One of my best scores was actually handed down to me from my dad. It’s this great side table that is made from the hatch door of a ship!

Our luckiest moment was that the first offer we put on a house took forever (shortsale), so we decide to pull our offer and look at other houses. We found the house of our dreams and it is a million times better that the first house! It is our first home and we LOVE it to pieces!! Sometimes things happen for a reason! :)

JOSS ME! my lucky finds are not the most glamourous thing usually, its when i find furniture in great condition for so little. Like how I paid 9 dollars for the 2 wrought-iron bar stools I loved at gardenridge bc thet were slightly wobbly. You can not even tell at all on carpet.

    — My most recent lucky moment was finding the perfect curtains for our den at HomeGoods, and they were the last two panels in the entire area! They didn’t even have the packaging anymore, and I had to have the guy take them off the display rods.

Joss me! My luckiest moment was when we realized the house we bought was advertised as forced-air when it actually had a huge old gravity furnace that was original to the (1958!) house. We got them to take off over a grand for a new furnace, and while we were replacing it we put in central air too!

JOSS ME! I feel incredibly lucky to have found an amaaaaazing 1970s orange velvet couch & chair set from a local Salvation Army a couple years ago. It might sound tacky to some, but the orange looks pretty awesome with teal accents, if I do say so myself :-)

The luckiest moment I have had was in the entire purchase of my house. I was looking at apartments to rent, and then decided it would be a better use of my money to buy a house. That same day,I looked at a couple of houses online that were in my price range. After work I went driving around looking at the houses I found online. I was really excited about this one particular house. It was the last one on the list. We drove by it and decided to knock on the door. It was a woman who I went to college with her husband! From then on everything was perfect. I bought the house and everything within 3 1/2 weeks! Everything fell perfectly into place and now I have my home sweet home! :)

    “JOSS ME!

One time in my life it paid to be short!!! A friend was trying to reach from car to car to hand me a check while we were stopped in the middle of the road. My arms were too short to reach, so we circled the block – and doing so we found the house I had always loved FOR SALE! We were the 2nd offer on the house and we had to wait almost two months to find out that we got it, but it was all worth it! We moved into a wallpaper covered house in 2002! I am still scraping wallpaper, but I love it!

I’m in the middle of my luckiest moment as we speak! We had our backyard landscaped a few months ago. The landscaper told us of a program in our town that will grant homeowners an “excused loan” for $10,000 to spruce up the outside of their home. A new driveway, new paths, new front door, new garage door and an outdoor seating area are in the works… and they didn’t cost us a thing (other than a 5 year commitment to not move).

My “jossiest” moment was when we found the fixer-upper of our dreams, went home to write a contract and our real estate agent told us she had a bad feeling about the house and would not write the paperwork until we had a preliminary house inspection. Well…turns out the house was stripped of copper wiring, and infested with (wait for it) rats AND snakes due to the fact it was so close to water. A few weeks later a perfect house (plus wires and minus pests) came on and we snatched it right up!

My greatest bit of luck was in finding an old wrought iron headboard on my favorite street in town. I also found a glass-base lamp on the same curb that I was able to clean up & repair. It looks just like it’s come from a pottery barn ad.

We were lucky to be able to afford our condo just months before real estate prices went crazy and it literally doubled in price.

In more recent news, I helped a friend install a closet system this weekend and her wardrobe slid under the bottom bar by half an inch. I couldn’t believe it, since any time something is half an inch off in construction, it’s always half an inch in the wrong direction!!
