An Easy DIY Christmas Card Idea

With family arriving tonight for our first ever Christmas in Richmond, we wanted to be sure we shared our holiday card with you guys first (you know we love ya like family). We couldn’t do this little blog-thang (look at me getting all twangy) without you. And we sincerely appreciate you for dropping in on us.

2011 Petersik Holiday Card

We shot this earlier in the month with the help of a bunch of ribbon snagged on clearance from Michael’s last Christmas (some of which later ended up on our tree). It’s actually two pictures photoshopped together, since getting Clara and Burger to sit still that close to one another without doing something weird (like synchronized diaper sniffing/tail grabbing) is beyond unrealistic. You can actually see a bunch of outtakes over on Young House Life today. Like this one we like to call “The Peeper.”

Holiday Card Hiding

We hope everyone has a fun/joy/family/food/relaxation-filled holiday weekend! And although we figure many of you will be busy with miscellaneous chaos over the upcoming week between Christmas and New Year’s, we’ll still be dropping in with a quick post every day from Monday through Friday for ya (and yes – we hope to have some cabinet priming/painting peeks for you guys with a big reveal sometime around the first week of January if all goes well).

We just found out that we have a big book deadline of January 4th too (the entire final manuscript is due- yikes!!!) so at any point if you’re wondering what we’re up to, you can probably count on us to be holding a paint brush, a laptop, a toddler, a chihuahua, or a cookie covered in sprinkles. And maybe a few of those things at once (let’s find out if I can eat a cookie while priming, shall we?). Happy holidays to every last one of ya!

Update: You can check out all of our favorite holiday decor finds here – many of which are under $15!

A merry Christmas to you Glædelig jul in Danish.
I have a question: Where do you keep your books? I know that you a very busy folks, but anyway toy strike me as the kind of peolpe that would read a novel once in a while, and yet I can´t find a bookshelf in your housetour? Have I missed it, or do you hide your books?

We actually keep a ton of them in the built-ins in the dining room (the cabinets under the open shelves are packed) and the two ottomans under the console table in the hallway with all the frames also have lots of our favorite book in them. We do try to borrow books from friends or the library if we’re only going to read them once so we don’t have to store every book we’ve ever read in the house, since that can get overwhelming!

Have a very merry Christmas! The card is adorable :-) Hope you have a wonderful time with your loved ones…and the kitchen cabinets…and pots of paint ;-) A couple of years ago we started ripping out our old bathroom to start a complete remodel on Christmas Day; not quite sure what made us do but it sure was a memorable Christmas!x

I just discovered your website and I LOVE it! I needed to know how to fix the paint on the kid kitchen I tried making for my kids for Christmas, and thanks to your posts, I’ve been re-sanding it down to re-paint it! I am so excited to fix it now! Thank you!

Merry Christmas guys! The kids are sooo cute. I hope Clara’s “ribbon love” never dies. I know mine hasn’t. Lol. I LOVE your blog, and have been stalking, er, reading…casually browsing… since I found you guys a few months ago. I’ve actually got the courage up to try a few things myself now. :) Thanks for the inspirations and laughs guys. Good luck with the book! :)

    Hi there, Sherry & John!

Thank you for writing YHL, a place on the internet filled with laughter, winks, pics of a cute dog and the cutest girl, and two people working really hard.

I really enjoy reading you, and occasionally I take a hint or two on how to keep and/or repair and/or decorate my home.

May 2012 be an awesome year for you and your loved ones. Love from Uruguay,
    Julia

Hi there, I’m looking back through your old posts to find what software/program you used to create your Christmas cards. I thought I remembered you designing them yourself in Photoshop and then uploading to some site that allows you to use your own design … and then print locally. Maybe that was a different invite/project I’m thinking of, or I’m making it up completely?

Yes, we used Winkflash last year (we just printed our photographed/photoshopped card using them without any borders or words being added on top).
