtually ringing the bell to mark the end of the school day, er, voting period. Love that you’re lovin’ this fixture as much as we are. And we can’t wait to announce our winner tomorrow.
For now, we’ll join the comment party and tell your our fav and least fav subjects in school:
Sherry’s favorite was art (she once dreamed of becoming a high school art teacher), and she definitely could’ve done without math (much to her math teacher father’s chagrin).
I, on the other hand, liked math because I was pretty good with numbers. But I’d say my creative writing classes were my absolute favs. And like my example in the post, I absolutely loathed chemistry. I still have periodic nightmares about it (chemistry pun intended).
’til tomorrow,
John

School me! This would look awesome in my vintage looking kitchen. I have those terrible huge 1970’s florecent lights currently. Complete with popcorn (sparkly) ceiling. The big joke is we paid extra for the sparkles!! My favorite subject was art, and I HATED math. I still do!!
