    JOSS ME!
I don’t have one really lucky home improvement moment, but I’ve managed to make a pretty stylish country-cottage home for my small family on a shoestring budget by shopping at outlet centers, thrift stores, garage sales, and by grabbing things at people’s curbsides. I guess I’m pretty lucky that my hubbie encourages my experimentation and lust for all things involving home decoration!

JOSS ME! My luckiest home improvement moment would have to be the slew of “oops” paint I came across at Lowe’s right after we closed on the purchase of our house–including a 5 gallon container of a great shade of light blue that I scored for $10. I think we painted every single wall and ceiling in our house for under $100. Of course, many rooms have been repainted since, but that initial savings could not have come at a better time.

My luckiest household moment was actually finding my current apartment. I had answered an ad for the upstairs apartment, but when I got there the 1st floor was open as well…and it had a private backyard area! The asking rent was too much for my blood, but apparently the landlord wasn’t thrilled with anyone else that had come to see the apartment. They lowered the rent to the same price as the upstairs apartment so that I could afford to move in! How lucky is that??

Joss me! My luckiest moment was snagging my dream home 2 years ago. It was on the market for 2 days, and there were 3 offers on it. My husband makes fun of me for calling it luck, considering that we went over asking price, but I still think there was some serious joss action going on.

We are just finishing up a complete guy rehab of our second bedroom. We put in new insulation, walls, ceiling, ceiling fan, and added a second window (scary to have some dude with a sawzall coming through the wall of our house!). The best score of the whole deal was getting 300 sq ft of reclaimed, used oak flooring for $100!

I found the house of my dreams while taking my dog for a walk around the block from our old apt. It was a bit out of our price-range, and being an old house (built in 1890) it would need a lot of tlc, but after a few months of wishful thinking, we finally bought it! We’ve been living here for 6 years and it’s still the house of my dreams!

JOSS ME! My luckiest home improvement moment was when I went to JoAnn’s to find fabric for my craft room curtains, and as soon as I walked in, the perfect fabric was staring me in the face! That never happens. It always takes me months to find the perfect fabric. (Or perfect piece of furniture, or light fixture, or tile, etc etc etc) What a nice surprise!

Or maybe I should say my luckiest moment was when I found your site? Does that give me bonus YHL points? ;)

My luckiest home moment was simply having the best realtor EVER. I moved back to an area I hadn’t lived in since elementary school and was looking to buy a house, so my parents called up the realtor they used when they purchased a house in the same area years before. He no longer did residential sales….unless it was for close family or friends. He considered me a good family friend and took me under his wing to find the perfect house for me!
