My luckiest find for my home was finding my dining table chairs at my local Salvation Army. I scored six of them to the tune of $50! For all six! My mom helped me reupholster them. They’re pretty old, and I am trying to figure out when they may have been made, especially since they have a really interesting shape. If you’re curious, I posted about my re-upholstery project at http://coliescrafts.blogspot.com/2009/11/my-very-own-upholstery-project.html.

    Thanks for the awesome giveaway!

I scored a beautiful wooden trunk (that would retail for many, many hundreds) from an old neighbor for $20! It wasn’t for sale, but told them I’d buy it if they ever wanted to get rid of it (thinking it was beautiful enough to splurge on!) I’ve used it every since as a coffee table, and I can’t imagine ever getting rid of it!

JOSS ME!! PLEASE!! My luckiest home-related event was this: I live in a small town and I had told my husband we were never moving unless a certain home went on the market..Well, it DID, right after I found out we were having # three! The house was much larger. My husband did a lot of work to it, and all turned out well!

Nothing huge, but I was looking for apothecary jars for my guest bathroom forever, but I refused to spend $20-$30 on one. One day while on a trip to Tuesday Morning I found a set of 3 for $15. I almost had a heart attack. These days you can find them cheap many places, but almost 2 years ago it was a complete fluke!

JOSS ME! Our luckiest home improvement has been scoring this latest apartment in Brooklyn. You know when you’re looking with a broker and your heart starts racing because you realize the POTENTIAL of a place that hasn’t been loved the way you could love it? Yeah, we scored big. And now it’s being totally redone in a “Young House Love” style – we even painted our kitchen Benjamin Moore Quiet Moments (the BR equivalent to Gentile Tide). Love it!

My luckiest find so far was stumbling upon a mid-century modern dresser at For Love of Jesus Thrift (go RVA!) a few months ago. I got the dresser for $55 and it fit in my VW Jetta no less (rarely am I able to get things to fit let alone a dresser)! A miracle in deed!

The day we were scheduled to look at our house, it dropped $30k in asking price! Since we were already scheduled to see it, the timing was perfect. We made an offer the next morning and after almost a year in our new home, we still feel very fortunate and grateful!

I am SO not lucky. My husband and I bought our house 6 days too early based on the first homebuyers tax credit that was being given. Yup…..$8,000 we didn’t get because we bought our house 6 days before it went into effect.

“JOSS ME!” Our house was a short sale and we heard back from the seller’s bank accepting our offer in 8 DAYS! That was unheard of in the world of short sales in early 2009. Our agent said it was a “charmed” deal.

My husband and I found out we were pregnant with our first baby in January and he got a new job in February so we were able to buy our first house. We went out one day, looked at seven houses and fell in love with the last one. We made an offer that night and moved in five weeks later, just in time to spend a month in the house before the baby arrives!!

Our lucky moment was the day before we closed on our house, we had our survey done. We were buying a foreclosure and it was all very unorganized from the selling bank. Turns out, the two lots on either side of the house were included in the sale! So we went from about 1/3 of an acre to over an acre! Score!

We moved from Richmond (your old hood) to Raleigh NC and were staying with my husbands rents while looking for a house. It was early December and our realtor brought us to look this house. While we were looking through he got a call that there was a contract on it. We walked away sad and after looking at many other houses, we realized that none compared. We were heartbroken but kept looking. On Christmas eve we got a call from our agent saying that the deal fell through and that our dream house was back on the market. We rushed in that night to make and offer and here we are 7 years later now married with 2 boys.

Our luckiest moment came when we bought our current house. We sold our house at the height of the market to downgrade and so we were living with my parents. After 2 months of searching for a rancher one went up for sale on the street next to my parents. To top that off the house is diagonal from my sister. We love being close to family.
