My luckiest home improvement moment was when I went to a furniture store to look for a new kitchen table and came across my favorite blanket of all time. Even though we did not find the table we wanted, we were lucky enough to find the softest blanket which my fiance and I cuddle under every night. JOSS ME!

My roommate and I had just commented to each other that we desperately needed more bookshelves in our apartment when another friend emailed us, totally out of the blue, offering two IKEA Billy’s for free! We moved them in yesterday and they work BEAUTIFULLY in the space.

I have attended two different parties at a local furniture distributors showroom (I’m a designer), and I won a Generation chair at the first one, and a pair of Risom chairs at the second one! My husband (an architect as well) just won a bio-glass table from another rep this morning. We joke that all our furniture will be freebies! Fine by me, it’s great stuff!

My husband & I are relocating for the first time, thanks to the Navy – to an island off of Seattle from the Midwest. We were lucky enough to find a perfect rental home the hour it was posted on Craigslist – hooray! Now all we need is some fun decor from Joss & Main :)

When I was engaged to my now husband, we were looking for a home while planning a wedding. We decided to build. After giving a decent sized deposit- the company never started and then went under. Additional lawyer fees later, we are out of our deposit AND too much $ in legal fees. Unfortunately. However, the luck comes in in that it probably wasn’t the best house for us. It would have gone under eventually and we would have been in bad shape- PLUS our current house has character, a big yard with an inground pool and is a lovely all brick ranch in a great neighborhood. WE ‘jossed’ out but it was still stressful while it was going on!

My luckiest house-moment was probably an 11th hour change on which house we were going to buy! We had an appointment to sign papers on a house we had decided on and the night before my husband said to “I’ve been thinking… what if we went with the OTHER house” (which was one I’d dismissed immediately for being too big). A few hours of discussion later and we changed our offer the next day without even looking at the houses again. Best decision ever. I love my house and I’m so glad he talked me into getting the bigger one. We’ll never grow out of it!

Joss Me!! We have a peninsula three-way fireplace that partially divides our living and dining room. We also have a toddler. My luckiest moment was paying a friend $20 for her old $100+ baby play yard and having it perfectly wrap around the fireplace to babyproof it. Not sure what I would have been able to come up with if that hadn’t worked!

I would have to say that my lucky moment was purchasing a faux bamboo dresser off ebay over a year ago. I sanded it and painted it black high gloss, and it is gorgeous. The real luck is that I discovered I love doing DIY. Don’t get me wrong – I totally stress about each and every project, but in the end, it is worth it. We don’t have the money for newbies, so redecorating the old has certainly helped!

My most lucky house decorating moment was inheriting my grandma’s solid oak desk. it’s gorgeous and sturdy and we had to take it apart to get it into my office!

besides the great piece of furniture it is, this piece reminds me of grandma paying bills, writing birthday cards and loving her family for all of her 79 years.

The luckiest home improvement moment happened when I was searching craigslist for nothing in-particular and came across this beautiful yellow chair for $30. I get to the house and she is completely selling everything. I got a HUGE, AMAZING rug, an awesome chair, an old stereo and speakers, and an INCREDIBLE mini-bar for under $80.

I walked out of her house so excited and flabbergasted that I could barely drive home! THANK YOU WONDERFUL CRAIGSLIST LADY!!!!

One of the more recent lucky moments was when my boyfriend and I self-installed a chandelier in the living room. We have never done anything electrical-related, so with the help of Youtube videos we wired it correctly, and voila! When I turned the power back on and turned the switch, it lit up!

JOSS ME! So my husband and I actually got our dream house! It literally checked EVERY SINGLE box on our wish list. And it was well, well within our price range. I still shake my head two years later! And then I almost burnt it down the first week we owned it but that’s a story for another time…..

We found the perfect house on our first trip out but when we put in an offer the counter offers got too high for our price range. We walked away but luckily, a month later, the price of that house dropped $30,000 and we were able to scoop it up! Whoot!

My luckiest moment was getting my current house. A friend’s husband mentioned a house he saw for sale in a neighborhood he’d been in that day for work, and it ended up being exactly what I wanted. I wasn’t looking for a house in that area of town (just b/c I didn’t know anything about it) and never would have known about it if it wasn’t for him!

The second part of the luck was when I gave my realtor the list of houses we were interested in and he crossed about half off the list b/c they were under contract. My favorite wasn’t crossed off the list b/c he couldn’t get a hold of the seller’s agent. We toured the house and I knew it was the one, and afterwards he finally heard back that the house was under contract. We knew how much we loved it so we held out hoping that we could get it anyway. The contract ended up falling through and we got the house (YEA!), but if he had been able to get a hold of the other real estate agent, he would have been told that it was under contract and we would have moved on.

All in all, it just felt like that house was meant to be ours! :)

my husband and i weren’t really looking to buy a house, but i occasionally checked redfin to see what was out there. i found a house online one day that had a wrap around porch and was right on the water near annapolis (we live in the DC area)…and it looked awesome. we drove by and the owner was outside so we chatted with him for a bit and eventually he invited us in. the next weekend we toured some comps, came back, and wrote an offer that afternoon. it’s been a lovely 11 months in our 71 year old cape cod on the water, even if it wasn’t planned- lucky us!
