Fab Freebie: Sunny Side Up

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries.***

If you’re a Richmonder, you might’ve already deciphered that the Sunny mentioned in this morning’s Reader Redesign is none other than local paint heroine Sunny Goode. Heck, even non-locals with a good memory might have picked up on it since Sunny’s name has popped up more than once on YHL, like when we house crashed this Domino-featured home that sported Sunny’s signature stenciled paint treatment on her floors:

Sunny Give Katie Floor

Or when we dropped in on her store, Sunny’s Goodtime Paints, a couple of years ago:

Sunny Give Store 2

Sunny Give Store

Plus we even got to sneak a peek of one of her newest creations: the floor at the soon-to-be open children’s consignment boutique called Clover located in Richmond’s Carytown district. Sidenote: we’ll be showcasing even more inspiration from this stunning shop soon because it’s chock full of awesome (and doable!) ideas.

Sunny Give Clover Floor

But in case you’re still in the dark about just how talented and inspiring Sunny is, allow us to shine a little light on the subject. Sunny serves up a boatload of tools and inspiration to make your next paint job work a little harder when it comes to creating a more unique, playful, personal, and beautiful space. We know her best for her stencils, color washes, and stains- which can bring some much-needed pattern to a blank floor or wall. But she’s also got monograms, decals, and even two books (Paint Can! and its kid-tastic sidekick).

Sunny Give Product Four

So because Sunny has so much fun stuff to dish out, we’re excited to announce that TWO lucky winners will score an $100 shopping spree. So you have the chance to snag whatever goodies catch your eye on her site the most! And the rest of you will be able to cash in on a pretty sweet discount too (stay tuned for those details on Thurs). But enough jibber-jabber. Here are all the deets:

  • PRIZE: $100 towards anything from Sunny’s Goodtime Paints
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHINE ON ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … help us get the creative painting juices flowing and share your favorite use of paint (whether it’s something you’ve done or just something you’ve seen). Is it a surprisingly stellar color combo? An object that was totally transformed by a few brushstrokes? Or perhaps a painted pattern or stencil that really make the room?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 21st at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

SHINE ON ME!!!! The most fun for me is painting things for my daughter’s room — I’ve painted letters for her name, wooden hooks, picture frames, and wooden animals and flowers that hold her hair bows.

Shine on me!! I have a coffee table refurb in the wings that I plan on stenciling so this would be perfect timing. Which leads me to my favorite use of paint. I love taking a granny piece of furniture and making it fabulous with fresh paint and new knobs. Works every time!

My favorite, and simple, use of paint is to paint the pegboard tool holder in our garage. It started as dark brown, but I painted it a deep red to add a bit of finish and pop to the garage.

I have an old dresser in the master bath that needs a total re-do; I’ve thought paint, a stencil and the Pour On that Sunny uses would be absolute perfection; you’ve inspired me to get off the laptop (except for your and Sunny’s blog) and get too it!

I love to paint and love how transformative it can be. I’m about to move into a place with an awful painted brick fireplace (they actually freehanded painting the grout black, crookedly) and I cannot WAIT to get in there and cover it up with a delicious color. So hopefully that’ll be my most inspiring paint project, because it’s the focal point of the room.

I love to find things at garage sales and give them a fresh coat a paint and transform them. Our most recent project is painting an old stereo cabinet which we are going to use as a changing table. Its almost done, so I’ll send photos when we finish.

Painted my formica countertops to resemble cherry blossom marble…people who walk in my kitchen are stunned at how beautiful it is, and they can’t get over that it is only paint and water-based poly. Cost me less than $50.

I saw the most incredible BM bedroom using Violette and leaf stencils in golds, silvers, greys, and whites. I am determined to to recreate this somewhere in my house.

    Paint is good. :-)

I love it when bookscases/ cabinents are painted on the inside with a happy color. It adds nice contrast to the items inside and in the case of a cabinent can be a happy surprise when you open the door.

The boldest paint project that I have ever taken on was when I bought five 12×12 canvases and painted them different colors with different geometric designs for my daughter’s room. We leaned the canvases different directions on the walls and at different heights to make it look all funky.

I really like unexpected pairings with paint. Although on the smallish side, our living room is painted a saturated teally-green hue, which, when paired with our yellow, light mocha, chocolate, black, and white items in the room, really adds depth. We painted the flea-market mid-century “telephone table” turned side table in our room a saturated and milky perriwinkle, which pops against the deep browns and plums we’ve used.

My favorite paint project was painting our nursery (well, I didn’t get to paint, but my husband and father-in-law did!) for our son who is due in November this year.

We chose a celery green shade, and it has transformed the drab look of the room completely! Love it!
