Luckiest home find was a beautiful solid oak, Amish-made table in perfect condition with 6 matching ladder-back chairs for $140 on my local CL, and being the first person to inquire about it! :) The person selling it just didn’t need it anymore and had priced it to sell quickly…I’m guessing she could have sold it for 4-5 times as much? Joss-y me! :)

I fell in love with DKNY’s Peacock Blue Poet Bedding set, but the duvet cover alone was over $460 and being on an educator’s salary, no way this was going to happen. Then Macy’s had a big clearance sale and it was there! I got the duvet cover, 2 European shams and 2 standard shams for a total of $150- no kidding! The universe was smiling on me that day:-)

Lucky moment= recently inheriting a beautiful beige plaid carriage blanket that belonged to my grandmother’s grandfather. I can picture it someday gracing a worn-looking brown leather chair in an equestrian-themed guest bedroom… :)

When we were house hunting, we were running out of time and put an offer in on a house that we really liked (but didn’t love) and I said, “why can’t we just find a house like that,” speaking of a house around the corner from the one we were moving forward with.

Three weeks later, our short sale house offer fell through and the house I referenced went on the market! We scooped it up and I never felt as lucky!

I’d say our luckiest house-related happening is that we managed to sell our first house within a week of putting it on the market. Thank goodness I didn’t have to try to keep the house show-ready for long, since my daughter was almost 2 and I was pregnant with my son. I just didn’t have the energy!

I’m going to say getting our new house was one of the luckier moments as well. We looked at it the day after it was listed and made an offer, which was initially rejected due to our contingency. Then we got an offer on our old house the same week and put in another offer on the new house. By that point, the sellers had found out he had cancer and were in Vegas getting treatment. They almost pulled the house off the market but after a few days of crossing our fingers, they accepted our offer. We had to go through a few hoops to get closed since the seller was sick but after a couple extra weeks all was good and we were able to move in.

I’m not so sure I’d call anything in my house shopping/home decor experiences lucky… I tend to run on the opposite side of that, but I was fortunate enough to NOT apply the first color grout that I chose for my last tiling project – and picked a MUCH better one the second time around. (Sound familiar, John and Sherry?)

My luckiest home related find happened when we found our house. It had been sitting empty for two years. The builder had already dropped the asking price $50K, and our offer was another 25K less, and he accepted… oh, and we made the offer without my husband having seen it.

Joss me! I feel so lucky that we were able to purchase, move into, and renovate/update the 250+ year old farmhouse that has been in my family for over 200 years. The house has so much history and character and I love the fact that my kids are creating their own memories there too! My grandmother has an in-law ‘apartment’ in the house too which is just frosting on the cake. Thanks for the opportunity!

JOSS ME! My fave pieces came from a friend at work who was down-sizing. I heard she was moving and asked her to let me know if she was getting rid of anything. So one day she packed up all she could fit in her car and brought it to work, and I got some amazing lamps, mirrors and paintings to furnish our home!

Luckiest moment: When we first bought our house 5 years ago, we really wanted the Pottery Barn Sullivan square ottoman for the living room… but not for $1k. After calling the nearest outlet store weekly and never having any luck, I found it there while randomly driving through the area (an hour from home)… marked down to $600… on a day when all furniture was an additional 40% off. Hauled that baby home in a heartbeat!

JOSS ME! Our luckiest home improvement moment was when we were walking around downtown Baltimore and saw that a local business had gone under and was being dismantled by our favorite local salvage center. We saw in the window that they had an essentially brand new two-bay industrial prep sink — exactly what we were looking for for our industrial kitchen renovation — ready to be hauled out. So we secured it right on the spot for $250, which is about 10 to 15% of retail price!
