Fab Freebie: Sunny Side Up

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries.***

If you’re a Richmonder, you might’ve already deciphered that the Sunny mentioned in this morning’s Reader Redesign is none other than local paint heroine Sunny Goode. Heck, even non-locals with a good memory might have picked up on it since Sunny’s name has popped up more than once on YHL, like when we house crashed this Domino-featured home that sported Sunny’s signature stenciled paint treatment on her floors:

Sunny Give Katie Floor

Or when we dropped in on her store, Sunny’s Goodtime Paints, a couple of years ago:

Sunny Give Store 2

Sunny Give Store

Plus we even got to sneak a peek of one of her newest creations: the floor at the soon-to-be open children’s consignment boutique called Clover located in Richmond’s Carytown district. Sidenote: we’ll be showcasing even more inspiration from this stunning shop soon because it’s chock full of awesome (and doable!) ideas.

Sunny Give Clover Floor

But in case you’re still in the dark about just how talented and inspiring Sunny is, allow us to shine a little light on the subject. Sunny serves up a boatload of tools and inspiration to make your next paint job work a little harder when it comes to creating a more unique, playful, personal, and beautiful space. We know her best for her stencils, color washes, and stains- which can bring some much-needed pattern to a blank floor or wall. But she’s also got monograms, decals, and even two books (Paint Can! and its kid-tastic sidekick).

Sunny Give Product Four

So because Sunny has so much fun stuff to dish out, we’re excited to announce that TWO lucky winners will score an $100 shopping spree. So you have the chance to snag whatever goodies catch your eye on her site the most! And the rest of you will be able to cash in on a pretty sweet discount too (stay tuned for those details on Thurs). But enough jibber-jabber. Here are all the deets:

  • PRIZE: $100 towards anything from Sunny’s Goodtime Paints
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHINE ON ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … help us get the creative painting juices flowing and share your favorite use of paint (whether it’s something you’ve done or just something you’ve seen). Is it a surprisingly stellar color combo? An object that was totally transformed by a few brushstrokes? Or perhaps a painted pattern or stencil that really make the room?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 21st at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

    SHINE ON ME….

I bought my first house last year. I’m still in the process of painting all of the walls. I recently spray painted a brass lamp & some old mirrors black. Love the new look.

SHINE ON ME! I never have my own ideas— I’m not creative like that but I sure can copy great paint ideas. I love to paint frames in surprising colors so that they pop off the wall.

SHINE ON ME- I have this idea to do an overlapping squares pattern in my bathroom, but I’d also like to do a trellis design – I just haven’t done it yet. I would love to have the inspiration and a Benjamin to go with it. Thanks!

My favorite use of paint lately has been an accent wall. My last apartment had a gorgeous deep orange wall in the bedroom. And this new place is begging for a frosted plum wall, also in the bedroom.

The most creative painting in our house is our girl’s bedroom… They each picked a color from the oops paint at Home Depot and we did alternating colors on the wall. It ended up teal and lavender, which went together much better than I thought it would… I painted a border of flowers using a stencil to tie it together.

I love varying shades of the same color -as accents. And actually as a kid I used to paint glass bottles..leave them on a window sil and let the sun create the “art” ;)

Shine on me! I am a big believer in paint. I painted my laundry wall (which is part of the kicthen) a vibrant red, added a dutch door for some light in that dark corner and some crisp white wainscoting, and now the whole kitchen shines and pops with that one wall. It really transformed the whole space, making a huge impact since it is visible when you walk in the front door (our house is teeny tiny for a 2 bed/2 bath with 828 sq feet!).

At the start of high school, I convinced my parents to let me sponge paint my bedroom. It was actually pretty horrible and when I came back one summer from college my dad and I repainted and had to sand all the sponge marks down. I don’t think I’ll try that again.

I have several painting projects lined up for me to do. I love painting and the way it completely transforms a space. Painting furniture is my favorite, and I love using bold, whimsical colors to brighten up a space. On my list, are a vintage trunk, and adorable little vintage table and cute chair (from the side of the road), and another table! Love, love, love paint!!

Shine on me! My favorite use of paint is to cover up the hideously bright pink walls in FOUR of the rooms in my new house…two down, and two to go! And I really want to repaint the main bathroom floor (hopefully with some stencil designs!). The previous owners painted it navy blue (flat paint) and then painted the bathroom with bright pink flat paint and splattered the leftovers all over the floor, bathtub, molding, and sink. It’s really, really painful to look at. Here’s to hoping I win (and can fix the awful floor asap)!
