Fab Freebie: Sunny Side Up

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries.***

If you’re a Richmonder, you might’ve already deciphered that the Sunny mentioned in this morning’s Reader Redesign is none other than local paint heroine Sunny Goode. Heck, even non-locals with a good memory might have picked up on it since Sunny’s name has popped up more than once on YHL, like when we house crashed this Domino-featured home that sported Sunny’s signature stenciled paint treatment on her floors:

Sunny Give Katie Floor

Or when we dropped in on her store, Sunny’s Goodtime Paints, a couple of years ago:

Sunny Give Store 2

Sunny Give Store

Plus we even got to sneak a peek of one of her newest creations: the floor at the soon-to-be open children’s consignment boutique called Clover located in Richmond’s Carytown district. Sidenote: we’ll be showcasing even more inspiration from this stunning shop soon because it’s chock full of awesome (and doable!) ideas.

Sunny Give Clover Floor

But in case you’re still in the dark about just how talented and inspiring Sunny is, allow us to shine a little light on the subject. Sunny serves up a boatload of tools and inspiration to make your next paint job work a little harder when it comes to creating a more unique, playful, personal, and beautiful space. We know her best for her stencils, color washes, and stains- which can bring some much-needed pattern to a blank floor or wall. But she’s also got monograms, decals, and even two books (Paint Can! and its kid-tastic sidekick).

Sunny Give Product Four

So because Sunny has so much fun stuff to dish out, we’re excited to announce that TWO lucky winners will score an $100 shopping spree. So you have the chance to snag whatever goodies catch your eye on her site the most! And the rest of you will be able to cash in on a pretty sweet discount too (stay tuned for those details on Thurs). But enough jibber-jabber. Here are all the deets:

  • PRIZE: $100 towards anything from Sunny’s Goodtime Paints
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHINE ON ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … help us get the creative painting juices flowing and share your favorite use of paint (whether it’s something you’ve done or just something you’ve seen). Is it a surprisingly stellar color combo? An object that was totally transformed by a few brushstrokes? Or perhaps a painted pattern or stencil that really make the room?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 21st at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

    SHINE ON ME!

I love how color can totally transform a space. My current project is to paint some beautiful crisp white on the glossy 80’s wainscotting in my family room. I’m still in the process of sanding – can’t wait to see how it turns out!

I will always be amazed at how paint is such an economic way to perform a full makeover; from transforming old furniture to just adding a needed POP to a room!

Shine on me! True story– I once took a break from drying out our flooded basement (while it was still raining)because I had found a local source for Sunny’s color wash and I was determined to go get it so I could start a project in our house. My husband thought it was totally frivolous and crazy, but it worked out well because I happened to meet the one available local handyman with a shopvac and persuaded him to come back to our house with it. Two problems solved! Oh, and the color wash looked great.

    SHINE ON ME!!!

I found the perfect gray that is bold and clean! It is a true gray that is not greenish, bluish, purplish or any other hue. I painted my master bedroom Gray Matters by Sherwin Williams! I used white trim and black furniture. It is masculine enough for my hubby and crisp enough for me to get away with adding colorful details, changing them out as often as I like to completely change the look of the room!

I am always impressed with how people can use stencils to look like wallpaper designs. I have always thought that to be the perfect solution (so you don’t have to worry about removal one day when you are tired of it!).

When we first moved into our house, we didnt have much money to decorate. I wanted to give the room an extra something special without breaking the bank. I painted our master bedroom a beautiful cream color. Then I cut a square out on a peice of posterboard, and used copper spray paint and randomly sprayed squares all over the room. The effect was a beautiful shimmery room with pizzaz!

SHINE ON ME! I had a hideous ikea dresser that didnt match anything in my house, so i painted it a bright-kellyish green – eco green if you will – and now it really pops! then i painted a stencil of a branch/vines with birds on it in white on teh front, along with replacing the knobs to little branch hardware, it came out super cute!

SHINE ON ME! Me and paint are thisclose. No white walls in our house. Our colors range from girly pink Parisain, to whimsical yellow and green butterfly garden to calming coastal inspired in our master. I also have a collection of spray paint to rival any hardware store, lol. I’ve stenciled and done all sorts of faux finishes back in the day. I’ve also transformed a few pieces of furniture. My favorite current project is painting our front door a bright poppy red. It just adds such a lively pop of color to our otherwise boring grey exterior. If I had the time, I’d paint all of our honey oak trim and cabinets and crisp clean white.

Shine on me! My DH and I are moving into a new(very old) house next week and are in desperate need of paint!

I saw a picture in Martha Stewart where a faux bois treatment was applied to a wall. It was in subtle tones of gray, under a chair rail in a dining room. I’m dying to try it.
