JOSS Me! Our luckiest moment was not getting the house we had a contract on when the owners started acting squirrely – that was not our house. The one we wound up with is our house. Things happen for a reason.

I think to date our luckiest home improvement discovery is that a wall that divided our living room into two separate smaller rooms was built on top of the disgusting shag carpeting that had to go as well. So after taking the wall down and ripping up the carpeting we found lovely hard wood floors that that spanned end to end of the living room.

JOSS ME! our luckiest home improvement was when we bought a vanity with drawers for our new bathroom, not even considering whether piping would interfere with the drawers, only to bring it home and realize it is perfect for the placement of pipes. Unfortunately, that was probably the only thing that went right from our bathroom remodeling.

When we needed a new oddly sized front door, we went to Lowes to order it and there it was in the clearance section for $100! Someone ordered the exact door we needed in that weird size and never picked it up!

We just purchased our first home in April and to date we’ve had several ‘lucky’ moments. My favorite has gotta be when we were helping our sibling move into their place they had a pile of stuff they were going to get rid of, sitting in the pile was the EXACT pendant light fixture from IKEA that I currently had in my shopping cart to use to replace our hideous dining room light. Score!

My luckiest home moment was when we bought our first home – it had just gone on the market and we toured it and loved it. Then we found out that it was a foreclosure, but in excellent condition with very recent additions and professional painting throughout the house (in colors that we actually liked). We got a GREAT deal!

JOSS ME: the luckiest house moment was several years ago when we sold our house after putting it on the market in 2 days. And, for $25,000 more than our original realtor suggested we list it for; thank goodness we went with realtor #2! Phew.

Since we *just* bought our very first house I only have this one instance of awesome home-related luck – we love our new place, are dying to move in, and thought we’d have to wait until the end of August to close. BUT we just heard from our agent that the sellers want us to close and move in sooner if that’s convenient for us! SCORE!

When I moved to Illinois to start grad school, I somehow managed to furnish my apartment within a week for under $300 (and no icky free side-of-the-road mattresses, either). I thought it was pretty lucky, and I especially love my worn, ugly, incredibly comfortable plaid couch.

After two long weekends of searching for our first home (before our transfer to another state)time was running out and we hadn’t found our house yet. Feeling totally deflated and stressed we packed our car for the long drive back home. Making one quick stop before jumping onto the road home we passed a neighborhood and suddenly felt the urge to drive through it. On a street we had passed many times, but never explored, we saw a beautiful house with a for sale sign. Long story short, after a quick call to our Realtor and a very last minuet viewing, we knew this house was “the one” (and well within our price rang too!) We put in an offer on the spot and it was accepted within only a few hours! We have lived in our home 8 months now and still can’t believe how lucky we are to have found our perfect first home!!!

We were lucky with our condo too! The complex developer was running a promotion b/c they received incentives if they could sell out within 12 months after breaking ground. We just happened to look at it 362 days after ground breaking. Which equalled awesome promotions on the only unit left in the building! Which we now love and have called home for 6 years.

My lucky story isn’t really home improvement but it was amazingly lucky none the less! We had a terrible storm and a great big poplar tree in our yard came down- the lucky part was that it fell right between ours and the neighbors house, didn’t hit either of our roofs, even fell through the open doorway of our fence and got caught in a phone line but DIDN’T mess anything up! We were seriously saved at least a couple thousand dollars!
