I guess our luckiest home improvement moment was when we had someone come out to look at the hole we knocked in the wall and found out that we HAD NOT been playing around in asbestos for a few weeks. This is back when we were newbs, of course.

we’ve had some good luck with home furnishings…one of our faves are the fireplace doors we found on craigslist for $25. (we were looking at $250 for doors from home depot). the doors have straight lines and look totally modern now that we’ve covered the “gold” with a fabulous coat of ORB.

My luckiest moment happened about an hour ago :) We were given a nice kitchen table a few years ago but it only had three chairs. I gave up looking for a fourth chair two or more years ago and just walked into goodwill and BAM! there it was in perfect condition :) Now we don’t have to have our circle-shaped kitchen table pushed up against the wall in an awkward postition! And in perfect timing, my husband is on his way back from Afghanistan as I type this; I know his OCD self will be THRILLED.

My luckiest home find (& absolute favorite!) has to be a $5 coffee table found at a swap meet. It’s rustic, chunky and utterly indestructible – made of 2×6 boards and giant lag bolts. I just love how its warm rustic look contrasts with more modern decor.

It’s a tie – my $5 barn sale school maps and the 200 year old barnwood we picked up for $10 an armload from a craft sale. The lady who was selling the barnwood looked super happy to see little wimpy armed me… until she realized that my big beefy husband would be the one carrying the armloads :)

One of my lucky moments was while driving through our neighborhood I spotted a patio set with a bistro table and 2 chairs with Free on it. We loaded it up, brought it home, a few coats of spray krylon in ORB and it looks great!. I recovered the cushions on it with fabric on sale so the whole set ended up costing $20 dollars in materials.

Our luckiest moment was chasing my then 18 month old down the driveway behind our house just as a neighbor was about to take a perfect, unused toddler bed to Goodwill.

He never saw us actually bring the bed home, but it just so happened that it was the very night he decided to climb out of his crib!

Joss Me! We were so worried about selling our house after we had already started building a new one. Well, I wasn’t, my husband was. I figured God would handle it. It ended up our buyers couldn’t move in until a week after our close date on our new house. So, we got to move from the old right in to the new.
