Fab Freebie: Talk About Home Improvement

*** This contest is no longer accepting entries – see who won below! ***

Random.org got his random on and selected our winner as… Tracey @ Tropical Happiness (who just moved into a new house last week so she has lots of shopping to do). Congrats! For everyone else, keep that chin up – you can still enter the Hometalk $500 Lowe’s gift card giveaway through Sunday.

You may already know that Hometalk is a community of home improvement experts (including some familiar HGTV faces) and fellower DIYers sharing home and garden projects, advice, and even contractors. And for this week’s giveaway they’re majorly hooking someone up… to the tune of a $500 gift card to Crate & Barrel!

HomeTalkGiveaway1

And as if that weren’t enough, over on their site they’re also giving away another 500 bucks (this time to Lowe’s). So to get in on that little bonus freebie, you can answer their quick poll question (about what outdoor summer project you still need to tackle – btw, our answer is C), sign up for a free account, and then cross your fingers really hard. Of course you can just enter for the Crate & Barrel gift card by commenting over here (or the Lowe’s card over there) so there’s no pressure to do both.

HomeTalkGiveaway2

  • PRIZE: A $500 gift card to Crate & Barrel courtesy of Hometalk
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “TALK TO ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … since Hometalk is polling folks about their summer projects, let’s cover your fall & winter plans here. What’s on your to-tackle list later this year? Maybe updating your fireplace just in time for cooler weather? Or redoing your bedroom for those cold winter nights? Or are you just itching to decorate for Halloween and Christmas already?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, August 17th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday morning for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Hometalk.

We bought our first home this summer, so we have about a million little things to tackle…not to mention a list of big things. Windows, bathroom(s), kitchen…painting doesn’t even make the list right now!

TALK TO ME…There are so many house projects we want to complete, but out biggest is probably redoing our basement. We were hit with some flooding and had to tear our entire basement apart due to water damage and mold.

    TALK TO ME!

being that we’ve lived in our house for only 1 year after getting married last year, we’ve got lots on our list, but definitely #1 and #2 are to put tile in our kitchen (it’s currently a mix between real wood and vinyl due to water damage we had in the past) and landscaping our backyard, which is just a flat rectangle of dirt and a concrete slab currently…plus weeds that keep growing and growing. :(

    TALK TO ME!
We bought a new house and just moved in this past May. We immedately removed the above-ground pool so now we have a 25ft sandbox in our backyard! We are planning on laying a patio down that includes a fire pit as well as some large granite steps/retaining wall. We scored 13 HUGE granite blocks for FREE and now we just need to plan out the placement – and figure out how we’re going to move those suckers from the driveway to the soon-to-be patio area! These blocks range from 40-90inches and are about 12inches thick! (Hopefully before the cold New England weather creeps up on us!)

Our summer home improvement projects include laying the foundation for our addition (which is almost done), and then lots of planning. Since we can’t open up our walls and rip off the roof leading into a New England winter, we’ll have to wait until next spring to finish it up. In the mean time we’re planning out the layout of the house including a stone chimney with granite from our yard we excavated that will make up a corner (i.e. two partial walls) in the middle of the house, which is somewhat open concept (er, will be). It’s going to be fabbbuulous.

    “TALK TO ME!”

We have lots of projects to get to yet. We need to do some painting on our porch, and we need to have some windows fixed, but the project I’m most excited about is a bedroom transformation. Carpet up, widen the closet door, bring in a wardrobe, make a functional window seat & rearrange (we are also rearranging fans!!!) Can’t wait to get going on that!

What projects don’t we have! Tonight I will be painting the dining room. . .last night it was the kitchen. Next weekend we’re putting in new bulkhead doors for our basement. We need to stain our new front porch (if it will stop raining for 24 hours) and build a new side porch. We are also building some new cabinets in our kitchen and a new dresser for our bedroom. As I write this list, I realize it’s a very ambitious list!
