An Inspired & Inexpensive House Tour

After Jordan and Landon shared their amazingly affordable (and drop dead gorgeous) kitchen overhaul with us (here), we definitely were left wanting more. So when they offered up the opportunity to House Crash them, we said “uh… yes please.” And we figured since it’s their house they’d be the best at showing you around, so we’re passing the virtual mic over to them for the tour while we clean our house within an inch of it’s life in an effort to woo a few more potential buyers this weekend (fingers crossed). Enjoy the tour!

Welcome to our home in Columbia, South Carolina! We’re Jordan & Landon from landonjacob.com.

Jordan Landon Front

You’ve already seen the kitchen (here), but we’ll share that pic again, just to refresh your memory:

Jordan Kitchen 1

This is our dining room. The wine bottles come from one of our favorite wedding venues that we shoot at often! We had them hold the bottles for us (and we bought a bottle cutter on eBay).

Jordan Dining 4

That’s actually a DIYed mirror leaning against the wall. We bought mirrored closet doors on Craigslist for $40 for the pair and then found an old weathered pallet, took it apart, and made two mirrors (one for in here and one for the hallway).

Jordan Dining 5

Our dining table is an amazing thrift store find that people ooh and ahh over. It was just 10 bucks! The chairs and bench were bought at a yard sale, and the ottoman was a throw out item from a friend.

Next we have our living room:

Jordan Living 2

As you can see above, Landon made two frames out of more pallets. We really love that rustic wood (its kinda all over the house). We made that ottoman which was actually inspired by Kara’s DIY ottoman that you shared!

Jordan Living 3

Oh and that old wine bottle crate in the foreground works as an awesome magazine holder. We also love our little DIY end tables which we made from vintage suitcases on legs. We also like those hanging baskets from Ikea on the wall next to the sofa (it was actually an idea we stole from the ikea catalog). The doors on the wall above the bookcases are original doors from the home, so we wanted to incorporate them into the room.

Next we have our bedroom, where we added the beadboard wainscotting ourselves and hung a bunch of inexpensive frames that I sprayed white on the wall in a group.

Jordan Guest Room 9

And here’s our bathroom. Can you tell we have a think for big mirrors? We love how they open things up and make rooms feel lighter and bigger.

Jordan Bathroom 11

This is our awesome little hallway! Its my favorite space in the house! Its about the size of our other rooms! The chairs were thrifted for $40 and we recovered them. That’s also the second homemade mirror that we made with the mirrored doors from Craigslist and the weathered wood pallet. We also grabbed that lotus light fixture from Ikea.

Jordan Hallway 7

This is our office / crafts room. We thrifted that awesome craft table for 5 bucks. We also love instruments (we love music around here since my dad was a musician, and Landon is one as well… I sing, but technically that’s not a musician). Anyway I love how the blue guitar fits so perfectly in this room and that it gets to be a piece of art on the wall.

Jordan Office 8

This is the spare bedroom. We found the bed on Craigslist and I bought those awesome orange curtains for about $1.50 at Goodwill!

Jordan Master 10

This is our spare bathroom that we just finished off! It was a huge mess before! It’s so very tiny, so its kinda hard to show off in pictures, but I tried! That is your sink and faucet by the way (I was inspired by your bathroom overhaul) so we ordered them and added them to an antique wash stand that we found! And of course we have another huge mirror, but it really makes this bathroom feel so much bigger!

Jordan Half Bath 6

Ok, so that’s our house. Thanks so much for sharing it! – Jordan & Landon

So who’s jealous? Our hands are officially raised. Thanks so much to Jordan and Landon for sharing their home and all of their affordable DIY ideas. We’re sufficiently inspired. What was your favorite part everyone?

