I was in love with a pair of bookshelves that retailed at Crate & Barrel for $400. I shopped around, and could still only find them for $150 at the cheapest (which is still way cheaper). Then I decided to search on Craigslist, and found a set for $75! Definitely excellent luck and a killer deal!

Joss Me!!! My luckiest house moment was finding not one, but TWO, wicker chairs (one a chaise and one a chair) put out for the trash. A couple of cans of white spray paint and an adorable set of red cushions… and voila! Gorgeous seating for our side yard under the apple tree!

We found our home on our very first time out with a realtor. I had been looking online for probably a year and homes in this 1950s neighborhood (ranch style homes…which led me to this blog). It wasn’t on our list to look at and I had never seen it listed online, but we drove by it and saw an open house sign. After killing some time waiting for the open house to begin, we went and saw our home and the rest is history!

When my dream house first came on the market, my husband was unemployed and we couldn’t make an offer. I cried a little the day I drove past and saw that the sale sign was gone. But a few months later, my husband got a job, and soon after that, the house was for sale again! We’ve been living there, slowly rehabbing, and raising two little boys, for eight years now.

JOSS ME! I once spent months looking for a specific end table. Later… Shoved in the corner of an unused bedroom in my parents’ house, under a lovely gunny-sack-inspired-print of a table cloth — the EXACT table! Love.

My luckiest moment was viewing a home on a Saturday morning that my realtor said had just gone up Friday night – no pictures online or anything yet (back in 2006 when the market was still seller-friendly) — I totally lucked out because the guy who listed it was listing his very first home, and it also happened to be the home he and his wife and their new son lived in! That home was officially on track to being mine less than 36 hours after it listed and I’m still there today!

I generally don’t have tons of luck but finding my apartment was pretty lucky. We were going from a 1 to 2 bedroom and finding some icky stuff in our price range. Found a listing in the newspaper (not online!) and it turned out to be a 2 bedroom+ an office with a beautiful kitchen in the exact location we were looking for. Landlord is very nice too! Maybe I’ll have some luck with this freebie….

JOSS ME! I had a serious stroke of Irish luck when (after the longest year ever of searching) I finally found an adorable little house that met all my needs and wants. I called the realtor listing the property only to find out someone else had just put in an offer 2 hours before. Sad and dejected, I resigned myself to renting for the rest of eternity until 2 months later the realtor called me and told me the house is back on the market! I close in mid-August!!

Joss me! I have a piece that’s very much like a console that we use as our entertainment center. I found it marked for trash at work, at a college institution, discarded from a physics or engineering office. I have no idea what the original purpose of this piece of furniture was. We took it to my in-law’s in their truck, cleaned it up, stained it and have had it in our living room for probably 10 years now.

I had two amazing deals in 1 day at two diff garage sales! I got a dining room table and 4 chairs EXACTLY like what I wanted for $10 in great shape! And in perfect condition, it looks like a pottery barn corner tv stand black and gorgeous, I got for ONLY $5.00! You cannot beat that! He had it for sale for $50.00 to begin with (at a garage sale mind you, which goes to show you how nice this piece was) and I showed up when he was about to close, so he gave it to me for $5 and delivered to my house! I love good deals!

I would say my luckiest decorating moment would be inheriting a mid-century modern set of dressers that my mom got (and refinished herself!) at a garage sale. Not only are they gorgeous, they are a slightly smaller scale than most modern dresser sets and so have fit perfectly in the smaller, older homes we’ve lived in.
