JOSS ME! My luckiest home improvement was having a lower cabinet next to the kitchen sink that was 24″ (the width of a dishwasher) – we took it out and put one in,and joke that it has saved our marriage. That may not sound very exciting but if you have EVER tried remodeling a 100 year old house, NOTHING is ever that straightforward!

We have been fairly lucky. We found our house on foreclosure the day it went up for sale. Found 2 Ethan Allen couches at a furniture store going-out-of-business sale for an insanely low price. Not too mention all the amazing finds we got lucky at thrift store browsing. We could use more luck though, we have a long way to go!

My luckiest home improvement was definitely luck (or stalking). We (I)found our foreclosure of a home the same day it was listed and immediately called our real estate agent to get us a visit. It is a looooong process until finished, but fun all the while!

Our luckiest home-related thing is how we got our new apartment. My fiance’s cousins had been living there for 3 years, with his sister upstairs. We were looking for a new place and kept saying how great it would be to live there. On the day they bought a house, we got in touch with their landlord and got the wheels moving for us to move in. Very good timing since there’s only a month overlap in the rents!

PS – Love that the pic you used has a ceramic dog.

We got lucky with a new garage door, after my husband crashed into ours we were on a hunt for a new garage door. Those things are expensive and since our house was old, nothing was a standard size. After months of constant craigslist searching, we located replacement panels for $60 total!!! So a $600 fix turned into a $60 fix. Lucky.

My luckiest house moment was when we found our house. We first viewed it while it was listed for $200,000 and we really liked it but it was a little over budget. Two months later we were still looking and the house dropped to a short sale and was now listed for $125,000! We were one of 8 offers, but we got it!

We painted our living room a nice sage-y green color and then took an outdated broken security panel off the wall and discovered original (from 1916 – most likely handpainted!) wallpaper underneath it that matched perfectly with the color we chose! So we left that little patch of wallpaper unpainted.

We got our house after it was on the market for 30 days. It had had 28 showings and 6 offers (not including ours). When we walked in, I knew it was ours, so we fought for it. After being in it for two years, we are finally to the point we can actually decorate and not just repaint and rip down walls. Haha.
