My luckiest home moment is yet to come… My husband and I just bought our first house and we close in a few weeks. We’re so excited about the home and all the projects we’ll tackle. It’s our dream home and we can’t wait!

I have several good luck stories, but two of my favorite are scoring an NYC Cart (you know, the big wire ones good for groceries and laundry?) for FREE one weekend when my then boyfriend and I were visiting my parents in PA! And the second is that my current roommate and I found an apartment on the upper east side for under $2400 that is about 900 square feet, and since I know you know New York Real Estate… that’s amazing! We got approved for it within 12 hours. Fantastic!

I scored an old lamp that my grandparents had bought for my parents. It had been sitting in my parents’ basement forever. We have it a new coat of apple green paint and a new shade. We breathed new life into it and it’s still going strong in our office!

Lucky home improvement moments happena all the time for me b/c of my handy, handy husband! If it weren’t for him, everything would be hung crooked, etc. He is the ultimate prep man for projects, which is lucky since I start half-cocked when I get an idea!
Thanks for your blog; love it!!

Joss me! I got lucky looking for wall art in our bedroom. Went to a discount warehouse that sells “old” furniture and decor from model homes/model apartment. Found an awesome green leafy piece that I loved and is now hanging over our bed. The price tag was (probably mistakenly) marked at $5! FIVE DOLLARS! They let us use the sticker so I scored huge on it! Normally would be around $70 or so. I was so pumped. Easily one of my favorite pieces in the house.

We bought our first home in a new development just as they were almost done with our street, so there weren’t too many lots left to choose from. We were really lucky to get one of the last lots at the very end of the culdesac that backed up to protected wetlands… it is seriously the perfect sancutary when we’re hanging out in the backyard or just looking out the bedroom window in the morning :)

I have an historic house fully decorated with awesome furniture via craigslist, freecycle, friends, family and super awesome side of the road FREEBIES! But, my most favorite piece is an 1876 hutch gifted to us from my father in law (his grandfather built it) It’s simply gorgeous, masculine and has so much sentimental value. If you stop over someday, it is the first thing i will show you;)

My husband and I were fortunate enough that my parents were updating their house right when we got married, so we ended up with a kitchen table, living room furniture, bedroom furniture, and bookshelves for free from them. Not our style, but perfect for the first few years while we save money and figure out exactly what our style is (and it’s an added bonus that we are getting out of the “spit-up” stage with our kids before we spring for something nicer!)

Up until recently I’d lived a pretty nomadic lifestyle, and because of that hadn’t ever bought “real” furniture. While browsing Craigslist one day, I found my dream West Elm rug listed–exact color, exact size–for only $70. It would have been at least $600 new! Now my living room, full of grown-up furniture, is centered around that rug :-)

My luckiest moment was finding 6 old ornate chairs for $5 on the last day of a garage sale. Not only were they priced amazing and had amazing quality but they fit in my tiny 4 door sedan without any scratches, having to hang them out the windows or trunk, or embarrass myself and put them on the roof (which I totally would have done anyway). They even threw in the rope to keep my trunk closed. What a steal!

Totally lucked out finding our house. Yes, day it went on the market – put in an offer – & there were 3 other offers right behind us. Our terms were what mattered to the seller. And we didn’t pay over list (actually a lil less).