Just posted this on the other thread, too. Need advice:
We are doing a major full-house remodel including the kitchen. It will be completely open to the living room (one big room really). We are putting wood floor down in the entire space to make it seemless, but just realized a potential snag: we were planning on light birch cabinets in the kitchen. Will that be too much wood tone on wood tone? I like the look of your white cabinets, but we just took out some horrible white melamine cabinets (I know, different story) that showed all kinds of dirt. We swore we would NOT have white cabinets again. Any ideas? Thanks!

Does anyone have ideas for Kim? We love white cabs with wood floors ourselves, but we also have seen wood cabinets and wood floors that look great as long as they’re not too matchy matchy!

One more question, please! Where are the window treatments from? It looks like they have used the same basic white ones throughout the house. I am going on three years with nothing on my windows (much to the husbands dismay) and I think that may be just what I’ve been looking for! What a beautiful home!!!

My husband and I just recently installed butcher block countertops in our kitchen. We put three coats of waterlox on it, and it is totally water repellent. I was wondering what they used on their counters. I also love the color scheme of paint they used throughout the house.

To try and help out kim, i think if the wood on the cabinets and floor contrasts enough (light wood on cabinets darker on the floor) could look amazing with the right wall color and lighting~ I am a fan of the way houses look with white cabinets, but have not mastered living with white and keeping them clean! haha

So excited to hear feedback on the lotus light from ikea~ we bought one for above our kitchen table and have still been debating~ thanks for the help all!

I am loving the black and white floor tile you used in your small bathroom. I am currently renovating a 1940’s era Cape Cod, and the bathroom is the last major job remaining. I have been looking for floor tile ideas for quite some time now, and want something simple, classic, and in keeping with the style of the house. I have seen this tile used in other renovations, but it has always been pictured in much larger bathrooms, leading me to wonder if it might be too busy-looking for my tiny room. (Seriously, I can stand in the center of the room, stretch my arms out, and touch the side walls.) Thanks to the photograph of your re-do, I can see that it also looks great in smaller spaces. Choosing floor tile can now be crossed off my never-ending list of things to do!

Hey Jordan! Your house is tdf! Great job on everything!

Quick question about the shelf ledge over your living room sofa: Is it the Ribba picture ledge from Ikea? Approx how high above the couch did you hang it?

    Thanks!

I have to say – Jordan and Landon had me at the front door! And, if they would not mind sharing, what is the paint color they used? It’s so pretty and perhaps perfect for one of my projects. Thanks!

Thanks Katie! We were thinking that the floors would be a bit darker for contrast. With 2 pre-teens, white is just a constant battle. And we like the warm look that wood can bring to a room. We would still love to hear any ideas out there!

For Kim- My son’s townhouse has light maple cabinets, and a med tone oak floor. He had a cream counter top and it looked fine. After he moved out, the new owners put in a granite countertop in a mix of light brown tones and it REALLY pulled everything together. The best part is it is still neutral and you can go several different directions with colors for accessories.I think as long as the floor is slightly different in shade to the cabinets it will look great!

Pallets can be toxic to your health! They are full of chemicals. Google it and you will find out NEVER use pallets in your home! This is one example http://www.poetichome.com/2010/08/30/toxic-exposure-the-danger-of-repurposing-pallets/

      Hey Janine,

Thanks for sharing that warning. Hopefully people who want to use them can seal them with some green product like Safecoat poly (which can also be used to seal in lead or other toxins for a healthy and safe home).

Hi, you both have a beautiful home and i hope I’m not asking a question already answered,(I tried to go through the comments first). First where did the stool/bench/seat in the master bath come from? LOVE IT! The next was about the GREAT pallet mirror, most pallets I have seen are not big enough for the length of the mirror, so did you just butt or miter end to end even on the sides not just at the corners? (hope that makes sense) Thanks in advance for reading cause I see you got ALOT of comments, but, it seems like a great compliment!

And Il try and explain the steps to making the suitcase tables. All we did was pick out our suitcase and 4 legs ( we had from old end tables we weren’t using anymore) and we just screwed 4 screws, one into each leg through the inside of the suitcase! It was pretty easy! Hope that makes sense!
