Inspired by you, Sherry, I wanted to make my own curtains for our new house — did some digging to find the $18/yd fabric I coveted elsewhere for just $4.95/yd. I thought that was the best part, ONLY TO FIND a week later that Pier 1 stocked an ADORABLE, ON-SALE MATCHING CHAIR!!! A design miracle, I say. So, Joss me, please? :)

JOSS ME – this Website is awesome! I don’t think I’ve had a luckiest home improvement moment yet – we current rent and I’m just getting into decorating the place with post-college duds.

My luckiest moment was buying our house. My husband disappeared one afternoon to drive around the town we were looking in. A few days later he took me to a house that was nicer than the ones we were looking at. Long story short, we were the lowest offer and they accepted!! And to top it off, we’ve become extremely close to our neighbors (even spending holidays with them). BTY, the unluckiest part occurred a week after we moved in when I broke my ankle on the stairs, yikes!

    I’ve got two lucky stories:
We sold our first house in 4 days with 6 competing contracts, in order to buy our dream house…in 2009!

I married a guy willing and able to learn anything about home improvement himself. Saves us a boatload on projects and a real sense of pride and love for our home.

My luckiest home moment was finding my current apartment. I’m not sure if it was being the first to look at it, or the fact that I got there a bit early and bought some blueberries that I offered to the super who was showing the place (and seemed very appreciative), but whatever it is, I found a good-sized apartment in Brooklyn with a deck bigger than most NY’ers apartment for a not-crazy price. So lucky!

Our luckiest moment was when we pulled up the carpet in our formal dining room (a dark, forest green I might add) with the idea that cement is better than having to look at the carpet until we figure out what to put down. When we pulled it up, we were surprised to find a tile we kind of liked! We ended up figuring out a way to paint it and it’s so much better than that green carpet!

Thanks for hosting this great giveaway!!! <3

My luckiest home improvement story is that I have a husband who is ridiculously handy. With no prior experience, he moves doors, reroutes plumbing, rewires electrical, lays tile… it completely eliminates the need to hire professionals to work on our fixer upper. He is awesome and I’m lucky to have to to give life to my home reno visions.

Unfortunately we bought our first home (a townhome) when the housing market was nearly at it’s peak, and now we’re stuck here for a while. BUT, we got lucky with a neighborhood filled with amenities, and the BEST neighbors you could ever ask for!

And like in your examples, we found our home BEFORE it went on the market. Our real estate agent was also the agent of the sellers, and she showed us the house several days before it was to be listed. We made them an offer and they took it!

    My luckiest house moment?
Well we sold our condo in LA when the market was pretty high (2006), found a great (cheap) rental (with a view of Seattle, great schools, beautiful garden, but 70s decor) the one weekend we were in Seattle before the big move to Washington, lived there for 3 years, then I got pregnant. The landlord wanted to remodel so we had to start looking. After a few months, we finally found a great house to buy in the same neighborhood. At the time, the market was low. And it’s a mid-century home to boot! So a lot of lucky house moments there.

My luckiest home improvement moment was when we gutted our bathroom. When we were taking our shower out I was positively certain that there was going to be water damage behind the shower walls. I would have bet on it. Much to my surprise there was no water damage!! Whew!!!
