Fab Freebie: Talk About Home Improvement

*** This contest is no longer accepting entries – see who won below! ***

Random.org got his random on and selected our winner as… Tracey @ Tropical Happiness (who just moved into a new house last week so she has lots of shopping to do). Congrats! For everyone else, keep that chin up – you can still enter the Hometalk $500 Lowe’s gift card giveaway through Sunday.

You may already know that Hometalk is a community of home improvement experts (including some familiar HGTV faces) and fellower DIYers sharing home and garden projects, advice, and even contractors. And for this week’s giveaway they’re majorly hooking someone up… to the tune of a $500 gift card to Crate & Barrel!

HomeTalkGiveaway1

And as if that weren’t enough, over on their site they’re also giving away another 500 bucks (this time to Lowe’s). So to get in on that little bonus freebie, you can answer their quick poll question (about what outdoor summer project you still need to tackle – btw, our answer is C), sign up for a free account, and then cross your fingers really hard. Of course you can just enter for the Crate & Barrel gift card by commenting over here (or the Lowe’s card over there) so there’s no pressure to do both.

HomeTalkGiveaway2

  • PRIZE: A $500 gift card to Crate & Barrel courtesy of Hometalk
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “TALK TO ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … since Hometalk is polling folks about their summer projects, let’s cover your fall & winter plans here. What’s on your to-tackle list later this year? Maybe updating your fireplace just in time for cooler weather? Or redoing your bedroom for those cold winter nights? Or are you just itching to decorate for Halloween and Christmas already?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, August 17th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday morning for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Hometalk.

I would absolutely love to redecorate my new apartment with my fiancee. I’m a med student who lives off of student loans, so everything is a bit bare right now, but I could do so much with that gift card!

We’re buying a new-to-us camp this month, which comes w/ a multitude of fun, not-as-fun, + really-truly-not-fun projects. Excited nonetheless, + looking forward to future inspiration from your multitude of projects. :)

I’m renting an apartment, so there’s only so much structural stuff I can update, but I’m hoping to whip up a few projects, including curtains and refinishing a table in the future before the end of 2011. Vague, I know.

We really need to paint our basement family room. We always plan to paint in the cooler weather so thing can air out with the windows open. We’re hoping to use some No VOC paint that will change our minds about that, but we are skeptical.

Hmm I guess I’ll try to be sure and seal our apartment better this winter – last year I never got around to adding that ugly but oh-so-important layer of plastic to our pretty single-pane window. Our potted Christmas tree from last year is all but dead, so maybe this year we’ll go for a cut tree (already dead, so no extra guilt). Luckily there is still time to plan!

TALK TO ME! My husband and I are looking to buy our first house in the next two months, so we’re going to have a list a mile long! But I think our big fall task will be researching what fruit trees we want in the back yard and seeing when they need to be planted. Gotta start those early to get the rewards!

We are finally going to tackle the exterior of our house this late summer/early fall….either taking all the asbestos siding off and scraping all the lead paint off the original wood siding OR just cleaning and replacing some of the asbestos siding and painting over it. Oh ya, then we will be building some new tapered columns for our front porch.
