My lucky moment came during an unlocky moment. We had nails hammered into our drain pipe and one day when I drained the tub, all the water came into our dining room. We called the contractor who was in charge of laying the floor in the bathroom (where the nails went into the pipe) and he came out and fixed everything for us for FREE! Talk about lucky!

My lucky story definitely has to do with our current home. We do not own it and it in now way is our dream home. In fact it is a doll house that we have out grown the space in the short year we have lived hear. So what is so lucky you ask? One is that we signed the lease two days before we were going out of the country on vacation and would return to being homeless and second is the magical back yard! At the time, we had two 3 month old puppies and the outdoor space (which doubled the inside) was the perfect fit. Last but not least, it is the house that we lived in when we got married and that first place together is always magical!!My hubs and I thank our lucky stars every day for this house!!

Joss Me…My lucky moment was finding our blog and realizing just how much I could DIY in my house. My family and friends tend to think it’s better to buy something pre made or hire someone but the hubs and I wanted to DIY as much as we can and I get a lot of inspiration/encouragement from seeing what you accomplish!

This might sound silly, but I think my luckiest home improvement moment in this current home has been living in it for almost four years before doing anything MAJOR to it, design wise. It’s made us realize what we love (and don’t love) about it. We know it’s light, we know it’s feel, and now we can really put our touch on it and make it our own. Starting with the pinterest challenge!!!

We had amazing luck while searching for a new dining set. We fell in love with a gorgeous espresso colored set from Crate and Barrel. Sadly, it was out of our price range. Several days later, while surfing on Craigslist I found the exact same set at a fraction of the cost! It was only a year old and about 70% cheaper than had we bought it new. Score!

My (most recent) luckiest home moment was walking into the foyer of my last home and asking for the offer paperwork. I think I made it three feet beyond the door and I just knew! That house was my joy for over 5 years until a job change took me to my next city. Still waiting for my next lucky moment, but I know it’ll happen.

Joss Me!! Our best find was our wood dresser for the nursery–$100 at a consignment shop, marked down from $279, and it came with a mirror we plan on selling on craigslist so it’ll make the total even lower. It is the peeeerfect piece–exactly what I was looking for and in great condition.

JOSS ME ! I live about 3.5 hours away from an IKEA store. I love IKEA so much that I sat outside for their grand opening in AZ. Well, I have been looking for a table and chairs for my twins… on a garage sale budget. I hadn’t been very lucky until about a month ago. My friend was at the Goodwill store in town. She found an IKEA table (red) and two chairs (one blue and one green) for a total of $13. I told her to buy it and bring it over !!! The extra bonus ?? My twins are color coded blue and green. So Sammy takes his blue sippy cup and sips in his blue chair while Jason sits in the green chair with his green sippy cup. (Yes I have blue and green plates, spoons and forks too. We used to have bottles and binkies but we are past that stage now.) Well that’s my find. We are renting and can’t do much with the apartment but I try.

Joss me! – we were driving around the area of homes we LOVE about a month ago, and spotted a portable moving container (pod) in front of the most beautiful house. Chatted with the owners and found they were listing the house the following week! Needless to say, we bought the house before it ever hit the market!!!! Yay!!!

My luckiest home improvement moment? That’s tough. Unlucky I can do… Oh, got it! This isn’t so much home improvement as acquiring the actual home. Our budget was tight, and after months of looking we found a home where the owner needed to sell fast. He lived out of state and wanted to use the money from selling this “extra home” to buy his newly married daughter a new home in their state. With homeless newlyweds keeping the clock ticking loudly, he sold us the house for $20,000 under the appraised value. Houses with similar floor plans in the same neighborhood were easily going for $15,000 more. Plus he was sweet and great to work with. We secretly referred to him as Ned Flanders.

JOSS Me…we stumbled across our house when we were going to an open house for another listing one street over. It had been on the market previously when we weren’t looking and they had just re-listed it when we accidently took that (right) wrong turn. Lucky for us, they also had significantly dropped the price. Yay us!
