Fab Freebie: Young Horse Love

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

This week we’re giving away a totally customized painting from a special group of artists. Wanna meet ’em? Allow us to introduce Blitz, Minnow, and Boomer: the artists in residence at Painting Pony. Yes, I said artists.

Ponies Artists

If the paintbrushes in their mouths weren’t proof enough that these Chincoteague Ponies know their way around a canvas (I know, I was a bit skeptical at first too), just check out the colorful artwork they create with the help of their trainer Kyley DiLuigi.

Ponies Painting Collage

Not only do they create one-of-a-kind pieces (with a unique backstory, no less) they also let you add some input about the painting before it’s made, so it’s sure to complement your home. You get to pick the background color and up to four paint colors to be used AND you get to choose which four-legged artist creates it. Kyley also throws in a CD with photos and/or video of it being whipped up.

Ponies Horse To House

If you wanna see these artsy horses in action there’s a video of the painting process (as well as other tricks) on the Painting Pony website. Oh, and be sure to check out their rockstar Dachshund sidekick Ammo. Burger so wants to meet him someday.

Now on to the details for the prize (and stay tuned for another special offer on Thursday):

  • PRIZE: A custom 16″ x 20″ canvas by Painting Pony as described in this Etsy listing.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “PONY UP” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …since this week’s prize is all about ponies with amazing tricks up their sleeves, why not tell us about another animal trickster you’ve been wowed by (whether its a skateboarding dog you spotted on YouTube or maybe even some amazing feat your own pet pulled off).
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 15th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: Anywhere in the world!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck…

PONY UP! Our 9mo puppy has learned many tricks, including ripping the newspaper to shreds before I get a chance to finish reading it and the toliet paper game as we’ve started calling it-running through the house with toliet paper from the whole roll trailing behind her- such a joy to clean up!

I saw a woman walk up her driveway with her dog, then point to the end of the driveway, release the dog from the leash and then the dog trotted down the driveway, picked up the morning newspaper and padded back to the front door with tail wagging. Much better than anything my two pups can do!

The cat I used to own didn’t do tricks that anyone would want to line up for but I did use to love that he would play “fetch” with small rubber bouncy balls. He would carry them along my apartment in his teeth so I could throw them again for him to scramble after. He did the same with my hair elastics which while adorable was less appreciated when I couldn’t find any in the morning.

Pony Up…. My favorite trick i have ever seen was one my 1st horse did… His name was smokey and i was 10 when i got him…. His previous owners had taught this 10 year old fella a few tricks….He could bow, he could rear on command, and he could actually open the stall doors (something i wish they hadn’t taught him…LOL)… But my favorite trick was “find the carrot….” I would place a carrot or treat under my hat, in my pockets of my jeans or jackets and say ‘Smokey, Find the carrot….’ and he would sniff you all over looking for it til he found it… and he was very gentle about it, NEVER nipping or biting…All my friends were amazed that he would do this and was so gentl about it…:)

Those painting are awesome, wish I could teach me cat to do this since she’s already got a knack for dunking her paws in things (ex: litter box, spaghetti bowls, potted plants etc) and trailing it around….

Here’s and interesting video about trained monkeys that’s got me thinking about what other things they can possibly be trained to do (I’ve got a couple things on my ‘to-do’ list that could use the help from a monkey or four): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEpJf5-IYwM&feature=related

I seriously “need” this for my oldest daughter who is horse crazy! As far as pet tricks go, our precious dog passed away in July this year, but when he was little, his favorite thing to do was to crawl in bed in between us, under the covers & his head on the pillow. Not really a trick, but fun anyway! We really miss him!

One day when I was leaving for school I noticed my Lovebird, Tweety, somehow flew away. I was devastated and told all my friends at school. They told me that a bird had landed on someone in PE class. So I asked my gym teacher and he called the student to the office who proceeded to call her stepmom. The mom came to school WITH MY BIRD! So my little Tweety few several miles to land on a girl with curly brown hair just like me! He was the best most loyal pet ever!
