Fab Freebie: What’s In A Name?

*** This giveaway is now closed – see who won below! ***

After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!

I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

    FABRIC ME!

I’m named after my great great great great great times a thousand great grandmother. She was the first Catherine, and it’s been used almost every generation ever since.

PS: The fabric in the bottom middle of the picture is currently hugging the seat of my office chair :) I love it!

My name was Julianna the entire 9 months that my mother carried me. My whole family referred to me as Julianna. However, the day I was born my dad went downstairs to get my mom a magazine from the gift shop and the front of the People magazine had an actress on it that had named her baby Brittany Morgan. My mom loved it so that she changed her mind immediately and changed my name. When the nurse labeled my crib/(plastic box they put babies in), my family kept telling the nurse it was the wrong baby and their baby’s name was Julianna… HAHA! My dad had to come out and straighten everything out! Quite an eventful day I would imagine. However, I have wished at times that my name was Julianna. I married an Italian and Brittany does flow as nicely with my last name! :)

My mom also proceeds to tell all other “Samantha”s that if they have brown hair, they are wrong, since Samantha was a blonde in the show… … … it made making friends in school REALLY fun…ha!

When I was born my mother was expecting a boy. She swore everyone who saw her pregnant told her she was having a boy.

She only picked out a boy’s name–Michael. Then she had a girl. They had no girl’s name picked and we had a friend of the family whose child had a stuffed Aunt Jemima kind of doll (it was the fifties, don’t judge) and her name was the name my mother picked. I have never forgiven her, lol.

My parents thought I was going to be a boy…it was just their intuition and they were wrong! I was born via c-section back when they still used general anesthesia so my mom was completely out of it and they hadn’t really decided on a girl name. But my dad decided my name should be Anika so he had everyone calling me that before my mom was even awake enough to realize she had a girl, not a boy! Good thing she liked it too!
