I was lucky to score two fabulous candlesticks from Pier 1 recently, marked down 50% off. Plus I had a $10 off $10 or more purchase, so I walked away paying only a few bucks for two white ceramic candlesticks. I love them! They will go with a ton of things. Our luckiest moment started out as not lucky at all. We found our house, bought it and then my husband got laid off and was out of work for 18 MONTHS. So, instead of going whole-hog on doing expensive renos we envisioned, it let us sit back and get creative on what we could do ourselves. Ended up being a blessing and we are more proud of our accomplishments!

We thought we would have to replace all of the hideous interior doors (yikes!), but an accidental coat of white semi gloss transformed the doors into the most amazing thing in our house! What a lucky accident!

My luckiest home improvement moment was asking my grandfather for a little advice– “what’s the best way to tile over the existing bathroom floor?” turned into five weekends of total bathroom facelift! I ended up with new flooring plu a new vanity, medicine cabinet, wall hardware, tissue holder, trash can, and tub fascia. (Love you, Grandpa!)

JOSS ME! I was lucky enough to find a super cute dining set at k-mart for $200 when I was in college (that’s a table and four chairs). It has lasted me since 2002 and will probably be kept for many more years to come. Plus somehow managed to get the box it came in to fit in my hatchback sporty car at the time. I think if it had been a 1/2 inch bigger it wouldn’t have worked. Phew!

My luckiest home score was a deer head that my boss really wanted out of her garage. I loved it and named it Benjamin. My husband wouldn’t let it in the house at all for awhile, but now we decorate it for Christmas and it totally works.

My lucky moment was recently when I happened to see a Costco employee carting a faucet back from the returns desk that I had wanted to purchase last year but didn’t have the cash for at the time. They no longer carry it but this one was an unopened return and I ended up getting a $450 Hansgrohe faucet for $129… $60 LESS than it cost there last year when I thought I had missed my chance! Score!! (And it works great – I LOVE my new faucet!)

“JOSS ME!” It may be a little premature to call this out luckiest home improvement moment, but we scored new in box hardwood flooring in just the finish we were looking for on craigslist for 1/3 its regular price! Now we just have to install it. :)

Our luckiest moment was deciding to look at a house that was out of our price range, then finding out that there were a ton of reasons we could bid low. It took a ton of persistence from there on out, but we’ve now got an amazing home (that needs an awful lot of DIY love.)
