We are big on recycling/reusing items and have bought most of our furniture off of craigslist. We are expecting our first child this fall and I really want a rug to put down on our wood floors in the nursery. We scoped craigslist for a few months and nothing was looking good. My husband is adamant that we have a natural wool rug and the prices are pretty high. So while West Elm was having their recent rug sale I was able to convince my husband that the Sweater Rug met all of our criteria and will look awesome in our neutral room, plus it was 20% off! It’s not the luckiest moment out there but a triumph for me!

My luckiest home find came this past year when my college roommates and I found a fantastic apartment to live in that was new, reasonably priced, and totally eco-sustainable in design. We love our place!

Luckiest moment ever was finding a new bathroom vanity with a bowl sink at the Habitat Humanity repo depot. It was overstock and went to repodepot still in the box. We couldn’t have made a new one for cheaper.

I am lucky to have inherited an antique small bookshelf with 4 shelves. It’s just big enough to hold a lot and small enough to not take up too much space in my cozy house. I sanded it and refinished it. Pretty!

JOSS ME! Our luckiest moment is when we canceled our bid on another home and made a bid on our current home, the day it went on the market. We won and are loving living in our 1955 brick cottage, which I didn’t even see the inside of until after they accepted our offer!

One of my favorite furniture pieces was both a free curb find and a nice surprise! My husband rescued, smuggled in and set up a beautiful multi-level shoe rack for our tiny apartment- all while I was at the grocery store! It is the perfect thing (at the right price) to keep our room shoe-clutter free and stylish!

In our last apartment before buying a house, the previous tenant left a gorgeous solid mahogany buffet. It was too heavy for her to move, and she said she didn’t want it anymore. Two houses later, my husband and I still have it!

We are a military family who prefer to live on base when possible (it’s just more convenient for us.) We are moving 2000 mi in one month and we already know we’ll have a house as soon as we get there (waiting lists can be up to 3 months.) Plus, they didn’t have any two bedrooms available (two bedroom is all thats allotted our family of three) so we get the three bedroom we really wanted.

I found a late 18th century antique wood table with gorgeous bowed legs and a red leather gold embossed top in perfect condition (with mild wear) thrown on its side on the grass next to the trash bin three houses down from my mother’s house…. Can you still hear my tires screeching to a stop?! Haha, I love that table, it’s my most treasured antique! You can see it in this blog post:http://inspirebohemia.blogspot.com/2010/04/good-day-im-back.html

    Have a great day!

JOSS ME! My “joss” moment was finding our gorgeous nursery furniture on Craigslist for our first son, Jude, for 400 hundred bucks! (Crib, dresser, changer) THEN nearly 1 1/2 years later finding out I was pregnant with our second son, Titus and finding the EXACT same set on Criagslist again! Identical bedroom sets, craigslist prices, years apart…score!

My luckiest moment would be when we purchased a chair from World Market that we loved then over a year later decided that we wanted to make it pair and we found one (it was discontinued) about an hour from our house. It was the LAST one in the entire area…and we got it!

My husband and I wanted to add more cabinets to our kitchen, which was built in the 50’s. We went to a reuse center where they sell fixtures they pull out of houses and found cabinets that matched! We installed them and they looked like they had always been there!

JOSS ME! It was pretty lucky (joss-y?) when I told my hubby to keep his eyes peeled for a coffee table when he’s out thrifting, and then our neighbors put the perfect one out for curb pick-up with a matching end table. (And seriously, they’re not trashy! They were just too big for their place.)

My luckiest home improvement dealie was when I moved into my very first apartment, my grandparents gave me a TON of their old stuff. I’ve since replaced some of it but I’m still loving that fantastic corner shelf, and that coffee table will one day be turning blue and purple.
