    JOSS ME

The luckiest part about my home improvement is having a very handy dad who loves coming over to tinker around! He’s painted our garage, installed a new door, fixed just about anything that’s ever broken, repaired holes in the wall, painted a room and a stairwell… there’s nothing he can’t do!

Our luckiest move? A job transfer after just 8 months in our “forever home”… And a house selling after being on the market for one day – in a neighborhood with many foreclosures!

My luckiest moment was when I found a “vintage” (old, falling apart, discolored) table from a yard sale. The lady wanted to get rid of it asap so she ended up giving it to me for free if I just hauled it away. With the use of my nail gun, wood filler, glue, sandpaper and paint… I now have an awesome piece of furniture that everyone adores when they visit!!

JOSS ME! I have been lucky to find a few much needed items off craigslist. Such as a solid wood armoire now used as a bath linen closet for 50 bucks! I plan to paint it and retro fit the front doors with decorative metal grills. Somehow – someday. =)

JOSS ME! My luckiest home improvement happened when we first bought our house. We pulled up the nasty, nasty carpet to reveal pristine and beautiful hard wood floors. All we had to do was slap down a coat or two of poly and 10 years later they still look gorgeous!

Joss me! Luckiest moment ever looking for cabinet hardware and expecting to pa $3.50 per handle. When I got to the registered, they had been marked as discontinued and were only $0.01! The only stipulation was that I couldn’t return them. Really? Who would return $0.12 of cabinet handles and knobs! Very lucky!

Luckiest DIY moment was excavating our house’s original 1915 pocket doors from behind decades of paint and layers of caulk and they STILL had the original hardware :o) well worth the 4+ hours it took to free them from their caulk-y prison inside the walls

    JOSS MEE!!!

My seriously luckiest moment was when we cancelled the offer on our first house which was in short sale. It was about to go into foreclosure. It would be 30 days before we heard back from the bank on our offer.

We spotted the house that would later be our first house. It was bigger, the yard was bigger, the garage was bigger, it was just all around much more comfortable. AND it was seriously less money. It was a little older, but had much more character and felt so much more like it could be our home.

So lucky. That newer, tiny house, with a tiny yard, in that perfect neighborhood, really could have ended up being a miserable life for us.

I have great luck on Craigslist. When we moved 3,000 miles to Seattle, WA we had to buy a lot of new-to-us-furniture. That included a super sweet green couch from the 60’s, and amazing $30 coffee table from the 30’s (that college kid had no idea what he had), and a perfect desk with character-giving scratches and gnarls.
