Fab Freebie: Talk About Home Improvement

*** This contest is no longer accepting entries – see who won below! ***

Random.org got his random on and selected our winner as… Tracey @ Tropical Happiness (who just moved into a new house last week so she has lots of shopping to do). Congrats! For everyone else, keep that chin up – you can still enter the Hometalk $500 Lowe’s gift card giveaway through Sunday.

You may already know that Hometalk is a community of home improvement experts (including some familiar HGTV faces) and fellower DIYers sharing home and garden projects, advice, and even contractors. And for this week’s giveaway they’re majorly hooking someone up… to the tune of a $500 gift card to Crate & Barrel!

HomeTalkGiveaway1

And as if that weren’t enough, over on their site they’re also giving away another 500 bucks (this time to Lowe’s). So to get in on that little bonus freebie, you can answer their quick poll question (about what outdoor summer project you still need to tackle – btw, our answer is C), sign up for a free account, and then cross your fingers really hard. Of course you can just enter for the Crate & Barrel gift card by commenting over here (or the Lowe’s card over there) so there’s no pressure to do both.

HomeTalkGiveaway2

  • PRIZE: A $500 gift card to Crate & Barrel courtesy of Hometalk
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “TALK TO ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … since Hometalk is polling folks about their summer projects, let’s cover your fall & winter plans here. What’s on your to-tackle list later this year? Maybe updating your fireplace just in time for cooler weather? Or redoing your bedroom for those cold winter nights? Or are you just itching to decorate for Halloween and Christmas already?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, August 17th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday morning for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Hometalk.

We’re in the middle of finishing up a new nursery for our first baby, a girl due Oct. 1. We also hope to paint our front door a fun color and replace our kitchen sink sometime soon.

I finally feel like we have the base items we need in our house, so I’m looking forward to filling in the details this fall/winter. I’m thinking mirrors, framed art, rugs, lamps and possibly some sort of gallery wall. I can’t wait!

    Talk to Me!!

This fall I want to create a patio and give our back yard some TLC. We landscaped the front yard this spring but the back is still not much to look at. I was thinking some comfy seating and a firepit for the cool fall nights.

Plans for this fall/winter include finding a cozy rug for the living room (need to keep my feet warm during these Minnesota winters!), a sideboard for the dining room and a headboard for the bedroom. Slowly turning my rented duplex into home sweet home :)

This fall I am planning to build a storage bench in our mudroom. I was inspired by you guys to do this! Usually I leave this kind of stuff to my husband, but I feel pretty confident that I can do it all by myself. In addition to this, the hubs and I decided for Christmas we are doing no store bought gifts for each other (the baby gets all our money now!) so we have to make the gift. And the only stipulation is that it has to be something that we need. I cannot leave the details of that in case he reads this, but it will definitely be a house project!

    TALK TO ME!

We just moved to a new home in April, so our project list is long. Just a few:

    1) stink-bug proof before they start coming in for the winter . . need to screen the oven vent and do the best to close other points of entry
    2) finish built-in desks in office and paint that room
    3) locate affordable furniture for guest bedroom
    4) create some sort of sound-proofing around the water pump in basement
    and plenty more

My ‘dream list’: redo laundry room (remove nasty storage thing left by previous owners, get new appliances that stack), redo kitchen with fabulous countertop material, additional counterspace, tear up generic (but nice) beige tile and replace with enormous chocolate brown tiles.

Actual list: If I’m very lucky, we’ll be able to rent scaffolding to paint the walls in the great room. I’m gonna be painting for DAYS. Also finish many tiny projects: find rug for living, find art solution for playroom, etc.

Projects? They never end; where do I begin? Throughout the house I need (read: want) hardwood flooring, updated baseboards and paint, new windows and window treatments and, speaking of fireplaces, gotta get rid of that 90s brass trim and come up with a funky contemporary floating mantel. Hmmmmmmm … while the Crate & Barrel gift card would be MOST welcomed (love me some C&B action!), I think I’d better head over to Hometalk and put my name in the mix for the one from Lowe’s, too!!
