I think I’ve been lucky so many times. Most recently I found an industrial coat rack on the street last week that I’m obsessed with. Now if I could only find wallpaper I love for a price I can afford.

My luckiest home moment has to be the fact that I FINALLY have a green thumb! I thought it was because there was so much love for the first home my husband and I purchased….but I’ve slowly (too slowly) realized that it’s due to our amazing sunroom that has three windows facing different directions. Whatever–at lease my plants are happy now!

I think my luckiest home improvement moment(s) came from working at the home office of a large home furnishings retailer and getting to take part in sample sales where there are KILLER deals. Back in the day, I almost completely furnished my entire first apartment on maybe $300 because of those sample sales. Score.

I feel very fortunate to have found the home that I’ve recently moved into. I wasn’t actually “looking” yet, but rather just checking out open houses to see what the floor plans were like. Everything just felt right (I even knew exactly where I would put the cast iron “hand” cabinet knobs that I’d been eyeing online), and the seller was willing to wait three months before we closed so I wouldn’t have to break my lease.

luckiest? well first of all, that our furniture fit PERFECTLY into the living room. and secondly, when we remodeled our bathroom, we did a bit of Home Depot + Craigslist + local showroom shopping & scored matching pedestal sink/toilet/bathtub/fixtures for a crazy slice of the original price. LUCKY.

Favorite home-finding moment: My roommate and I were looking for an apartment, and stumbled on the same one (separately!). I called her to tell her about the “dream place”, which as I was describing, she realized it was the same “dream place” she had found a few days earlier and was planning to tell me about. It was destiny, and we moved in about a week later!!!

craigslist has been a place of great luck for me…..looking for “dining chairs” one random day after a long time NOT looking for anything landed me a set of 5 AMAZING mid century chairs for $16. For ALL of them. I tell the lady selling them that they are awesome, and she says, puzzled, “really?”

Our luckiest moment was that we saw our home before it was even on the market. The realtor saw the kinds on homes we were into and knew this home would be on the market soon. So she checked with the owners to see if we could see it. They said yes and we made an offer the day we saw it. Four years later and I still am madly in love with our home.

I recently moved from Dallas to Chicago and we had a long weekend to find a place to live and were turning up with nothing good, and in a last-ditch effort on the day before we needed to head back home, I checked Craigslist one more time and it turned up the perfect place! Thank goodness we lucked out with where we ended up versus some of the not great places we had been looking at!
