This week marked our 1 year anniversary of moving into this house. So to celebrate that milestone (while we work on an office update to share on Monday) we thought we’d drop some infographics up in hizzere. YE-AH, BOY! As an homage to this stat-tastic “before” post, we picked out some fun facts and figures from the last 12 months-ish (and we dropped a preview of our in-progress office project in there for good measure).
For a more all-inclusive rundown of the progress we’ve made over the last year, complete with before & after photos and links to each project, you can check out our (freshly updated!) House Tour page.
Or if you’re in the mood for more Teddy, we just added his 7 week photo. The boy won’t stop growing.
Hands down, my favorite post this year :-). I wish I could click the pics so I can refer back to the posts… but I’m not complaining… Good job, guys. I especially love the pic of the most blessed project of 2014 <3
Love the Iggy reference…so fancy indeed :) Congrats on accomplishing so much! The door and ceiling infographics are my fave! Happy one year!
It is ridiculous how fast they grow! He is becoming a little dude! I can’t believe it has already been a year. It is really a pleasure to watch you all work and grow as a family. Thank you for sharing yourselves with all of us!
I love these!! Iggy’s appearance=hilarious! And I about cried when I scrolled down to Teddy’s picture. Precious. Love it.
The infographics are one of my favorite things on your blog. It’s amazing how much you’ve accomplished in a year. What’s the font for “AND NEW FAMILY MEMBER”?
Thanks Ashley! It’s called “Thin Design”

Aww…Teddy looks adorable in this photo!!
Can’t believe I’m typing this, but those switch and outlet covers look very artsy in that photo and kind of… cool. You should totally do something crafty with them! I loved this post. You guys are funny.
I thought the same thing! Such unique-ness in the wallpapers. I second the motion for a crafty outlet cover display :)
Yes! :-) Put them in a frame as a testament to how much work you’ve done. Love this post — all of these things and you grew a new person. Amazing. Happy housiversary.
I love these updates!! It’s amazing what y’all have accomplished in a year :)
We just moved in a few weeks ago to our new joint, and it’s also rocking some serious wallpaper action ;) Here are some of the before shots: http://lemongroveblog.com/big-bad-list/
Aw I love this post – and Teddy at the end make me smile.
: )
Best change yet!
Can’t believe it’s been a year. I think you’re doing a great job I really love your house.
I’ve been in this old farm house for 7 years now and I can’t wait to leave and start fresh! LOL

I just love these posts–so cute, so well put together, so the essence of you guys! Despite being slightly sad that you’ve scaled back, for solely greedy and selfish reasons of loving your blog so much, you guys are doing life right, and I love it! Thanks for all that you do!
Thanks so much Claire!
xo
s
I totally agree with you, Claire!!
Everything is looking great at the house and Teddy is so cute!! Growing like a weed! :O)
Wait, blue tailed skink? Did you tell us about that? Also, I had never noticed how complementary all those wallpapers were. Terrible, but very complementary. :)
The skink was a recent adventure we had yet to mention. Ran in the living room door that was cracked for Burger to get out on the deck and dashed into our half bathroom. Clara thought it was the BEST THING EVER.
xo
s
Wow, how exciting. Not! LOL! So glad Clara is into that type of thing instead of getting all squeamish about it.
Pet stores around here will actually pay you $50 for a skink
NO WAY!
xo
s
My parents live nearby and they have TONS of those lizards! I never knew the proper name for them, very cool!
When I was a kid we had one summer/fall where skinks would dart through the front door and into the house. We had to set up glue traps (which my younger brother routinely got stuck in) and at one point I managed to scoop one in a bucket with a dust pan. Quite the adventure! They figured out a bit later that the skinks were coming in because of termites and ants that had occupied the spaces damaged by termites. If it happens again you might want to make sure there isn’t something in there they are after!
Thanks Sarah! This one was just running away from Burger out back, and took a wrong turn I think!

