JOSS ME! By far our best luck was finding our little house … we saw it the day in went on the market, and had a deal signed in 3 days, despite a planned open house and multiple offers. We’re pretty sure a sweet note to the existing owner about how we’d love to make her house our first home sealed the deal!

We weren’t even looking for houses when a friend cancelled a party and we decided to go see an open house on a whim. We didn’t have a realtor, mortgage pre-approval or anything, but we walked in the house and loved it, and 5 days later made an offer. I wrote a letter to the sellers saying why we loved the place and we got it even though we weren’t the highest offer. That’s crazy lucky if you ask me.

My luckiest home improvement moment is when my mom volunteered to help me paint most of the rooms in my new house. She is the best painter, so it went about three times as fast. Thanks Mom!!

We were so lucky to find our house. Our current home had sold, and we couldn’t find anything we both loved. BUT, our awesome realtor heard through the grapevine that there was one coming on the market soon, and she swept in and let us see it and make an offer before it ever went public. We had to buy it “as is” and have done a ton of work to it, but it’s perfect and we’ll have it forever…and even luckier? We found out a month after moving in that we were having a baby! Crazy how things just work out like they should!

Because of this declining market, we were able to buy a home that would have been a “dream” just a few years ago! It’s definitely a buyer’s market now!

Our luckiest moment was probably our KitchenAid fridge. It retailed for $2700, but my hubs found it on lowe’s for $700….yes, $700 with an energystar discount. we found out later it was a price mistake, but they honored it, so we truly lucked out!

I live in the Twin Cities which is definitely not a cheap place to live, so when my fiance and I found a townhouse apartment with tons of space, friendly staff, a brand new pool, and adorable landscaping within our price range on the same day we saved $500 on a custom wedding band for me, we felt pretty lucky! Days like that don’t happen often, so we are cherishing our first place together come August 13th!

So we bought our house thinking the upstairs carpets looked ok. Then we got there on move in day and saw just how gross they were once the owners had moved their furniture out. And lucky us there were hardwood floors underneath!

Our luckiest find was our first new couch–a huge sectional that we loved, but bought without having measured our living room. It totally fit, even curving in the perfect spot to expose our A/C vent! We felt like me must have been living right for this kind of luck!

When I was pregnant we were looking everywhere for the perfect changing table for the nursery. I didn’t really like what I saw at most stores. One day my mom was driving home in the ditch someone had lost a changing table out of the back of their truck. My mom pulled over, loaded it up. And it was exactly what I wanted!

My luckiest home project was when I found out my husband was handier than he ever led on after 4 years of marriage; he made me a rustic barn wood table out of old barnwood beams and lumber taken out of a crippled barn on our property! Lucky for him, (err…ME)the honey-do list has grown longer ever since :)

Joss Me!!! Buying our house was one lucky experience. My husband met a man at a work event who mentioned he lived in the town we were interested in moving to. When my husband told him that, he said “huh – we’re thinking of selling, but haven’t even put it on the market yet. Why don’t you come check it out?” We didn’t even know how much their house was worth, but we checked it out once and fell in love. A few easy weeks later it was ours!

I was at Ikea buying bookshelves (because I’m still renting, and Ikea bookshelves are decent), when my mom and I saw bench in the desk area of the store. Turns out it was a storage bench with hanging files and a padded cushion on top – just the kind of thing I’d been looking to put in an empty space under a low window in my apartment. Not only that, it was on sale, and there were only a few left. Score!

Joss Me! Lucky for me- my current house was mis-listed for 1,000sq.ft. less than it really is. It’s across the street from my mom. (Cue Everyone Loves Raymond) It had been on the market for months. (This was in ’05 when there were bidding wars the day homes went on the market!) Thankfully, we took a shot and looked at it to see what was wrong with it and noticed their realtor’s mistake. We put in an offer and got it less than they were asking! I’ve put in a lot of hard work and have completed tons of DIY. I lucked out on getting this one!
