Target Pillows: Purloined

You heard it here first. “Purloined” is the new “snagged.” Just kidding. I’m just being weird. John didn’t even know what it meant when he walked by and saw the title. “What the.. purloined?… are you sure that’s a word?” was his exact response. Which is exactly what I’m going for. Not. Yes, I’m bringing back “not” too. I’m in a strange mood. Anyway, we’re still working on a few different projects today (details soon!), but we figured we’d pop in and share what we recently snagged purloined at Tar-hay (btw, Tar-hay is the new Tar-jay):

Target Pillows Full

Ok, so purloined might mean “get by any means necessary” or “steal” – but we paid for them like good law abiding citizens. I couldn’t pass up these patterned gray velvet pillows for Karl. At $24 a pop (well, plus 5% off that since I used my trusty Tar-hay card) they’re not insanely cheap (like my $2.50 pillow from Bed Bath & Beyond) but they’re nice and big (around 18″). And the velvety texture and pattern feel a lot more high end than the usual big-box store purchase (nothing piddly and cheap looking will do for our new family member sectional). So I choose to think of them as around $75 cheaper than the big textured ones I drool over at places like Restoration Hardware or Williams Sonoma Home. Glass half full, style.

Target Pillows Close Up

Of course we’ll add in some serious color too with some other pillows, art, curtains- etc. Don’t want a big gray room with nothing but a gray sectional and gray pillows. The reason I liked the textured gray tone on tone look was because I thought they would layer in with other pops of colors and even other more obvious high-contrast prints for something that’s not too crazy but just interesting enough. Can’t wait to see them sitting on The American Dream when it arrives (yes that’s Karl’s other nickname). If not we’ll just return them. No harm, no fowl.

Psst:  “No harm, no fowl” is the new “no harm, no foul.” Spread the word.

Psssst: Did I mention I’m in a weird mood?

Love your pillows! I’ve been looking at pillows with a gray graphic look at Serina and Lily and they are pricey. I hope to run out and nab some soon at my Target! :)

I love clues!! I’m wondering right now…fireplace?? No HVAC? Oooo or could this be like a trick clue where what you’re really referring to is hot colors like orange and red? Ok I know you can’t answer probably any of those questions because you don’t want to spoil the surprise but is this something you’ll be able to post about soonish (this week) or laterish like next month?

Your bed is secret #2: Cozy up the Walls and Floors. After my husband was purloined out of his cubicle for a staff meeting many years ago, it became his favorite word. One lazy Saturday when I put my hair into a ponytail he said, “Hey, you purloined your hair into a pleasing style!” When I needed him to hold the baby so I could do something he said, “I guess I’m on purloining duty.”

Just throwing that out there, to confuse people even more. Since these usages (save the first, sort of) have nothing to do with the actual definition.

I was cutting up some navel oranges the other day and the flesh was pink! I was so confused and checked the bag to make sure I hadn’t accidentally purchased mini grapefruit or something and right there on the bag it claimed, “Pink is the new orange!” I died laughing. This post was almost that good. (:

I’m a frequent lurker but have never posted… this made me laugh though – “purloined” always makes me think of a song from Rent, sung by the character Tom Collins. As in, “They purloined my coat…” after he gets mugged on the street and someone steals his coat.

I think your purloining was more legal today, good job. :)

And keep up the awesomeness – love your blog, and Clara is adorable!

I think some lime green or orange might look really punchy with Karl. Or navy if you want to keep it subdued.

The pillows remind me of japanese mums or fireworks. I use a great damask tablecloth as a curtain ( just like you with clips!) It has mums on it and from far it away the mums look like polka dots!

For those of you wondering the Target Debit Card gives you the 5% off everyday as well – and it links directly to your checking account so you don’t need to maintain a separate one. It’s fantastic – you can’t use it on the website yet, but the rumor mill says they’re making an upgrade for fall of this year! LOVE IT!!!

Not trying to jump the gun, but I know a couple who just moved into a new place and haven’t found much by the way of craigslist. This couple may or may not include me and my husband.

Not sure if anybody has asked this question already, but are the covers on the pillows zip covers? I try to stick with zip covers because if I ever get tired of the cover…I simply take it off and reuse the pillow with another cover. Then, when the time or season is right, I bring back the originals. It kinda helps me justify spending a little more on pillows…don’t judge! :)
