Hmm, we scored a sweet couch from our next door neighbor. We hadn’t had a couch for over two years, so getting a nice couch for free was pretty awesome.

My luckiest home improvement moment was closing on our house the day before our state’s “tax holiday” so our huge Home Depot shopping spree, as well as purchasing all our appliances was done tax free!

My luckies home improvement was finding our huge comfortable sectional couch at unclaimed freight for $1000 less than what we could have bought it for at a ‘regular’ furniture store – totally worth it – everyone loves it and its the most comfortable piece of furniture on the house.

Our luckiest home improvement moment was when we were trying to deal with our lack of ironing board storage and implementation options(like your earlier post). When we moved from one house to another, we suddenly lost of place to iron and store the ironing board. We are frequent ‘garage-salers’ and came across a lady that had one of those ‘in the wall’ ironing board things (like they used to have in the 1950’s) and it was still new in the box. They sell them at home improvement stores these days for around $150. Our price at the garage sale? Five smackaroos. Pretty sure the lady didn’t know what she had or just didn’t want it or have use for it. All we had to do was paint and install it in our laundry room. which you could do as well, if your current solution doesn’t work out.

Lucky to have an offer on a short-sale home not go through at the same time that a house next door was coming in the market, completely renovated (including nice hardwood floors, granite kitchen, etc), and at the same price as the other one. We got the second house and are happy first time home-owners in a beautiful home.

JOSS ME! I’m still waiting for my lucky moment. I’ve been in love with Philippe Starck’s Louis Ghost chair for years now but my student-then entry level employee-then grad student-and now mid-level manager salary has never allowed for it. I’m convinced one day I’ll own one!

My luckiest home improvement moment was the day I rescued a 9-foot-long mid-century teak credenza from a consignment shop for $50.00 just as another woman was about to buy it and “paint it a really cool black.” I SO couldn’t let that happen. It is now refinished and totally makes my living room proud.

I’d say it was pretty lucky that we found our dream home when we weren’t even looking yet. We were even luckier that it was winterized (in January in the Midwest — it was colder inside than outside), which scared away much of our competition, and even luckier that the house’s very long driveway was not plowed, scaring away the rest of the competition. Needless to say, we negotiated a great price.

The best house luck I ever had is when I bought a foreclosure for dirt cheap. It was a cute house that needed a bit of work. Since i bought the house in the winter, little did I know what awaited me outside. The previous owners had landscaped gorgeous gardens in the front and backyard! Jackpot!!

In general, I feel very lucky to have the house I do, but one of my favorite “woot!” moments was when I found a $250 chandelier I had been lusting after listed on Craigslist for $80! And then I talked the seller down to $65! I smile every time I turn that light on :)

wow what a great giveaway. I tend to have good luck in general with finding what I am looking for to add to my nest. I think I got it from my mom, she was very good at finding just what she was looking for, at a thrift store, estate sale or really really on sale.

I’m hoping the decision I made today, was my luckiest home improvement. Back in April, I ordered a couch from a local furniture store. Didn’t know it at the time, but the fabric was on back order and as of today, still do not have my couch! So, I cancelled the order, ordered a couch from a different company and it will be here on Sunday! I’m hoping this too, will be a great couch AND I scored a huge discount!