A whole year already! And you’ve done so much work since then – things are looking great. Can’t wait to see what you’re doing in the office. Going to go look at Teddy’s photos right now – so cute! Great job you guys.
Teddy is precious! And skinks are NOT! I lived in a sublet for 3 weeks (alone) with just an air mattress and discovered those creepy little buggers.
Your infographic posts are always my favorite! You guys are so gifted and fun! You make adorable babies, too! :)
The Iggy Azalea cameo is a nice touch!
Phew! That was one busy year! Question for you in regards to how you displayed your paint colors? Was that in photoshop? I am trying to get an idea of my paint colors in our home and I think it would help to list them like you did. Also…looking forward to you second book annoucement..will that be this year too? (how do you all do it?!)
Thanks Cappy. We’re still shooting and writing the book, so our best guess is that it won’t be out until 2015/2016. Books take forever! As for the colors, that was just photoshop (I took screen grabs of the colors on the BM website and cut strips of them out and tiled them that way, adding labels at the end).
-John
opps sorry for the grammatical errors/misspellings…I am at work being sneaky ;0)
Wow! You guys moved to this house just a few months after we moved into our first house and seeing everything you’ve accomplished in a year makes me really want to get on our to-do list! (Of course, I’m giving myself a little break since we were planning a wedding during this past year too, but still- want to get out of wedding-mode and back into house-mode!)
Plus, as a graphic designer…. I LOVE THE INFOGRAPHICS! They keep getting better and better, keep ’em coming!
Well done – what a fun post!
Am I mistaken, or is their one ceiling missing here? What about the bathroom ceiling update?
This was such a fun post! It’s fun to look back and see how much you’ve accomplished in a year! We just hit our one year milestone in our new house too and while it feels like we’ve got so much still to do, it’s fun to look back and realize how far you’ve come!
You’re right about the bathroom ceiling! Dang. I knew we’d forget something!
xo
s
Fixed it! Thanks for the catch!
-John
Amazing transformations! Especially the wallpaper and something blue!
Wow, what happened with the visit from the police, based on a balloon?
We were out and we got a call on our phone about our alarm going off and they asked if we were at home or were expecting anyone. We weren’t, so they said “should we respond and send police?” and we said “Yes!” Then we raced home and realized a balloon had drifted into an area that has a motion alarm, so it was a case of the phantom balloon thief. Thankfully the officer understood and we all had a good laugh. Now we know not to let those drift around when the motion alarm is on!
xo
s
Your balloon. Is wearing. A Hamburglar mask.
He’s shady. Look out for him.

Love this!! We just moved into our first house (yay!) and this would be a fun idea for a yearly update on the house-aversary ;-) Congrats guys on so much progress!
I can’t believe a year has passed. Time flies!
From the house tour I really love all your mirrors, beside all the other nice stuff ofcourse.
And Teddy, he sure gets bigger every week!
Am I the only one who wanted to sing these graphics to the tune of 12 Days of Christmas?
AND A PARTRIDGE IN A PEAR TREE!
LOL, Lauren! I was doing the same thing! :)
Wow!!! I can’t believe it’s already been a year! You guys are amazing with everything you’ve accomplished this year. And Teddy is just too cute for words! Happy one year!
One of my favorite posts! Wow you guys have come a long way in a year! Loved the Teddy pic at the end, so sweet!
Love the colored doors and ceilings! So funny how reluctant we all are to doing things like that.
Also, that new family member is pretty darn cute.
I never thought I’d enjoy some infographics so much! :)
Anyway, I think you missed the master bathroom in the spiced up ceilings. That job was pretty awesome!
Yes, we missed that one! We stared at things late last night saying “I know we’re missing something…”
xo
s
Fixed it! Thanks!
-John
Love it! Although as I was looking through all of the infographics I couldn’t help but think that it could be redone as a cover for the “12 Days of Christmas”….maybe instead it could be the “365 Days of Renovation”? ;)
Or, better yet, the “12 Months of Renovation”. This is what happens when I post a comment without having caffeine beforehand, haha.
how come the police visit didn’t warrant a post? it would’ve been a really arresting read. seriously though, did the balloon get taken into custody or put on lockdown? all those puns….couldn’t be helped.
and I’m missing the shaming info graphic about how many frames you HAVEN”T hung up. not enough fingers and toes in the da house to count that one huh? I do hope you are better than me and don’t leave a box of them sitting at the bottom of the stairs for almost four years now. Have higher standards.
Hilarious! The balloon was laughed at heartily, but no arrests were made. As for the frames they’re ALL OVER our storage room’s floor upstairs. We have high hopes of organizing that in year two. Although we originally planned that task a few months after moving in so we’ll have to see…
xo
s
HAHA the police. Oh goodness. I can only imagine. Thank’s for the Thursday morning laugh!
Can you pin to the side Teddy’s photo project like you did Clara’s so it is easier to find?
We have Teddy’s photo project button on the sidebar right above hers. If you don’t see it maybe you have some ad blocking software that is accidentally blocking that button? That seems to happen sometimes.
xo
s
Sorry don’t know how I missed it!
No worries!
xo
s
I love da recaps, yo! I’ll have to go back and see if you guys did anything with the removed compactor space. I just saw an update last night where a lady put in a ‘beverage cooler’ in that space if you don’t already have something there. Our would probably have bottles of faux wine, ‘craft’ sodas and water because we’re exotic like that.
Fun post! Have to say my favorite was the visit from the police!!
Last year a co-worker was out of the office for a month due to surgery. In her chair sat a 3′ mylar Minnie Mouse balloon. Nearly every time I turned around, Minnie was staring me down. Definitely watch out for those mylar balloons ;) Glad to hear your alarm sensors work though! ;)
THEY MASQUERADE AS PEOPLE, I TELL YOU!
xo
s
The 3′ Elmo balloon has definitely scared the mess out of me more than once. So impressed with all you’ve accomplished in such a short amount of time. Have a great weekend!
Wow, how time flies and how quickly you get things done! What an awesome post. Nicely done!
Now I have flavor flav’s voice in my head from your “yeah boi”. I was shocked by how many frames you have hung up, then I started counting and realized I have a framing problem. One too many gallery walls in my house. I love your breakdown of the year. Maybe a little bit of boring will come your way, you know no police visits or wild animals in the house ;)
Ahh! I love this post!! This 7-week photo is probably my favorite of him. :)
Oh, and John, this is the COOLEST infographic EVER! It must have taken a while! I also loveeee the fonts used!
What do you think is your favorite wall color for the house?
Sarah

