Fun Friday Departure: Costume Chitchat

With Halloween finally upon us we’re wondering if you guys plan to host parties, attend them, attend them in costume or just answer the door and shove fistfulls of Butterfingers at the three-foot-tall ghosts and goblins ringing your bell. Something about Halloween is especially intriguing to us this year. Maybe because it’s sort of a before and after fest when it comes to your house (our porch and our living room had a little spooky makeover) and even when it comes to yourself (if you’re dressing up there’s a definite transformation that takes place). So tell us all about who or what you’ll be for the night (any Jon & Kate Plus 8s? Or how about those cute kids from the movie Juno?) along with what kind of parties you’re hosting or attending, and most of all, what your kiddos (four-legged or two) are dressing up as. There have been many (many) requests for photos of Burger in his costume so without further ado we present to you… Hamburger the hot dog:

burger-hot-dog1

We picked up this little ditty to the tune of $9.99 at Target. And two out of three Petersiks were super excited about the purchase.

If Burger had his way he’d wear it like this…

Ah! Cutie-patotie Burger! He looks so scrumptious, and yet so contradictory. My hubby and I only have non-trick-or-treating children, so no extra free candy in this house. We are going hiking instead, and hoping no black cats cross our path!

Hahaha! I looove Burger’s costume– too cute! I wish my beagle would let me dress him up :(

I’m dressed as a pimp– purple suede hat, lots of “gold” necklaces and a $ sign “gold” ring, shiny shirt underneath my slick suit, feather boa, and of course, a pimp cane covered in zebra material with a disco ball top! I’m dressed like this at my job, and I’m a female attorney. Fun times!

Funny – you say “finally,” I say ALREADY?!?!

We have no major plans, just taking my boys Super WHY (aka 4-y.o. Fletcher) and Davy Crockett (aka 2-y.o. Cormac) Trick-or-Treating.

We attended a Halloween/Harvest/Birthday party for my 3-y.o. niece last weekend. Pumpkin painting, Trick-or-Treat Train, hay ride…

We buy a dog costume for my parent’s dog every year. Augie is a happy Bichon who loves all the doorbell-ringing on Halloween. He generally does not care for his costume much, though.

Our best for him: a red fire hydrant (also from Target)

His expression in all the Halloween pics is very similar to Burger’s mug. “What did I do to deserve this?”

Happy Halloween Eve! We have decided against dressing our dog Nimbus up in a costume because he will eat the costume. Guaranteed. As far as the humans in this family are concerned, we’re having friends over for dinner – dressing up of course! – and hitting a Halloween fiesta nextdoor. We’re also going to hand out candy to trick-or-treaters. I’m going to dress up as Aphrodite & my husband is going to be the Swine Flu… black wings, black robes, and a pig snout!

But today, my co-worker and I dressed up as a couple costume as well – she is a pig and I am a doctor… except that when you put us together (as long as I am wearing my surgical mask to cover my nose and mouth), we are Swine Flu! Pretty clever, we thought. (Unless that offends you… then we are just a pig and a doctor!!)

Our neighborhood has an annual chili cookoff for Halloween every year. Everyone brings their own fave pot of homemade chili to share and costumes are a must. 4yr old Layne will be dressed as a knight. Hubby Steve, 18mo old Everett and I will be white trash family. Hubby tried on his costume last night and I didn’t even recognize him. Go figure, 18mo old got a leg cast today (it’s been a loooong day) that will fit in nicely with his costume!

My 5 year old boy loved “Where the Wild Things Are” movie, and we got him a custom made wolf suit from etsy, so he is going to be “MAX” and my former hot dog is going as princess Jasmine.

Our neighborhood does trick or treat on Halloween proper every year. People go all out; there is a guy down the street who has built a haunted pirate ship in his yard.

The hubster is going to be the swine flu and hand out the candy. I sit in the living room and watch–get to see all the kids in costume, and see them being scared as he jumps out to give them candy. Should be a fun night.

    Happy Halloween! Cute photos!

We are handing out candy to the trick-or-treaters and then co-hosting a party with another couple. I’m dressing up as Flo from the Progressive Insurance commericals, and my boyfriend is donning a blue button up in honor of the late Billy Mays.

Our dogs have costumes as well, but since they are both 80 lb + yellow labs, we have to look for alternatives to the store costumes. Seagram, our five-year old yellow lab is going to rock a red bandana and be the “sheriff” and Yukon, our 10-month old yellow lab is going to be the bandit in a black bandana.

We used the Better Homes and Gardens template you mentioned earlier to carve one Labrador Retriever pumpkin. =) Thanks for the tip!

It looks like it might rain for Halloween but we’ll still be dressing up. Hopefully the rain will hold off for trick-or-treating. Not sure if my husband with be dressing up but my son is going as Batman, my daughter will be a lion and I’ll be getting out my wedding dress that has been collecting dust in the closet and use it as a princess costume. I did this last year and had a blast wearing it again. The neighbours thought it was a great idea and all the kiddies love it!

Here’s a picture from Halloween last year of me in my wedding dress/princess costume with the kids…

Pumpkin carving party with some peeps tonight. Tomorrow is our first Halloween in the house, so we’re staying in and hoping for a big turnout. Didn’t have the time and energy for much more than a graveyard theme in the front yard, but it is *beautifully* lit because the hubs used to do theatrical lighting. He also made a spectre that scares the bedoodle out of me in the *daytime,* so I can’t wait for tomorrow night! No costumes though – it’s tricky enough going up and down our stairs.

My son is 3 and picked his own costume for the first time this year. My husband took him shopping, and I think if I went, the result would have been different. Anyway, he’s goign to be Darth Vadar. Ugh. He’s been walking around perfecting that whole “I am your father” thing for weeks. He told me this morning that he can’t wait to be Darth Vadar so he can “get all the bad guys”. I don’t have the heart to tell him he is the bad guy:(

omg u have no idea how much I love Halloween! Like if I had to pick one “holiday” to relive over and over (like groundhog day!) it would totally be Halloween.

Imagine how sad I am now that we just moved into our new house in late August and have taken this long to refinish the wood floors and put furniture on it! not bad enough that we were sleeping on the floor….but GASP I didn’t get to decorate! Even worse I didn’t get to throw the Halloween party I wanted!! And I can’t believe none of my friends are throwing a bash! so sad.

So you can bet that next year I will go all out. For now I will just have to settle for dressing our Dachshund up like a Dinosaur or Dragon whatever he is – and hoping that we get some trick-or-treaters at the door. (I’ve never had a trick-or-treater…I wonder what its like?)

It is so fun and wonderful to let the kids walk around in their actual costume and not a costume underneath all the snow gear. Good ol’ Alaska.. such unpredictable weather.

I’m at work, dressed as a gold digger. I have a little gold shovel on a necklace and a gold sparkly ensemble. Although, still normal enough for work. Tonight and tomorrow we’re finally putting on our annual haunted house. It’s taken up my friend’s backyard and is actually very professional looking, despite the low budget non-pros working on it. :) There’s a padded wall room with bouncy floor, morgue with dead bodies, a bedroom with a possessed person and of course the butcher shop, with the butcher and his (chainless) chainsaw. People usually run out screaming at this point, if they haven’t already. If you were in Northern California, I’d invite you. Maybe next time.
