We were trying to get the $8000 tax credit and running on a time crunch as far as closing dates. It looked like it was not going to happen, but the loan agency sped things up to a 2 week closing just so we could get our house!

Our luckiest home improvement moment was just a few weeks ago. My husband casually mentioned to his BIL that we needed a new AC unit (for central air) for our new townhouse, and he said, “Well I happen to have a spare one I can give you for free!” Score!! Now all we have to pay for is for someone to install it!

My lucky moment came when I scored the Ikea table I’d been eyeing for a few months 50% off in the clearance section… it had been a floor model and appears to be in perfect condition. And it was HALF off!

JOSS ME! We found our home the day that we had a scheduled appointment to view another one in the same area. What’s funny is that we’d seen our house on the online realty sites, but didn’t get a sense of the potential until we saw it in person. We made an offer that same day!

My luckiest home decor/improvement related moment is either the honed and filled ivory travertine tile I scored for our bathroom reno at $2/sf (when we were still homeowners)

OR the West Elm Tillary sofa we got for 40% off during their sale + a USPS moving coupon for another 10% off last fall. The best money I’ve spent so far on furniture since we use it as our living room seating AND guest sleeping space since we have a tiny 1 bedroom apartment.

Our luckiest moment was thanks to an unlucky event. Just a day after being “under contract” for our first home, my husband was in a car accident which cause him to be off of work for 2 months. We knew we couldn’t handle a mortgage on disablity and so we pulled out. One year later, husband is in perfect health and we’ve found THE perfect first home! Couldn’t have asked for a better outcome from a rubbish situation.

My home story? I’m a first time home buyer, and I found out TODAY that my offer was ACCEPTED!!!! Wooo!!! I’m 25 years old, and I’ve lived with my parents my whole life (it’s been a blessing – saving money is great!), and it’s time to move out! My house is perfect for me, and I can’t wait to move in!!! Right now, I’m currently refinishing a table and chairs set I got off craigslist for $40. Winning this prize would simply add to the amazingness of my week!!!

One of our many lucky home related events was finding out that we weren’t in the 100 year flood zone. Being naive first time homebuyers, we were just excited that we wouldn’t have to pay for flood insurance. Turns out we’re on the highest ground in the neighborhood and stayed completely dry during 3 worst case scenario floods– something we never would have considered.

My luckest moments happen when I am least expecting it and therefore have no cash on me…at garage sales! I usually plan to go garage sale-ing and rarely “just stop” bc I see a sign. Every time I’ve just stopped is when I have no cash and find something amazing! When I plan it all out and have cash, I find nothing I want.