That’s tough! I think we really are loving Palest Pistachio and Sparrow. Maybe because they’re the newest so they feel especially novel?
xo
s
Wow! It has been quite a year. So happy for all your successes and new additions:)
Oh my gosh, how cute! See, this is an example of why I love this blog!
PS- do you have a Pinterest account? Wanted to follow b/c I am a total Pin- head!
Beautiful family!

Hi guys, I was wondering if you could go into your process of choosing paint colors a little bit. I know you tend to review your choosing process for the individual room when you do the reveal for each room, but I was wondering about the fact that you have several light blues (palest pistachio, nelson blue, in your eyes, spring mint, tranquil), and several tan/gray tones (edgecomb gray, senora gray, sparrow, revere pewter, going to the chapel, gargoyle, etc…) in different rooms. When/why do you choose to use the same color vs. a different but similar color of paint? Thanks so much!
In spaces that connect (like our foyer which leads to the stairs and the upstairs hallway) we tend to use all the same color, but for spaces that aren’t connected we might consider an existing color from our palette while also holding up different swatches. Sometimes in different lighting scenarios we like other things better, so our palette expands, but we try to look at every color together (just by laying the swatches out on the table) to make sure we think they look ok together.

Is it okay to say that John keeps getting hotter with every new house y’all work on? I mean, these updates are great, but with those glasses and that scruff, John is kinda smokin’!
Don’t worry. I’m in another state so there’s no chance of any creepers trying to make any moves. Just wanted to express some appreciation!
Rach
Agreed. John is like a fine wine. Gets better with age.
xo

Dang John, people are “appreciating” you ifyaknowwhatImean… Might be time to get your run on to stay fit for your fan club bahahahaha. Rach! yours is the best. comment. ever.
I. Love. This.
A lot.
I can’t believe it’s already been a year! LOVE this post, especially the part about the police! Y’all (Alabama girl here) are amazing!
LOVE the infographic posts! thanks for letting John get his nerdy side in! (hoping that Teddy will be super into superheroes and other nerdy things, too!) i really enjoy the photoshopping that you guys do for these, they’re always so much fun!
i did spot a typo in your first info pic: “cindo de mayo” is probably supposed to be “cinco de mayo”. i don’t think anyone would blame you if you left it alone though. (is that even possible now that i’ve pointed it out? SORRY!)
enjoy your weekend! (assuming i don’t see a post tomorrow)
Ack, thanks Amy!
xo

Oh. my.
My goodness!! Just look at Teddy!!! Could he be more perfect?!?
no, he absolutely could not.
You guys are such great record keepers…maybe I should say statisticians. The best stat this year is the new addition to the family. Congratulations on your one year anniversary and all you have accomplished.
I especially love those spied up ceilings — congrats you two, can’t wait to see what’s next!

The info-graphics are always my favorite! Crazy to look back and see how much you’ve accomplished in the last year!!
Since you just linked to it and it had been updated, I have to tell you that the word “veranda” is misspelled on your house tour page. Sorry to be “that guy”. I say it with love. :)
Thanks Jennifer!

What a fantastic update!! You crack me up with the mylar balloon with the bandit mask :) :) Many blessings for many more happy years to come in your home.
