My luckiest home improvement moment (ok, make that my luckiest “apartment” moment) was finding a living room couch that matched everything I was looking for–and only cost $399! I always love when my favorite item in a store also happens to be the cheapest. Unfortunately, I can probably count on one hand the number of times this has actually happened. :)

I was gifted an old, beaten up wooden dresser by a friend of my mom’s during college (it’s over 20 years old so imagine the water stains, stickers, markers, etc from its previous owners). I was on the hung for the perfect dresser – wood, comfortable modern without being too crazy and something I could paint. When I realized that I HAD it and it was FREE. Flat front drawers (pull out from underneath), long and low, sleek, slim tapered legs, it was perfect. I sanded it down, painted it a glossy graphite gray (four years ago before the grey trend hit) and have loved it ever since!

I love little finds like discovering that you already own the perfect vase for the new bookshelf (buried somewhere in another room display) or that with a little diy love that goodwill table works out to be a near exact match to the House Beautiful version you oogled over.

I was having a hard time finding the perfect rug to finish off my living room area. Then one day I stumbled upon the perfect size/color rug, however, it was a little pricey. I was patient and within a couple months it went on sale! Definitely worth the wait!

JOSS ME!!! Just recently we were quoted $900 to have someone install a new shower/tub surround. We recently gave our couch away to friends of ours because we got a new one and when they came to pick it up, they (the husband) told us he was going to install the surround for us… for FREE!! What a blessing!!

Luckiest furniture addition to our home is two chairs I got out of a planetarium that was remodeling in Illinois for 10 dollars. I love them, the subtle curve to the seat, tall backs, and headrest that makes it easy to look up at the stars. Plus great story. Drove them back to Idaho after college in a mini van.

I’d say the luckiest for us was making a really, really low offer on the house we love & having them deny it… Then call back a few days later & say they liked us better than any of the other people so they’d take it! We move in this weekend!

“Joss Me!!!” I’m soooo excited, I hope I win!!! They have great stuff! My best/luckiest home improvement story was when we found our house. We were the first ones to see it when it went on the market and were able to meet the owner and make a good impression. Then when multiple, higher bids came in, they gave it to us because they liked us so much! I love our house!

I’ve had a bout of Fabu home luck of late. Other than still being in awe of the dream home I live in, that is.
First, on the 4th weekend, Huz & I planted a gorgeous 15′ cherry plum tree. That I scored. Free. From a neighbor who was going to kill it for a new sidewalk. Total sin, that.
Then, just a couple weeks ago I spied a lonely lovely coffee table hanging on the curb while I was out for a run. Oh, I sprinted back, grabbed my car, and adopted that poor baby. It’s just needing a final coat of paint, light distressing & a finish coat.
    Yay!!

LOVE their stuff! My “luckiest” home improvement moment doesn’t involve DIY or anything surprisingly…my husband and I really wanted to upgrade all of our appliances to stainless steel rather than black/white appliances…a couple of weeks ago my dad and step-mom gave us their old (only 2 year old) refrigerator, stove, and dishwasher…and it completely transformed the look of our kitchen (which has actually received the most tlc, it’s the room that’s changed the most in the house!) super lucky, and exciting! :D

JOSS ME! My most recent lucky home-improvement moment was that when we ripped out the ceiling in our kitchen reno project, we discovered that we had access to all the sketchy old plumbing for the upstairs bathroom (next project). We are now able to have a plumber come ONCE and get it all replaced, which saves us a bunch of cash/time.
