I just moved 3 weeks ago to a new apartment. I am a graduate student in NYC, and as you know, cost-effective housing here can be sparse. We have a lottery system for student housing at my school, and I was lucky enough to get a great place that is bigger than and half the rent of our old apartment. The price is unheard of for a one-bedroom in Manhattan. I feel very lucky.

JOSS ME! My husband and I bought a house right before we got married, but a few months before we got married he rented the house from the seller first. He was renting it to kind of “test it out”, but was planning on actually buying it about a week before our wedding. A few weeks before he bought it, a pipe started leaking and had to be replaced. The repair was going to cost $1,000 and we certainly did not have that right before our wedding! Luckily, we did not own the house yet, so the seller had to replace the pipe right before we bought it! Close call :)

Finding our New York apartment was extremely lucky. We somehow managed to get an extra bedroom and a semi-private roof deck within our teenie tiny budget. Oh, and I scored a sweet vintage ladder for $20.

When buying our bar height table for the eat-in kitchen, I thought it only came with 2 chairs. It was quite pricey knowing I would have to buy 2 additional chairs, but I wanted it anyway. Well lucky me – when I picked up the table – four chairs were loaded into my vehicle. I didn’t have to buy the extra ones! Holla!!!!

One day when I went over to my parents it was for sale, we put in offer in that night and now live right behind my parents. We have built a path through the woods for the kids to drive their motorized vehicles back and forth. Couldn’t have worked out more perfect!!

They were tiling the kitchen floor themselves (whoot whoot!) and for some crazy reason, decided to start at the corner (so there would be a focal point) rather than the middle…even though ALL the DIY books we looked at said to do otherwise.
