    Joss me!

I had been dreaming of acquiring a 50’s table for my home office for quite a while. One of my clients offered me a vintage dining beauty for free after I complimented her on the piece. Apparently, she was planning on replacing it and wasn’t a fan of the worn vinyl. I just received the replacement vinyl that I chose last week, and it matches my room perfectly.

Even though we were too young to know anything about home buying, we purchased our first and only home, on a whim. We were selected from 25 buyers. Everything seemed to magically fall into place. The loans went through with minor problems and we got the house!

I got super lucky when I bought my current house… I really liked it and thought the list price was very reasonable. I decided on a Saturday night that I was going to submit my offer first thing Monday morning, and on Sunday, the price dropped $15,000! I was ready to pay the asking price (it was a short sale) but I got a discount anyway. Hope I’m that lucky with this contest. :)

My luckiest moment happened when my husband and I bought our first home together 2 months ago. The house needed a little TLC, mostly on the exterior. We asked the bank to pay for the repairs, but the realtors on both sides told us it was very unlikely (it was a fanny mae owned home). Well, I guess we finally got a break because the bank ended up fixing everything we asked for, including; repainting the exterior, repaving our driveway, and putting a brand new roof on the house. We were able to use our money for things like new toilets and light fixtures instead of the daunting and costly project of putting a new roof on our home!

JOSS ME! My luckiest home-related moment was happening to drive through a neighborhood looking at houses, and coming across one that was for sale, but not listed on the MLS. But it was PERFECT, and it’s been ours for almost five years now. We’re about to have our first baby in that house!

I found a GREAT old radio cabinet at an estate sale for $2 which already had new shelves put in it. Voila! Sweater storage. It’s super cute too-dark wood with a faux linen pattern doors with some gold and silver. It even still has the lightening bolt emblem from its radio days. <3

This may not sound very lucky but a couple weeks ago we had some BAD rain storms. Many homes experienced flooding in their homes. We were one of them. And would you believe it, the room that flooded was our baby’s room! I was about 35 weeks pregnant at the time. BUT what was lucky was that my husband and I were home when it started and were able to take the measures necessary to prevent it from getting really bad. No furniture was damaged, the carpet wasn’t damaged, no mold grew, and we have been able to get the room spic and span over the past couple weeks. Now I’m 38 weeks pregnant and the nursery probably looks better now than it did before. I can’t say that many of our neighbors were as lucky as we were.

Our last house had an awesome wall unit, which was left behind in the laundry room. We cleaned it up and re-installed it in the office. After some research, we learned it was a danish mid-century modern piece and was worth quite a bit – score!

I seem to have lucky moments all over the place. Just gotta be willing to get your hands dirty (sometimes literally, sometimes figuratively), whether you’re thrifting or working on a DIY project! Sometimes you just have to wait for a sale though. Just last night, I found outdoor lighting and decor in yellow and gray (our wedding colors) for 50% off at World Market. I walked out with $60 worth of (brand new) stuff for $30!

Second I scored two danish side chairs from the 1960s at an estate sale for $3 each. A few staples and some new upholstery later they are beautiful and I love them.
