My luckiest home improvement moment in home ownership is that I work at a furniture gallery and get everything at cost + freight ;)
It helps a lot since I just got married and we are first starting off. Basically everything is half priced! I even got a tempurpedic mattress! We’re spoiled in the furniture department, if onlyyyy my store had cute accessories like JOSS!

I inherited the most beautiful antique wood chair from my great grandmothers house. My sweet grandfather refinished and recaned it as a suprise wedding gift to my husband and I. It is one of my favorite pieces of furniture in our house, and it is so near and dear to my heart!

My luckiest moment was finding a house in my hometown that has an acre of land! Most of the houses in Flushing only have a small yard, we got an outrageous deal too! 80,000 on a 175,000 house! Crazy lucky! It has an acre of land and an ingroud pool!

My luckiest moment in this process has been having my super handy mom and dad to consult with on home projects, including painting, furnishing, and gardening. Without them, we’d be living with drab walls, dated furniture and our neighbors would be scoffing at our lawn.

I live in an apartment building with an aggressive no-dumping-furniture policy. Really aggressive.

So I was so excited when I went to drop off some recycling and discovered a gorgeous little sideboard/desk stuck behind the mixed paper! Granted, it was a little wobbly and a little scratched, but nothing a trip to True Value couldn’t cure.

I think our luckiest home improvement moment was when we were laying down laminate flooring throughout most of our house. We just happened to have the exact number of boxes of flooring we needed! (All 700+ square feet of boxes!)

Our luckiest find is this house that we’re renting. We moved up to Seattle from Dallas and had rented this awful split level that, we later found out, was going into foreclosure. Our landlords (oh boy what a pair!) never made one mortgage payment while we were there (WHAT were they doing with the money?) and we found out in the second week of July that we had to move by the end of the month. Also, thanks for telling us AFTER we paid that month’s rent.

    PANIC! PANIC! PANIC!

Do you know how difficult it is finding a house to rent with four kids (one was born that May), three dogs and a cat? In a matter of a few weeks?

Anyway, a few days later a realtor my husband knew randomly called and asked if we knew someone who would like to rent a house.

Um, yes, as it so happens we totally do.

Fast forward almost exactly one year later here we are: on five acres in the middle of an apple orchard and horse pasture. We’re making an offer on the house on Monday. Wish us more luck! *fingers crossed*

JOSS ME, please! I will consider my luckiest home improvement of sorts when I score a library file card catalog for the perfect waiting place in my dining room turned conversation area with 4 club chairs, modern feel rug and cool coffee table. I take every opportunity to put this want out in the universe. I am confident someday I will find one in the state of Texas within a day’s driving distance of Dallas. BUT until then my luckiest moment has been my Crate and Barrel-ish table and 6 chairs on Craigslist for $200.

JOSS ME!!! We just moved into a dream house (which I am now trying to decorate and add our style too on the cheap!!)…but were so lucky b/c we almost walked away. Or actually, we DID walk away after seller refused our initial offer in favor of another. We had an offer on another house, heard back from seller of dream house that his offer fell through and were we still interested, we said no., Really felt not OK about 2nd house after going in to measure appliances, backed out of said offer, went back to 1st (dream) house and threw seller a ridiculous 2nd offer… WHICH HE ACCEPTED!! And the story continues but I”m sure your patience to read this does not :) So, again PLEASE! Joss me!

I recently was looking to purchase a coffee table on CL ($75) and the owner never got back to me. Then another one just like it came on CL ($35) and they decided last minute to sell to a family member. So I decided to submit a want ad on CL without a picture of what I wanted and tried to briefly describe what I was looking for… and only one person responded…with the exact table I was seeking…begging me to get it out of her garage…for FREE! Thank you, Jesus!

6k plus comments. I tell ya.

    Joss me.

We saw our home come on the market a long time ago. It was an overpriced flip in a crashing market. Then it was a foreclosure, then a bank owned sell. All the while, we watched as the price continued to drop and we STILL couldn’t afford it. Finally, we said to each other if it hit a certain price point (still a reach for us, but an incredible bargain for the house) that we would take a peek. The day after our 1 year anniversary, it hit that price point. We went, we looked, we offered and feels like a bajillion years later, the bank said “sure why not”. Dream home was my first home purchase (his second home). Though super lucky, I feel like I can do anything after buying a house from the bank in what was really less than a month. Talk about luck.
