I am an avid Craigslist shopper and my lucky find was 3 lights for my kitchen. I bought a chandelier, pendent (fairly substantial in size for the nook) and a flush mount dome for $80. We had just moved in to our new home and the lighting was a long flourescent bulb above the island (we put the chandelier here with a medallion I hand painted to look antigue bronzed) and builder grade brass fixtures in the nook and hall leading to the garage. My hubby wasn’t ready to bite off a huge chunk of money for new lights so I checked ads everyday and found these. They looked brand new. So he couldn’t pass up my proposal. Love them!
I just recently got hooked on your blog. I love your ideas and inspiration (mood) rooms. Thanks for your time and efforts in keeping us motivated to make our homes beautiful.

I went to Home Depot to check out their oops paint and stumbled across their discontinuation sale of their own line of no-VOC paint. They only had base 2 left but I got colors for 5 rooms and they are absolutely perfect! $10/gallon!

My luckiest find was our house–it just needed some TLC and we found it (on our dream street, full of friends and awesome neighbors)by word of mouth, for sale by owner–an 80-year-old woman who’d lived there 42 years. It has almost doubled in value in the 8 years we’ve owned it, so even though we’re starting to outgrow it (2 kids later), we’re adding on an upstairs because we love it and our neighborhood so much.

Our luckiest moment was buying our home here in Santa Rosa, CA. We got married at the height of the housing market crash, so we purchased our 5 bedroom home that would usually have sold for $500K+ for $245K with our wedding gifts as a downpayment. However, the luckiest part was threefold – not only did we get a great price, our offer was one of 32(!!!) made on the house, AND, the day we got our keys we found out that I was pregnant with our first son – it was quite a wonderful week!
