    JOSS ME!

I suppose my luckiest home improvement moment was the day I figured out my boyfriend is into DIY things just as much as I am! :) We’ll be living together soon and I can’t wait to come up with fun projects to bond over.

My luckiest home improvement experience is that my dad knows how to work with wood so he created built in bookshelves for me! It’s always been on my dream list for a house- especially since I’m a librarian! :) http://tracyandtim.blogspot.com/2010/01/library-reveal.html

My ‘luckiest’ home moment came in finding our first home! Our realtor only took us to look at 2 homes in the city/ price range we were working with. One of the homes was horrid, but we fell in love with the second and bought it!

My luckiest home moment involved losing an amazingly priced rent (too good not to take!) for a decently sized apartment with a so-so location to another party after calling an hour too late. The remaining apartments were out of my budget, and after explaining what happened to the leasing manager, he felt really bad because he knew how much we wanted it, he was able to drop the nicest one-bedroom apartment (with more square footage, an amazing river view, and the added bonus of a balcony!) down to fit right into my budget! I move into this new apartment in less than a week!!

My lovely apartment was the second one I looked at on my first day of looking, and I was able to negotiate a discounted rent! I love it, and am very happy I didn’t get burned by the difficult Chicago rental market!

Joss me! Getting our house was the best. There was another offered turned in before ours (after just 2 days on the market) but our friend was our mortgage broker and told our realtor we could close in 2 weeks, which is what made the sellers chose us over the first offer. Close one! Our realtor let us borrow earnest money from her, also. I don’t think that’s luck – I think that’s great friends! :) We adore our house.

My best find was a thrift store antique mirror with classic lines, and really solid construction. A little mineral oil, some windex and for $14 I had something to hang behind our couch and bounce more light around the room that should have cost me $200!

Our luckiest thing is that my little brother is now at the age where he wants to build everything/anything, he’s 14. So since we just moved we are having him build some shelving for our bathroom, and picture frames out of wood from our old barn. He loves to do it, and we love the stuff!

We really haven’t had many lucky moments with our house, other than it had been on the market for over a year and had JUST dropped into our price range when we started looking. We snapped it up as fast as we could! We just found out we’re expecting, so this would be a great thing to win to help decorate the little ones room!

I think we have been incredibly lucky with having great neighbors. There is a lot that you can’t control when you get a new house and neighbors can make or break your experience. We have truly great neighbors that even mow our lawn when we are out of town!

Luckiest moment was happened when we put a glass tile backsplash up in our kitchen. This was our first home improvement project and it came out great! We are so thrilled with the end result. Since then, it has encouraged us to keep trying new improvements around our house (of course with Young House Love’s help and inspiration too!)

Our luckiest was actually a win/fall and a silver lining. We signed a multiple year lease on a place we loved so we could get a better rate (and lock it in!). About the time we realized that we just could not live there anymore (holy lack of noise insulation and im a light sleeper- ugh) the owners broke the lease because of financial issues and we moved to a great new place (with good insulation!).

Joss Me! Joss Me! Joss Me! (I bet at least 10 other people also did the Grey’s Anatomy reference). We are just starting out on the home improvement road – total newbies. The best moment so far was finding out that my favorite painting at my favorite restaurant (which I had been eyeing forever) was going to be on sale at an art show, and then getting it as a surprise gift from my boyfriend. It’s hanging up in the living room now!

Luckiest moment was finding the perfect house after five years of searching. My husband wanted country living (no neighbors/room to spread out) and I wanted suburbs (for the kids to have friends near by). We never thought it would happen but we found a house in a subdivision on two acres! It’s surrounded by trees and has a HUGE yard. We can’t see the road or our neighbors but there are tons of kids around for ours to make friends with. Not to mention it’s in an awesome school district. The house needs major updating (totally fine by me!) but we all win. It’s the perfect house for us. :) Even if I don’t win the giveaway I still feel like a winner for this one!!

We are expecting (in September) and we were freaking out when we saw how much things cost for nurseries! However, with some really nice friends donating some stuff to us and my search through yard sales, we spent a grand total of $35 on ALL of the furniture in the nursery! Call it luck or perseverance :)
